It’s definitely been a trip and a half over this past year and change. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it as much as you have, and I hope you enjoy Finding Home just as much if not more (it’s definitely an easier story to digest what with how sad this one was)
This has been a fantastic slow-knife-twist with occasional bouts of happiness over the last year! I think the message Fluttershy sent at the end really proves that this was for the best. Their relationship didn't start on the best of foundations, and while there were times where things were improving there were always secrets being kept: The extent of Fluttershy's trauma being kept from Sunset for months, Sunset keeping their relationship hidden from Equestrian Twi/Shy, Sunset taking the fall for the thrown glass and losing her friendship with Rainbow in the process, and then Shy lying about having met someone new. There was never a complete sense of trust between them, and towards the end the two were relying on each other more for a sense of security than anything, a way to keep themselves from having to face the realities of their lives. It just wasn't healthy.
I look forward to seeing where Shy's journey leads her, despite knowing that thing's aren't going to be better anytime soon. I'm still wondering when Human Sunset is going to show back up after her cameo in the epilogue of Looking Glass. Her showing up to a Bitchette concert would cause some serious chaos. Regardless, this has been amazing to tune into each week. I think I'll go follow it up with a re-read of Finding Home.

She clings to rainbow who in turn wants to protect her but doesn't contribute in any form to help her gain independence.
Sunset self destruction the other hand gets finally stopped by ponyshy and she gains two marefriends, lots of other friends, a big family including Celestia/Luna/Twis parents/Cadance/Shining and even her own parents( which contributed nothing other than making her not an orphan )
(In the short term at least)
Perhaps things get better for her but I don't really believe it
And I would like to see Sunset showing Violet that she didn't imagine being a Unicorn :P

And honestly I don’t have any plans for Violet right now, but there’s plenty of chances to change that now that I’m finally closing up the gaps in this series and can soon focus on its future.

Wow what a ride this was one of the best stories I've read if not the best. Was glad to see her get some advice on what to and was glad it was violet dusk. This story was quite a ride taking us up one point then letting us crash another , I don't know what to think about the epilogue would like to see how that plays out and see if it matches up to finding hoome. I can see how sunset became the way she is in finding home, that bugle has finally played it's last note and as the sound fades I gotta say I looked forward to seeing how this plays out for fluttershy cause I gotta say rainbow isn't the type to after really sound advice sure she may try to help but end up making it worse. But that being said I do have hope for them

This was, overall, devastating to read.
It's also in my top three fics, and likely the most emotional piece of literature I've read.
Starting with post-looking glass Sunset and ending with pre-equestria Sunset, the whole thing was basically a giant buildup, then a huge drop. I loved the early chapters—they felt like Sunset was building a new future with Fluttershy: Sunny and Shy vs. the world. Then there was the event, and the story became Sunset vs. everything including the person she loves most, and basically turned into a hopeless slow downfall.
I was definitely wrong when earlier I thought the emotions were all over the place—really, they're not. The first section is a steady increase in hope, and the second section is a steady decrease in hope. It's a wonderful plot structure for this story in particular, since it really lends itself to a sequel where Sunset can build her life back up again (which I will be promptly reading).
The epilogue was definitely an oof. It feels extremely desperate and hopeless, especially since Fluttershy still loves Sunset. Unfortunately, Sunset did the same thing Fluttershy had already done, and decided to put her own needs first. It's definitely a fitting epilogue, though. I never expected playing house to end on a positive note.

...You just had to twist the knife some more, didn't you. Well, you may not see my comments for a while. Gonna go through "Inner Strength", then I'll continue on with "Finding Home" afterwards, and I tend to comment less on older/completed fics than I do ones I'm tracking. Gonna be kinda weird reading that one, though, given that it was written before this story.
So if the next one is Fluttershy’s story... is Rainbow Dash gonna finally find out that Sunset never actually did anything to Fluttershy?

Yeah but it's Fluttershy's dam dault. She lied, and said it was to help Sunset, she tricked her into thinking she found someone else, replacing her it seems.
So drives Sunset to make some bad choices, and in the end further to drive her away. You read it, when she refuse to admit she still love Sunset it hurt her, and she thought it was a good thing to make her move on.
Well she got her wish, Sunset has moved on. I hope she happy about it, and sure Dash going to love learning the truth.
A phenomenal ending to this all things considered, and followed up well in it's pony-side sequel.
I look forward to seeing Fluttershy's own side to this tale, and hope she somehow finds peace and happiness in time as well.

On a happier note it's quite amusing to imagine Applejack still with Sunset's phone constantly getting messages from Fluttershy who hasn't realised she has the phone now so is singing love song after love song that she wrote to try to win back Sunset, but Applejack has committed to just listening to them as they come and not replying to clarify the situation out of embarrassment.

Oh and I kinda take back my previous 'damn it' comment because reading some comments and taking the time to think about it has lead me to believe that this is the perfect ending to this story. It shows the hopeless/ hopefulness of them both as they constantly get put into situations they are not prepared for; both doing just enough of the wrong thing to push each other apart while trying their best to keep themselves together except when they broke up of course but even then they still cared and failed to show it properly. okay i kinda forget what i was trying to say originally, something about themes and its all connected in tragedy and love (that didn't have to be a tragedy i some key timings were different), but just very well done!
Also can't wait for all the the main characters to show up on a hilltop to stop the evil human sunset evil midnight sparkle and evil evil evil stormy skies like they did in the 2 part finale of the show.

The progress is essentially nonexistent because I’ve been writing instead of working on that lol. So my current plan of attack is to finish Thicker Than Water, which is almost done, then work on the print version of Inner Strength as my primary focus. I still hope to have IS in print sometime in the winter, but it’ll for sure be January/February at the earliest. A PH print edition will absolutely follow IS, although I’m unsure of when that’ll happen. Finding Home will be after that, although that story needs editing, so it’ll take some time. I hope to get my entire bibliography in print someday, even if I’m the only person likely to collect the whole set.

Here’s the full chronological order of the series, and I generally recommend people read it in that order. That starts with Looking Glass, which is before this story (mentioned here was Sunset’s childhood growing up in New Horizons. Looking Glass is the story of that). That would be what I’d do if I were in your position, but if you’d rather move forward with the series instead of reading the older stories since you know how those worked out to an extent, Finding Home picks up right after where Playing House leaves off. Whatever you decide to read, I hope you continue to enjoy it!
