What a dark world, what dark actions and secrets.

It's a good thing there's not a being like the Ghost Rider in Equestria, or the sisters would probably burn.

So, Spike's mind matured faster than normal for dragons as he grew?

Dude DUDE!!!!! This was fucking great.!!!!! I LOVE seeing the secrets and getting some REAL depth into the characters like this. It makes everything 100000 times more enjoyable. Man I want, no NEED a follow up to this. There are so many questions and possibilities that can come from this. I mean what WAS the effect of the spell on Spike? Is Celestia STILL killing baby dragons? Does the DragonLord have ANY idea of what is going on/ and if not what will happen when Torch finds out? How come the dragon's couldn't organize when Torch could control them and MAKE them unite which would be a force even the ponies couldn't take one? Biggest is Twilight and Spike. What would they do if they find out some of these secrets, how Celestia really feels about the both of them, I don't even think Twi's loyality to Celestia would stand up to finding out these secrets. There is just SOOOOO much to come from this and I am dying for more.

If you consider that Spike is about half Twilight's age as she hatched him when she entered Celestia's school for gifted ponies, i'd figure it must have accelerated his mental maturation unless dragons by nature mature incredibly quickly, which seems unlikely given their size and how long their life expectancy is typically thought to be (though as far as i know there is no explicit data on that in MlP:FiM).

I don't know much about the Ghost Rider, and given there's about a dozen different interpretations i really couldn't say. But i did my best to portray the alicorn sisters as anything but evil. I've seen a number of "Bash Celestia" or "Bash Luna" stories ... this was definitely not intended to be one of them. In my eyes, the way Luna was treated in the series was a bit unsatisfying. Her entire motivation for turning on her sister and wanting to plunge the entire country into eternal night was nothing more than shallow envy? I felt that would make her a very flat and unapproachable character. I did my best to make it so that even though one might disagree with Luna's actions and consider them to be horrifying, the readers would still emotionally understand why she did them, that it was out of good intentions and that she was driven into darkness by horrible circumstances beyond her control. The story overall conforms to the standards of ancient Greek Tragedy. And to go back to your original comment ... in Greek Tragedy it would not be surprising for someone to burn in hell even though they are fundamentally good beings and what drove them to commit horrible actions was beyond their control.

The effect on Spike must have been very complicated. He basically lost a number of years to that spell. He never got to be a baby. He seemingly matured extremely quickly, and it is entirely plausible that his total life expectancy was shortened drastically as well. While i think that the growth spurt on the day of Spike's first birthday in Ponyville is a natural dragon phenomenon - the more resources they get the more they grow, and if they can't get anything they can actually shrink again, like real life crocodiles - its speed and magnitude was likely multiplied manifold by the spell. (This also explains why dragon culture puts so much importance on size: a successful dragon is one that can obtain huge amounts of resources, and thus grows very large.) There might be a bunch of other side effects we don't even know about yet - and probably no one in Equestria knows of, either.
As far as to whether Celestia is still killing baby dragons, that depends on what season you are talking about. I'd expect she would stop at the latest once Spike helps Ember become the dragon lord and diplomatic avenues become a possibility. It's not like she ever enjoyed it.
The dragonlord MUST have known about this. Anyone who cares would know about this. But just look around today: there's a number of wars where people who experienced them are still alive, and no one wants to talk about what actually happened. Something that came to pass over a millennium ago, that is politically very uncomfortable to even consider? Scholars will find different topics to write their dissertation about when they know that the people in power aren't going to change in the next millennium or so.
So if Torch and the dragonlord at the time of Luna's campaign knew, why didn't they unite the dragons? Counterquestion: Why would he? The dragonlord is the strongest amongst the dragons, so he of course chooses the nicest territory to live in. He doesn't need to fight with ponies unless he wants to. Remember Torch actually lived on another continent? Of course he could force the dragons through pain into obedience and fighting at his side, but an actual war requires sacrifice, and the dragons - who don't want to sacrifice themselves for others - would resent those. As Ember said: "Dragons don't do friends." So the dragonlord would make himself a huge target for both the dragons AND the ponies. Or he could just sit still and decide that those too weak to hold premier territory just aren't worth his time, and live out his life comfortably.

Unfortunately i currently do not have plans for an explicit sequel ... to some degree you could consider In which Spike ... sort of a sequel, since it implicitly assumes the events of The Black Guard happened, even though they probably won't be referenced much.
I will consider writing a sequel if i feel there is actually more to be said - usually the one who decides whether i write isn't so much me as my reasonably pushy and violent muse. You know how Calliope has a tablet and Erato has a cithara? Well, my muse got a baseball bat. But occasionally some other life issues get a say as well. Let's see how my search for an editor goes and i'll make my decisions from there.

Man i was thinking about this story today during work and still just so many things can come from this lol. A sign of a great writer. I was thinking abiut hiw does Celestia and even more so Luna feel about Spike. I mean he is far Far more if a threat and a danger than i think they ever could have thought before. He has not only connected to the new dragonlord but changed her and her views. She is now working to unite the dragons and make them more than they once were. Now this story has gotten rid of alot of the dragon culture from the comics but if we assume that they arise under Embers leadership the dragons will be their own kingdom before too long. And i think that will scare Luna and Celestia shitless. I mean they beat the dragons because they were spread out and that opd dragon nature. If dragons organize and have a real leader ponies wouldnt stand a chance. Spike not only has a strong connection to that but to something they never thought about, changlings. That is a very dangerous species for all they can do and their king has a closer connection to Spike than either ruler. Spike hinself has also shown to be a very strong leader and more magical power than any dragon till this point has shown. And most scary of all his teleportation magic. He could drop dragons in the middle of every major city before anything can be done. Ponies won from being more grouped together than dragons but what if they are taken off guard or the dragons band together as they are looking to be doing now. And does Luna want to kill Spike? I mean Celestia will if she has to but she also has had 1000 years to mellow some even alittle. Luna was trapped that time suffering and thinking of all the visions of dragon attacks and everything else that whole time. So to see a dragon like Spike, one that can change everything i wonder was her first instinct to try to kill him before he can turn in them and kill them all

Glad i inspired some thought.

Now this story has gotten rid of alot of the dragon culture from the comics

Don't have access to the comics and never read them, so yeah, couldn't really include those bits of information in the story. I read up on the contents of what Villany is Magic presented about Sombra, and really that was just plothole after plothole, explaining nothing at all but rather just throwing a bunch of unconnected stuff at people. Were the parts on dragon culture worthwhile? What comic were they in?

And most scary of all his teleportation magic.

Whuuuut? Spike can teleport now, and teleport + other on top of that with a distance limit of cities? Since when?
Yeah ... that is really scary.

If dragons organize and have a real leader ponies wouldnt stand a chance.

I'm not so sure of that (assuming other races stay out of it). There are still A LOT more ponies than dragons, they have two deities on their side, and magic is a huge factor. I'd expect it would be a very costly war of attrition for both sides - think WW I or US civil war - rather than the one sided extermination campaign Luna led.

I mean Celestia will if she has to but she also has had 1000 years to mellow some even alittle. Luna was trapped that time suffering and thinking of all the visions of dragon attacks and everything else that whole time.

My assumption about Luna being trapped on the moon is that
1.) Only part of Luna was trapped on the moon. Part of Nightmare Moon was influencing events in Equestria in episodes 1 and 2. This is also referenced when Celestia strikes Luna - that shadow that whisked away into the night was the part of Luna that staid on the planet.
2.) Luna probably lost a lot of her memories / was barely conscious during her time of imprisonment. In the Nightmare Night episode Luna doesn't know about what has been a common custom in Equestria for at least a generation. If she had been aware of the part of her that tried to stop the Mane 6 in S1 ep 1 and 2 then she should have knowledge about this. If you know about solitary confinement, most people go somewhat crazy after at latest a few days - and these usually have still a tiny modicum of human contact through wardens bringing them food. If Luna was trapped, fully aware and without a chance to interact with any other lifeform on the moon for a millenium, even as a goddess you'd expect her to be completely gone. Perhaps the friendship beams fixed this, but took away a good part of Luna's memories to achieve it.

As for your question on whether Luna and Celestia would feel inclined to kill Spike, i'd say that probably would depend a lot on how much they trust Twilight has control over him. In the series that is near 100%. If, however, Spike and Twilight find out about these past events and their relationship with Celestia and Luna becomes strained almost to the breaking point ... then we might have a story there.
