Uh...Mindbender is a Marty stu, which makes him a weak character in general. Also, I get that the characters were undergoing emotion turmoil, but they were still very off. Lastly, was this a satire?
Okay, the 'wtf' is strong with this one. Now, if an incorrect thought actually was that destructive, I can understand the measures taken. I do not judge said measures as unreasonable, or even inhumane. I do however find the idea that a lethal meme caused by taking a guess at the meaning of somepony's existence could cause such events to lead to a problem. The deaths involved once it was spawned are unfortunate, and the measure of eliminating all carriers a necessary thing. However, without any kind of explanation for the source of this phenomena, much less its empathic link spread, I find it hard to condone the magnitude of the horror. I do like that you avoided even hinting at what the guess's are 'Nothing Could Be Scarier' well applied here. That this 'thought' is clearly a magical phenomenon is at least made explicit at the end, but I feel as if I have watched an episode of the twilight zone's first season, when there was no narration to frame the events. It is a fine example of how dangerous a mimetic threat is in a (effectively) telepathic society however, so I will give your credit there.
Please, provide some framing material next time to contextualize this kind of thing.

Well, I actually found this story to be more pretentious than confusing. Here's what I got out of it:
Mindbender is a sophisticated psycho who killed as many ponies as possible. He used his mindbending powers to manipulate Rarity into killing Twilight, Big Mac into killing Pinkie, and Fluttershy into believing the way he did. He claims to be a saint, trying to convince the reader that somepony making "an incorrect guess" of the meaning of life is a plausible reason to murder several ponies (some indirectly), and turn a whole community against each other in the process. I think ol' Mindbender must've bended his own mind a bit too hard, eh?
