Just some loser with an unusual interest no one else has.

E

In an alternate universe, the Storm King finds a way to enter Seaquestria, captures Queen Novo and Princess Skystar, and interrogates them as to how to get to the pearl. It is up to Silverstream to stop him. After ascending a ridiculously long flight of stairs, the energetic hippogriff faces off against the cuteness-hating tyrant.

In part, this is a parody of the film, The Color of Magic, which I thought of due to a long staircase and the way the villain, Trymon, was defeated (and the aftermath). If you haven't seen the movie, you might not get the references near the end.

Note: In this universe, Silverstream is less fearful of the Storm King than in canon (What Lies Beneath).

This is actually great, cause in the show, Silverstream fears the Storm King, so it's nice that in a fanfic like this, instead of being afraid of him, she confronts him. Love that reversal. 😄😊

Of course there had to be some changes to make this story work. And the overall plans obviously couldn't fit into canon.

I am interested to see how Silverstream deals with the shadows of the Storm King and Storm Creatures in What Lies Beneath, which is most likely some sort of training ground set up by Twilight. I have a feeling that episode will be fun and show a little more of each of the Young Six like the last one did.

9091214
Meh, I don't like the upcoming episodes at all. From Friendship University to School Raze 1 & 2, this season will be at its weakest peak in my opinion. 😅😕

9091307
You do realise opinions about upcoming episodes count as spoilers, right?

9091355
Crap XD It's not the end of the world. At least I'm keeping my mouth shut about the synopses, don't worry. 😇

9091421
It's cool. I'm just frustrated that everyone and their mother seem intent on ruining every single surprise that could come this season. Even hearing people say that an episode is bad, even if it's just their personal opinion, can ruin my experience.

9091430
I can't stand people who overreact over spoilers or ruined surprises, there's better things in life than overreacting about simple shit like that. No offense to you, cause I understand and respect how you feel about this stuff. 😇😊😄

9091307
I'm hoping School Raze will be any good. We've seen animatics but it hasn't even been released or leaked so we have no way of telling whether it'll be good or bad. But I agree the season is at its weakest peak, and Silverstream and Ocellus are the only reason I'm not ignoring it as a whole, and there are episodes that sounded uninteresting based on the synopsis, but some of those can be deceiving.

9091508
I don't like the idea of it at all XD ( Btw, how do you block out that stuff with tags? Lol 😅 )

The only episodes I enjoyed so far were Parent Map, Break Up Break Down, and Mean 6, they actually felt like classic MLP episodes that I'm used to, compared to all the other ones in Season 8 so far XD 😄

9091717
You mean how I blocked the title of that episode? When typing something in there's a dark gray icon with "Sp" on it. Click that either with the text highlighted, or before, then type it in between.

The Mean 6 was one of the few episodes I liked this season. If nothing else for the Mean 6's surprisingly gruesome death. (Which further enforces that they CAN disintegrate Chrysalis with outline effect or the effect they used for Starlight banishing Discord, though if the latter it could cause more debate for her status)

9091836
Okay, that makes sense, thanks. 😄

And yeah, Mean 6 was an episode that I dreamt of happening, because of that disintegration scene, that's what this show needs: more maturity, more deaths of characters that stay evil, like the Storm King, and the destruction of Equestria at least ONCE. XD

9091863
They kinda already did the destruction of Equestria in The Cutie Remark, though it was an alternate future because of course Equestria can't permanently stay destroyed. Though destroying Twilight's library was fine.

I like the show to be a perfect mix of lighthearted and seriousness, with everything turning out all right but not being afraid to have a few dark villains and killing them, which first came true with Sombra which is why he feels like the "Viserys Targaryen" of MLP coz both showed that villains can die in either show (in MLP's case to show they don't consider themselves any more "childish" than G1 or Disney movies, and in GoT's case that not all deaths will be sad). And I do think it the most climactic ending. Of course Discord's redemption was awesome and some like Starlight or even Tempest I was expecting the whole way, but the Storm King's death felt like the perfect touch to making it like a step back in time to the classic Disney movies, or other animated movies like The Swan Princess or Quest for Camelot. And it's always a good sign when trying a kid-friendly show, to know it's willing to have that appeal. Though I got into MLP before Chrysalis even.

Today Disney movies are only killing family members of the hero, which isn't fun for me at all. Even MLP confirmed it with Applejack's parents.

9091943
I'm personally tired of the fun and joy. I know that MLP is family/kid friendly, but I'm probably the only brony that is tired of the happiness within the show. I feel like the show should be similar to Harry Potter, take a dark, depressing tone, and at the very end, have a happy ending. But that's just my opinion. 😅 Heck, most of the MLP characters are similar to Harry Potter characters if you think about it. 😊

9092297
I kinda like it to be fun all the way through, but to each their own.

As far as seriousness and stuff goes, it's fun for me if it's on a scale of the Tim Burton Batman movies, the MCU films except Civil War, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc. Some of the Harry Potter books were hard to read for how dark they got, but the movies did seem to tone some of it down. (Though if they're horror movies they're allowed to get darker than my usual taste, I've watched and loved Saw, Freddy, and Jason, though the latter was full of other scenes I don't care for)

To me, kid-friendly with lots of joy can be really entertaining IF it has elements I really love, like comedy, villain deaths (preferably really sinister or compelling villains like Sombra, G1 Tirek, Maleficent, Jafar, or Rothbart), tail play, or just lovable or relatable characters (though once it started getting to villains evil enough to die in kid-friendly shows, I started to demand that and got it with the second Knight of Cerebus, though I was unsure of Chrysalis's status at the time)

Of course, Smolder takes the "depressing" story further by preferring it to END that way.

9092340
I like it fun and happy too, but not ALL the time. There's gotta be a gap between that and intensity that the show really needs. Cause to me, it feels like the movie Strange Magic, but with ponies instead of pixies, and it's not really interesting enough. But it does have a good storyline and great structure, just not enough intensity.

I know that's not what G4 MLP is meant to be like, but there's people like me out there that want more of a dark side to this show. You know what I mean? 😄

9092515
I'd say the movie, The Crystal Empire, and Twilight's Kingdom are like that, minus the fact that Tirek survived in the case of Twilight's Kingdom.

Speaking of Tirek, even G1 had that with him and Lavan. Also other dark villains like Hydia, Squirk, and Grogar. The first two may have been killed but unconfirmed, and Grogar was banished

9093429
Oh, I hate Grogar so much, he's such a weak and utterly ridiculous character in my opinion XD

9093577
I never really understood why people have him as the second most popular (next to Tirek) when Hydia and Lavan are much more sinister. They made up a rumor that Grogar was a necromancer to highlight how hardcore G1 is, when the deaths of Tirek and Lavan and how evil they were should have sufficed on its own.

His voice didn't even sound that threatening, he sounded like an old man.

9093645
None of the G1 villains, except for Tirek, were good villains. And Grogar really shit the bet for me XD 😅

9093657
Tirek will always be my favorite G1 villain. Dark, menacing, sinister, pure evil, and able to die in a TV cartoon in the 1980s, which was rare. He was how MLP began as a TV series. He is obviously the most popular, being the first to get a G4 counterpart. Also for the villains they reformed, a complaint about that is that, unlike Luna, Discord, Sunset, and Starlight, they never reappeared in later episodes. At least they explained Tempest's absence which was only to avoid bringing back Emily Blunt.

As for "serious vs. too lighthearted", I agree they should reserve the lighthearted moments of joy and no tension for the slice of life episodes set all through the middle of the season and make the two-parters as intense as Disney movies. (though MAYBE not with as graphic villain deaths as Ursula or Maleficent, but then again after the Mean 6 there's no telling how gruesome they'll make Chrysalis's or Grogar's if they do kill them. (Which they WON'T do for Chrysalis, maybe the other though) They even smashed the Storm King to pieces instead of disintegrating him in a light show like Sombra, but then again that scenario worked best with Tempest's redemption)

One thing to note is that the heaviest G1 episode didn't even have a villain. A pony screwed things up by wishing that it would never rain, causing a drought that nearly kills the sea ponies, and all hope seems lost that they can get the troll to restore it, but of course they find a way.

9093800
Tirek is great, it's Grogar that I'm worried about. XD

9093920
Really the only thing that makes Grogar as dark as the others is trying to trap ponies in the Dark Dimension and being abusive to his servants. He's not even really a necromancer like the rumors say, having seen each G1 episode twice. (Though his G4 counterpart may be, given that Sombra's rumored to appear in the same episode as him) Which isn't to say he isn't irredeemably evil, of course.

Tirek threatened to behead a baby dragon, Hydia causes trouble for fun and is implied to have killed most of the Grundles, and intended to drown the ponies as well, Lavan tried to kill the Princess Ponies on more than one occasion and is abusive to Sludge, and unbalanced Pony Land in his quest for power, Squirk is a cruel tyrant who tried to flood Pony Land, and Arabus forced Nightshade to steal ponies' shadows for his power. Also technically Beezen killed all the furniture (though they at least let the baby buggy live), and was going to destroy the ponies. The Raptorians are also shown to be more evil than Porcina, who reforms, and in the end she lets you know how evil the Raptorians were so you don't feel bad that they got turned to glass for all eternity.

I always felt Catrina's redemption was a little rushed.

9095493
I still hate Grogar XD

9095586
Certainly wasn't on my list of favorite G1 villains. Meaning no disrespect to anyone who does like him, of course.

9095590
Same, but to me, he's like if you took Tirek, melted him, and made him 50% less powerful, and then make him look like Brother Bear character, that's how I describe Grogar. A worthless ram with no sense of urgency or any purpose, other than to look as scary as Tirek, that's it. There's no point to the character at all. 😅

9095678
I wonder if that was a contributing factor to people's attempts to make him look more sinister by fabricating the rumor of his being a necromancer.

Of course, if they reboot Grogar for G4, we'll see if they make him more of a compelling villain. Though, I have doubts that the Season 8+ writers can. (Even G4 Tirek, while he has the most epic battle of the series, his voice sounded less menacing and sinister than his G1 counterpart, which almost always had an echo to it)

9095735
Well, if he comes in G4, which has been almost accurately rumored, I hope they make him way better, 10x better than his G1 counterpart XD And bring back Michael Bell's voice performance, that's the only thing that I liked about Grogar honestly. :D

9095848
There's rumors he actually will be a necromancer this time. (so you already know he's rumored to appear in Season 9, that's what I was spoilering). Of course he can't bring back the Storm King unless they make him voiceless, but there is another whose spirit he's rumored to summon (though I haven't been able to confirm these rumors)

9095887
Or they can just get another voice actor that can do a great Liev Schriber Storm King impression XD

9095969
Well if they wanted to recast them they wouldn't have had Seaspray stand in for Queen Novo, have Tempest leave to tell everyone that the Storm King is gone, etc. I also get the feeling the reason they were more willing to kill the Storm King than Tirek or Chrysalis is coz after fans were disappointed that Sombra wouldn't return, they wanted to leave Tirek and Chrysalis open for possible returns, while this wasn't a place they could really go with the Storm King even if he survived, so they went the full classic Disney ending with him

But, that isn't to say they can't give him a non-speaking role as, say, a hallucination or a shadow clone or something. They already showed his image in The Hearth's Warming Club when Silverstream was telling a story.

9096061
His "death" isn't Disney-like to me XD

9096066
True that the closest Disney came to killing a villain the same way was Rourke in Atlantis, but I meant killing him off at the end in general, most of my favorite classic Disney movies did that. It felt like the most climactic ending. (And Hercules had a sort of immortal's stand-in for Hades) Besides, I like more proof that FiM considers itself on par with them rather than below. It just felt like a step back in time to the days of those classic animated movies, whether Disney or stuff like The Swan Princess, Quest for Camelot, or Anastasia (though Anastasia slipped my notice until after MLP)

9096164
Classic Disney villain deaths for me, lie with Scar, or Malificent, or even Professor Ratigan. Those deaths are wonderfully and gruesomely done. 😄

9096171
Ah, so you like the gruesome ones. Personally I like the falling ones or the light show ones, but the brutal ones are quite entertaining. Ratigan's was just a family-friendly falling one also seen with Gaston, but most brutal ones were Scar, Maleficent (you can even see her blood), Ursula, the Horned King, or, just as infamously, Clayton being HANGED. Someone brought him up when people were saying Sombra's death was dark right after The Crystal Empire. Sombra's death was pretty tame. And technically we DO see the Storm King's body in pieces and half a head next to the screen, even though as he was a statue there was no blood or anything. Contrast Sa'luk whose death was in itself being turned to a gold statue without any need for smashing him to pieces.

The evil queen is also noteworthy even though she's most likely dead before the boulder crushes her, and definitely dead before the vultures start eating what's left of her. Also Sykes crashes his car into a train, Shan Yu is blown up on a tower of explosives, Frollo falls into lava, and some would count Jafar for the way he explodes (not to mention his skeleton being visible and him being electrocuted. Good thing Genie's lamp was never destroyed in the first film)

And Facilier being dragged into hell had such a creepy atmosphere to it. I saw that movie later too, and loved it

For non-Disney examples, Rothbart of The Swan Princess gets shot in the heart with an arrow, though he turns into a giant bat for the battle to make his semi-realistic death seem less graphic, even though he then explodes in a flash of magic lights, plus unlike Maleficent there was no blood. Clavius and Knuckles also die by lava in the second film. Zelda's on the other hand is magical and instantaneous

9096190
Yeah, I even enjoyed Magneto killing Shaw with a coin to the brain in X men First Class. Now that was gruesome XD I know it's live action, but still, awesome. 😄 And Voldemort's distintegration. ^^

You're right, Ratigan's death was just falling, but at least the way he attacked Basil on the Big Ben clock, was gruesome enough to me. :) Scar and Malificent were perfect. 😀 All these other examples you gave, are good too. ^^

Now, the MLP deaths should be simple. Obviously no blood, but rather maybe distintegration, killing spells ( Avada Kadavra ) and falling, like Disney deaths and Storm King, but abit more intense. That's my opinion on how it should go XD

9096400
I used to think Chrysalis fell to her death in ACW, until she returned in TWABA

If there's one thing I was waiting for longer than the nonexistent deaths for Chrysalis and Thanos, it was Voldemort's disintegration. I have that as my second favorite villain death next to Emperor Palpatine.

Thanos's servant, The Other, also caught my attention in The Avengers for how mysterious he was, and was pretty fun to see Ronan twist his head 180 degrees. And of course Ronan's Sombra style death was awesome too. (The Other is avenged lol)

And there's plenty of ways they could kill Chrysalis or Grogar, even Neighsay if he descends into being the kind of villain who would kill heroes or innocents, that are more family-friendly than the deaths of the Mean 6 or even the Storm King.

I don't believe I've had a conversation with someone with equal interest in this before. You should join my group

9096451
Emperor's death was classic. That was Disney style, with just the perfect amount of intensity. 😃

Nah, Apocalypse's death was better than Ronan's in my opinion, Jean Grey literally distintegrated Apocalypse from his flesh to his skeleton, I love it. 😄😊

And most of the major good characters die in my MLP story, but then come back to life at the very end of the adventure in a new reality. Like Days of Future Past did. 😇

And well, now you have. :) I'll consider joining your group. ^^

9096500
Apocalypse's death was awesome too. I was kinda curious for two years as to how they'd defeat him, on a slightly lesser scale to Thanos. That movie felt like a MCU movie, and it was nice having a villain so evil and so powerful that the X-Men didn't hesitate to kill him.

We can continue our discussion on PM's if you want.

9096597
I agree, but honestly, if you think about it, Thanos needs the Infinty Gauntlet to gain all the power, but Apocalypse can do almost ANYTHING with his default God-like powers, shouldn't he be more powerful than Thanos? That's what I wonder. 😊

And I never learned how to use PMs on this site XD

9096660
Well, you just click my name, there will be a bunch of tabs on the right, and one that says "Mail". But I'll send you a PM to respond to the other part of your comment

9096690
Ah okay. 😄
