You state that Zex would like to breed with his mother Queen Chrysalis, although he is sterilized as unworthy of breeding. ¿does he lie to Sweetie Belle and Clony about his desires? or ¿to himself? His going on about incest as an abomination reminds be about the preachers and Republicans raging against homosexuality always turning out to be homosexuals:
¡The lady doth protest too much, methinks! —— Queen Gertrude
9632339 One of the headcanons out there is that all Changelings originate from Chrysalis. In this story, I think, this headcanon is not implemented. Changelings have different genders (that's shown in canon as well). They procreate with each other and for all we know Chrysalis might not even be procreating.
Colonies of naked molerats have 1 queen, but any female can become queen if she dies. All of the adult males can breed. The males have wanderlust and try to leave their natal colonies and join new 1s.
9632429 There is no correlation between the quality of genes and being a traitor. It's just a coincidence.
To be honest, I find it quite unlikely that Queen Chrysalis could supply all the changelings unless they have long life spans. It kind of makes more sense if the changelings can also reproduce with each other. That makes the genetic goals easier to achieve, as well.
This novel also mentions that they wanted to impregnate Luna, which also goes against the headcanon that Chrysalis is the mother of all changelings.
The canon says that Queen Chrysalis has been a queen for a millennium, and the novel is fine with that. Primarily, she's a ruler, not a womb.
How can this be a sequel when the 1st wasn't even finished. that was my first thought until I read more in the description and found out it was a spinoff story. so no problem there.
I gotta tell ya, you wouldn't believe how many times I come crossed a story that is a sequel, only to found out the first story wasn't even finished. I really don't know why authors do that at times.
9632590 I'd do it within the same novel if it wasn't for the rating. I didn't want to mark Everyone rated story as Mature just because of a few romantic chapters. Publishing these chapters as a separate story was the only way to keep my novel Everyone rated.
I'm also doing it like this because it's chronological. These chapters take place before the main story ends. When these romantic chapters end, I will continue the main story.
And another thing, these chapters don't play a role on the main story, so you can also just skip them if you don't like mature content. Oh, what am I saying... Everypony loves mature content.
As for authors writing stories without finishing the previous one, I kind of know why that comes about. At one point, I was writing 12 stories in parallel. It's much easier to write something you're passionate about and the newest ideas peek one's interests the most. Fresh is always more interesting than stale. Also, with old ideas, you're usually left with parts that are hard to write. It can sometimes take months before the author figures out a way to write himself out of the corner. You don't get that right away with the new stories.
But yes, I can see why these things could be viewed as confusing from the reader's perspective.
9632612 Well, when you put it that way, I suppose I could understand where you're coming from. Each author's method in writing stories is different from one another.
I for one was always beening told to keep the stories in order from one another if you're doing a trilogy or saga. Side Stories and Spinoffs, are the exceptions to the rule.
Not to mention my former literature and writing teacher was a real hard ass about it. Yet the most ironic thing is the fact I still relied on a digital dictionary or Google voice search to help me spelled certain words along with using grammar and spell check programs to make I typed the chapter right.
9632709 There's a reason why it took me so long to start publishing the chapters. I was writing all of them in parallel, connecting them with one another. Before I finished the first 10 chapters, I was already writing chapter 42 because I had a clear idea for it.
That's kind of how I see the world in RL as well. People distinguish the past, present and future from one another. I don't. I see time just as another component on the graph. Just another variable. When I look at events in the future, its the same for me as looking at the events in the past or the present.
With stories, I often start them in the middle, then finish the ending. It's actually the beginning that I struggle the most and leave them for last.
In the stories themselves, however, I try to keep things in chronological order. I don't even do flashbacks just for that reason. Writing is confusing to the reader as it is, even without me playing chronomancy.
9632817 OK, first off thanks very kindly for the links, they're come in handy. Now that I can understand and for me, if I ever get around to finally writing my story which already planned as a saga series including side stories and spinoffs.
I'm just going to take it slow and take my time writing it and work how the plot goes and wait until I have at least 12 long chapters done, something that is more suited for those who don't mind heavy reading. Especially if they the read books like Lord of the Rings or The Last Unicorn.
For now I'm just coming up with source materials and putting all of it together in a sort of bible or handbook or whatever you call it, to act as reference.
Once I'm done, I'm going to put a writing team together to help work on this story and put all together in a way that make sense and not convoluted to the readers.
Though, if I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't start big like I did (my first story was this novel). At the start, you don't see the traps. You keep making the same mistakes and you don't even notice it. After some time, you have tens of thousands of pages to rewrite because you did it wrong.
It really helps to write a few one-shots first. It doesn't take much time, but you learn a lot. It's hard because these postpone the main story you're most passionate about, but in reality, they speed it up because you learn so much.
Also, I used to think that epic means good. It doesn't. Stories are like planes. While it is true, that the most awesome planes are usually the most epic ones, you don't build an epic plane by putting weights on a model plane. You should be trying to do the exact opposite. Build a plane as light as you can. Make a story as short as you can. Ask yourself, would it be possible to tell the same message with a one-shot instead of an epic? If yes, make a one-shot. You can still make an epic at a later date.
Oh, and another thing, this novel will have like 50 chapters. In the same time, I could have written 50 one-shots which would all get more views than this one story. People hate long stories. They have 10 minutes to waste and they don't have time to immerse themselves into your epic world. People want a quick fix.
If you publish an epic you'll see it for yourself. After a dozen chapters, you'll see that you're actually only writing for a handful of readers because everypony else got tired along the long path.
And another thing. An epic can take years of your life away. You only have 80 or so years. Are you really willing to make such a sacrifice? Would you be willing to die 3 years earlier in an exchange for a fully written book? Is one book worth years of your life? Do you really have nothing better to do in life? You should ask yourself these questions now, before it's too late.
I’m questioning just what this is now. I vaguely remember it being about sweetie belle being evil now or something. But now it’s about sexually torturing a sweetie clone? I’m a bit confused?
Every novel needs a romantic scene, right? Well, Sweetie Belle is just a filly. The only way we could get a romantic scene from her would be if she was raped.
Anyways, Sweetie Belle is 'growing' as a character in this epic saga. This spin-off demonstrates just how low she has fallen from innocence.
She's getting ready to fight the world, but that might not be her biggest enemy.
9633021 Hmm...very interesting points, friend. What you said is true writing an epic is quite a life consuming task and i am perhaps catering towards small minority in this day and age.
But I already made up my mind on doing a epic story when I was a 10 year kid and that desire has yet to leave me. Because in the end my life is for the story and the audience. I'm willing to trade my happiness to bring happiness for someone else or to inspire a young and growing mind.
However, I intend to publish a series of light novels (the alternative to manga) with some illustrations that pay homage to the art style of 90s anime.
Not everything is as bleak as I painted. To be honest, now that I've written a novel, I'm of proud of it. Outside of the system (school, job, society), it's the main thing I have to show for myself. It's proof that I exist. It's a mark in the world. If nothing else, this I achieved, and nopony will ever be able to take this away from me. Even if my brain fails me one day, the novel will remain as a testimony to what I once was; what I was capable of. And for those who look carefully, they will find pieces of my soul within the pages.
I'm glad to find another who has the same drive and passion for literature and the art of it. For me, this story will be my legacy I will leave behind for generations and hopefully spark the imagination of some young author or entertain the audience.
9633293 You remind me of how I was 5 years ago. I envy you.
Cherish the spark within you. The flames that keep it lit are not self-evident. Just like the spark can come from nowhere, it can also get lost in the void.
9633085 Ahhhhh I see. Btw, thanks for actually responding. Don’t see a lot of that these days. Apparently you’re very active if your user page has anything to say. I read all of Sweetie belle gains a soul. I think it’s a pretty good read. Lots of it got better and better. I don’t remember an end however and I’m now going to assume that it’s still something you’re working on (maybe) and that this is a spin off that we don’t have to read to get the main plot right? That’s where my main confusion stems from.
9635998 The fandom is dying little by little. People are moving on.
What makes you say that I'm very active? How can you determine that from a user page?
I was a noob when I started to write Sweetie Belle Gains a Soul. It was actually my first fanfiction. I'm glad to hear that the improvement shows.
You probably don't remember the end of the novel because it isn't published yet. I'm publishing the chapters of this spin-off first because that's how the story goes chronologically. 9636366 I see. I can see just how active you are from your user page because you post there very often. Just look at the most recent conversation you had in the chat. Your hella more active then other writers that post and dissapear on this fan base. I’m glad you still exist and haven’t run off the face of the planet. At one point I thought that my taste in story depended on how many years it hadn’t been updated in. With some fics, like this one, I realize that the fan base isn’t completely dead.
”So you wouldn't touch a story if it hasn't been updated in a long time?
Personally, I'd have my doubts if I saw a story that gets updated every day. I need like a month to get a chapter in order.”
You misunderstood. I would only read the ones that were old and discontinued. And the worst part is that I never did it on purpose. I’ve alwas liked longer stories so I read things that are 60k words and above on this platform. The problem I’ve encountered is that 60k+ words is prime realistate for discontinued story on hiatus. I was just personally surprised when I saw that you weren’t dead as a writer despite having 60k+ words in your story. There are very few fics that continue after the 100k threshold is hit. The ones that do are the real fics. Ones that have been give enough thought to make them so good that you get payed to make fanfics.
Tl;dr of this, I like long stories and most long stories are dead. You have a long story, I read and you’re still active.
Well, it depends on how good it is. For example, look at “Rites of ascension”. They get paid like 200 a month to write as good as they do. So like GoT, they get graded on just how good they write. If it’s not up to par, you’re goin to see real negative criticism. On a plus, their storyline and plot points are some real shit. I feel that as determined as you are to write well, you can make a pretty decent story.
Btw, I’ve never liked one shots. They have no build up or execution to their plots. I NEED world building. I NEED character development. I NEED a good plot for the story that isn’t “I’m a good guy so I’m good.” “Well I’m the bad guy so I’m bad.”
9638764 Well, never say never, I guess. Who knows what opportunities lie in the future.
In part, I'm glad I wrote this novel. I could never be proud of a one-shot as I can be of a novel. Also, now I know that I can do it. Without actually doing it, there would always be a hint of doubt in the back of my head.
At least now I can say, "Been there, done her that."
9638786 At least you have the conviction to get to write this far. When I wrote one of these (not in this fandom mind you), I got to about 50k words and I thought it was good. The comments however were negative and thus discouraged me from continuing to write. I’ve gotten 2 since asking me to write more but now I view my own story as bad. I think it needs an overhaul. But YOURS on the other hand was written quite well and I can only wait patiently for more. Rushing it will only lead to plot holes and bad writing in a fic so continue at your own pace. Good luck to you

Okay. It is ironic that the traitor Thorax has good genes and can imitate inanimate objects such as rocks.
Maybe, changelings are like Naked MoleRats:
Colonies of naked molerats have 1 queen, but any female can become queen if she dies. All of the adult males can breed. The males have wanderlust and try to leave their natal colonies and join new 1s.

In part, I'm glad I wrote this novel. I could never be proud of a one-shot as I can be of a novel. Also, now I know that I can do it. Without actually doing it, there would always be a hint of doubt in the back of my head.
At least now I can say, "Been there, done

At least you have the conviction to get to write this far.
