Now that you mention it... Honestly I haven't thought about that aspect, it was more coming from the fact that all Dragons have a liking for fire, which Kirin-Fluffy has a lot of, and what does run in the family is the liking for fluffiness on the males side, that combined caused his father to approve that much. Though, the interspecies interest as you call it seems to run in the family too to a degree:derpytongue2:

For Fiery primary, he knows it can't go on with Fluffies family as it is. Therefore, he must do something and since they more or less told they are willing to show good will and want him to feel as part of the family as well, he do the dragon thing and ' claims' them. Think of it like treasure, it is no longer only Fluffies family, now it is his to a degree too.
