Rambling Writer

Our job is not to give readers what they want; our job is to show them things they never imagined. --Walt Williams

While spreading word of the Storm King's defeat, Tempest stops in a cafe. Given her past, nopony wants much to do with her. Except for Sunburst, who couldn't care less. With nothing else to do for a few minutes, they begin talking, mostly about magic. Sunburst's got a theory.

A nice little piece of two characters interacting.

What a great little SOL story.

Yeah, maybe just limit yourself to spreading the news to those who are actually impacted by it, Templepop.

On the other hand, that would mean we wouldn't get this wonderful bit of character interaction. Fantastic characterization. I love how they bounce off each other, how they can relate to each other, and holy crap, Sunburst's epic episode of nerd rage. I know I've wanted to unload like that when people get basic concepts wrong.

In all, a great read. Thank you for it.

Did ley lines kill your family or something?”

I laughed out loud.

I love this story:twilightsmile:, Tempest will always be one of my favourite MLP characters:raritywink:

Wonderful story!

Great job! Sunburst and Tempest...now there's a pair of ponies that I wouldn't have expected to see talking to one another.

Wonderful story. Would love a continuation! :)

Now (platonically) glomp him, Tempy!

No! SunDancer is only ship.

I know, right? That aspect of Sunburst reminds me so much of myself. We need more good Sunburst stories like this.

I think there's a little bit of 'awkward yet endearing Sunburst' in all of us.

Great read. I love seeing the extended friends of the main cast with vastly different personalities get to know each other.

Dan

Calling his goatee "dorky?" You've made a dangerous enemy this day, edgehorse.

More Is Required! :flutterrage:

i ship it now

Did ley lines kill your family or something?

Yes, when i was a little foal one day my dad exploded. Nopony couldn't explain how this happend. After few years when i returned to home with Starlight i discovered tgat under my house there is one of ley lines. I'm sure that my dad died from temporary ley line overload. And that is how Ley Lines Crusaders was created. Want to join?

Thank you, Sunburst, for giving us ponies in a nutshell: “It happens.”

Cause a bunny stampede because you overworked yourself? It happens.

Accidentally mind control your friends into literally doing whatever you ask? It happens.

Create multiple timelines while on a quest for vengeance that may have then been erased from existence or may still be out their floundering without some kind of help? Eh, it happens! What’re you gonna do?

Well written, nice characterization. It's bit... dramatically lacking, though. Like, as a narrative, I think it could probably have been more than just Sunburst cheering Tempest up and helping her fix her magic problem. It sorta just reads like a single scene out of context, if that makes sense.

I LOVED this! You did such a great job with the characters! Sunburst's stutters and in-character idiosyncracies really gave his sympathy and help an authentic air as opposed to making him just a strawpony for good intentions. And I learned about nociceptors and limbic systems today. :D Great, great job, it was a darn good feel-good story with a strong overarching flow and a fun look into more of Tempest and Sunburst's lives that we don't see in the show! Definitely Favoriteing!

“I spent so long trying to get my horn back, only to learn that’s impossible, so now what? I’m… I’m pointless.”

Both figuratively and literally... :ajsmug:

Was that pun intended?

Cute and fun story. Worth the read. Thanks for sharing!

I'd definitely read a 50k+ words fic in which they study magic, make big discoveries and save Equestria somehow. And have a romance, obviously.

Nice work ;)

Very well-written, and an inspired choice to use such an unusual pairing.

All ponies remotely associated with Twilight, Tempest decided, had some level of crazy about them. Not low-key crazy, either; midlevel crazy, at least.
:rainbowlaugh::pinkiecrazy:

oh. this was nice! almost like fluff but without as much romance.
if fluff is like hot cocoa with marshmallows on a cold winter night inside by a fireplace then this is like smooth warm coffee outside at an outdoor cafe on a cool autumn evening.

Was randomly looking at tempest stories and you’re game up. I liked it. Very in character

I really enjoyed this fic. It is a well done slice of life story. The interaction between Tempest and Sunburst where written well. :pinkiehappy:

Interesting dynamic. Also I really want to see a short involving Tempest meeting with Yaks now.

Oh Sunburst, you glorious magic nerd you. :twilightsheepish:

This was a very nice little piece!

If you haven't already, could you do follow up stories?

“I was in the Storm King’s army for so long,” said Tempest, the words spilling out, “I don’t know how to do anything else. And I didn’t realize it before, but even if I got my horn, what then? Should I leave him and prance around a conquered Equestria for a few days before getting recaptured and taken as a slave? Run to some land I didn’t know the name of that he’d eventually conquer anyway? Do exactly the same thing I was doing before, making getting my horn back pointless? Overthrow him and get stuck with a job ruling that I don’t even want?” She groaned and glared at her two-thirds-empty coffee cup. “I spent so long trying to get my horn back, only to learn that’s impossible, so now what? I’m… I’m pointless.”

You spent so long wondering if you could that you never stopped and wondered if you should tempest
That's why You shouldn't get a new horn
You still have magic in you
And you discovered a new one too!
