Well well, trying to muscle into my territory, are we?
Good. Keep it up. The world needs more investigative Rarity.

It really does.

Another case closed, by Great Detective Rarity!

Much fun! Though Rarity has a really bad case of the Detective's Curse...

(And Sunset needs to grow out of the Watson role, she's got plenty of powers they can use for good...even without magic!)

Awesome! Lots of fun
It's... not exactly a Sunset shipping story, is it? It's a delightful Rarity Investigates story and a funky Fair Play Whodunnit. It's a great fun mystery. It's not really a romance, though.

I think what I'm saying is that I fear you may not be going to win prizes in the Sunset Shimmer Shipping Contest, but I'm still very glad you wrote this story because it's a joy to read anyway :raritywink:

The setting and writing was really stylish (as suits Rarity to a tee, of course). Also I'm jealous of the amount of botany you included: I think you had more than my contest entry and mine features Wallflower Blush!

Some lovely lines all through the fic. These were a couple of my favourites:

Rarity gave one of her most disarming smiles, which Sunset would have appreciated more had she not wanted to feel more well-armed.

Sunset pursued, sliding across the hood of her own car (partly because there’s never a good enough reason not to do that)

Now you reminded me of Pinkie Pie during the chase scene in Movie Magic... :pinkiehappy:

Moar Detective Rarity~!

Sunset was caught wildly off guard. Next time she'll be less unprepared. (Saying she'd be prepared would be overstating it.)

You might be right about that, with the romance angle. The thing about romance stories, though, is that I hate them. I probably could have worked the relationship angle in more than I did, I admit, but part of this prompt required that the couple already be in a relationship. That leaves a few options: You could write about their marriage proposal, their actual wedding, an argument or someone messing up or them breaking up...

I didn't want to write either of the first two, I did Sunset messing up with Dappled Shores and didn't want to retread ground, and I didn't want a break-up story. Instead, I wrote a story that involved them already being together and, specifically, Sunset learning something about Rarity she didn't already know. Was it the primary focus of the story? No, not really. And I'm okay with that.

I guess we'll see how it goes during the judging~!

Glad you enjoyed nonetheless. :rainbowkiss:

Will we get to see these times? Please?

Sunset and Rarity follow a blood soaked trail across the the United States of Equestria. People hearing this seem confused that they aren't causing the blood in question. Destiny is so troublesome...

And now I'm seeing Rarity and Sunset as almost a Dirk Genly-esque duo.

It's not the worst idea I've ever had for mystery. Keeping them short would help me finish things and give me ideas and motivation for the bigger project I've been working on for way too long. I'm not saying yes, but I'm not saying no.

9164066
Haha. Well, indeed. As my wife put it, the most obvious story for this prompt is a couple arguing while on a journey, and that's no fun to read or write. I find it much more satisfying to read about a couple with a strong relationship dealing together with whatever life throws at them.

Best of luck in the judging!

MOAR DETECTIVE RARITY.

Exquisite. I can't help but imagine the couple decades down the road, with Rarity going full Miss Marple and dragging her loving but exasperated wife along for the ride. (Sunset never brings up how she can read minds. It'd ruin Rarity's fun.)

Thank you for a lovely mystery. Best of luck in the judging.

yes ... all the yes, just one question , why must you post this while im watching Holmes of kyoto :P
great sory , it read just like a short sir Arthur Conan Doyle story

I kinda love the idea Rarity is like a protagonist in a TV murder mystery series and that everywhere she goes, someone turns up dead or something so she has to investigate.

That's just delightful.

Thanks for the well-wishing, glad you enjoyed!

Flaws and all, I'm sure :rainbowwild:
I've read a whole lot of Conan Doyle, and a whole lot of Christie. If their influence didn't shine through, I'd be shocked. I'm glad you enjoyed the read!

Lots of call for future stories, I see. I like that. I may have to provide after all.

this made me think of the anime detective conan

Nicely done. :D I think I'll join the chorus of 'moar Detective Rarity'!

Sunset gaped at her girlfriend as she gingerly pushed the door open with her back and retreated towards the trunk of Sunset’s old Firebird.

Be more specific, I was hoping it's the Trans Am version, there are different generations of the Firebird here, if it's a Trans Am, then could be this one what she drives? Or this one? Or this one? Or maybe this one?

The newest car was a lawyer’s,

Kinda, his car is gonna be like this.

By the time Sunset turned the key in the old Thunderbird,

I prefer MORE to this ONE. Since the fic says it's a ten-year old car being bought five years ago, then that would make it as a 2003 model (the modern Thunderbird)

This fic has so much fun in it and it's awesome, didn't expected of a story that centers to Detective Rarity, we need more Rarity Investigates fics right here because this theme is so underappreciated. Go, go, Rarity!

I somehow never noticed that I switched the model of Sunset's car halfway through. I don't even know why, I specifically picked a Firebird because she literally turned into a flying fire demon. It seemed appropriate. But I'm glad you enjoyed! Lemme just...edit that bit of a hiccup out of there aaaaaand we're good. It is a Firebird.

I might be working on another fic like this, but it's only barely started and my work ethic is garbage when it comes to fanfics lately, so I don't dare make any promises. But...we'll see. I've got ideas. It's just a matter of getting them down.

9509033
But I just wanna know WHICH generation and year of that Pontiac Firebird what she driving, because there are four generations of the Firebird, including the Firebird Trans Am, take a look at Wikipedia, there are many year changes to that car by each generation:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Firebird

9509967
Well, the part about the 10 year old car bought 5 years ago was Lucille. Sunset's car is the Firebird, and in fact it's an '87, Trans Am. No hood logo, but it is, of course, red. Because this is Sunset.

9510119
Oh, a 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, nice one and also yeah, red is Sunset's color, that makes sense. And no hood logo? I'm fine with that.

And for the ten-year old car, Lucille? But it was supposed to be a white Ford Thunderbird, right? Show me a pic of that car, I want to see what is looks like.

"Let this serve as an official Will: First, I leave the blue car to Serge. I know how much you love that thing."

Can you tell me what model of that blue car there? Show me the pic what it looks like.

9510308
The thunderbird was a typo. I'd mislabeled Sunset's car. I did not give the other cars makes or models because that wasn't the point of the fic. I appreciate that you enjoy cars, but at this point and in this story, it's entirely unimportant to moving the plot forward or developing character or making a reference or joke. Perhaps in future fics I'll settle on the make and model for Lucille, when Rarity specifically owns it, but I do want to be clear about this. This is not a story about cars. Feel free to use your imagination, but I'm not going to put exhaustive (puns) research into picking the make and model of a car that's never driven, especially the blue one.

I'm gonna be honest, this is a little bit ridiculous, but I loved every second of it!
Really, this is all so fitting for Rarity.:duck:

Rarity can be somewhat dangerous to be around, it seems. Very enjoyable story :)

I legit would kill for you to do another story like this. Maybe a mystery involving one of their friends or something. This is so enchantingly good it's absurd!

This was really good! Although, I wish more was done with Sunset.
