It's good. I'm liking it so far, especially Vigil and Bolt.
A handful of grammatical errors, but I'm not nit-picky enough to hunt down all of them.
Suggestion: in the 2nd chapter, with the first journal entry. Might want to add italics to it, just to separate it from the main narrative. That's just me though.

...Oh, and before anyone gets onto me for having the "Summer Sun Celebration" in September, remember this: Equestria probably is on another planet. Quite possibly a different galaxy. In fact, it's safe to assume that it does not exist in this physical universe. Don't you think that it's a bit coincidental that they speak the same language as us, their environment houses the very same animals on earth, plus ones that nearly every culture on our planet is familiar with? I honestly do not find it likely that there's all that, plus Horse head Nebula, plus them changing between seasons the same as us here on Earth. So, if you're really critical about that kind of thing, there's your explanation.
