Pun System

All things in balance.

E

When the Crystal Empire was banished, the few crystal ponies who found themselves outside its borders were left behind. Such was the case for Lapis Lazuli and Fluorite. Losing everything would be reason enough to give into despair, but can a mysterious visitor help them find a new way to celebrate Hearth's Warming?

Lovely short read from start to finish. Good descriptions, heartwarming (and heartwrenching) atmosphere, Celestia being spot on, and a piece of Equestrian history I have never seen more elaborated on. I’m surprised such a gem has gotten so little attention. Thank you for this read!

I wonder if you wrote this with Rarity in mind :raritywink:

PS: One thing that has caught my eye is the existence of Canterlot before the Crystal Empire vanished. One might argue that it probably didn’t exist in the form of a fancy capital that we know today, given the Sisters’ castle was in the Everfree Forest. Still, I’m sure that doesn’t mean that fastival couldn’t have been held in there. Just a little observation.

I wrote this for a contest last December... which means by the time I was allowed to break anonymity, it was out of season. I suspect that's the reason for the low view count. Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for the comment and the favorite!

Eeyup. And there's another reference in that same paragraph. :pinkiehappy:

The timing of the fic lies within an area the show mentions frequently, yet barely shows, about 100 years into Celestia's 1,111 year reign (that is, 100 years after the end of the Tribal Era). I took the liberty to show Celestia already in the transition from the Everfree Castle to Canterlot. She probably moved out quickly after Luna fell in order to distance herself from the memories there. Perhaps what started as a summer palace became her main palace. Maybe Canterlot was simply more centrally located. Maybe a combination of several factors. There's room for reader interpretation.
