2) I'm actually writing a story where the same portal actually leads to Nazi-occupied Ukraine and Twilight, Rainbow Dash, and Sunset must do whatever it takes to restore the timeline they accidentally alter. How does that sound for an idea?

I think it might be something to do with who you are at your core or genetics. Usually in EG, they seem to take the form of their counterpart. (Though SciTwi would probably still be unicorn.) But in fics I'd just make the human whatever type you identify with personally.(I don't recommend Alicorn though. A character designed to be unbeatable causes problems and the fic becomes stale and boring.)

Well it's not exactly fouth wall breaking for one simple reason; at the end of the story the main character explicitly tells you 'the phone he is using to record is about to die'
If it did not have that one simple line I would probably consider it a meta fic
