Personally this might be a good time for twilight to trust her students who saved the world from Cozy. Most of them aren't ponies so they will have a better chance than the ponies who behaved badly and if that's how Luna handles liking someone then I hate to see how wonderfully her enemies get treated. Thrown in a dungeon for being different. And they have soldiers who are lousy in an emergency but if war came they would be fighting like any other soldier.
