For years, the smith was more than content. He had a home, a loving family, and the power to move between worlds. But a cruel artifact turned what had been a simple excursion into an indefinite sentence within the largest of gilded cages. And so he adapted, to survive and to thrive. Once the ultimate prize had been claimed, though, he was free. Free to return to his children.

However, events on Equus were still very much in motion during Angrath's absence...

I'm sure most of you figured this out already, but this story doesn't line up with MTG canon. Officially, Angrath reunited with his daughters, who both had normal, non-Equestrian names. I had the original idea for this story before that point, and I almost abandoned it. However, after mulling it over some more, I realized that if that little blurb is disregarded, everything else lines up perfectly.

See, practically every crossover between MTG and MLP I've read falls into one of two categories: an existing planeswalker travels to Equus, or an MLP character is made a planeswalker. However, Angrath's home plane was never confirmed. Obviously, there have to be minotaurs native to the plane. The only other piece of info given is that wherever he's from has dragons but not dinosaurs. Having him be from Equus lines up with all the details. Angrath's name is pretty blatantly a portmanteau too, which he would have needed to adopt to avoid arousing confusion or suspicion during his travels.

Ooooh boy, this shall be interesting. Does it pass before or after the movie? And I gotta be honest, I thought Tempest and Celaeno were, somehow, her daughters. To know they are (most likely) dead... yeah, I don't envy those that stand in his way :twilightoops:

About the follower special, sorry, I missed it :fluttershyouch:

Yes.

You'll find out next chapter!

Oh, this looks fascinating indeed. And hopefully Angrath's nieces, First Sapphire and Final Ruby, are still alive. :raritywink:

All jokes aside, this looks like it'll be one heck of a read. Looking forward to more.

Oh boy. Everyone in Angrath's way is in for a bad time, and that probably includes Angrath himself. Even if he does lay Tempest low—and part of her may well welcome it—what will he do with himself afterwards?

Ah, but it is not the black-red way to worry about tomorrow when there are still flammable and/or killable objects still hanging around today. Full sail to vengeance by proxy!

And it's kind of funny. Normally, I'd say the parrot pirates are textbook aven... but then they went and named one of them Celaeno. You can't call them anything but harpies given that.

(Also, that card is horrifying, especially the exponential emblem. I'm just not sure if it's the good kind of horrifying or not.)

Honestly, I called them harpies because a large portion of the creatures in MLP are Grecian in origin. Pegasi, minotaurs, Cerberus, etc.

Well, it is pretty much a ticking time bomb. Probably useless in standard or the likes, but amazing in a draft.

Doesn't seem like the middle hability would ever be used though. And it's useless if you haven't lost at least a couple creatures at the very least.

You forgot a pretty critical line of text with Fizzlepop's card: The spell doesn't get exiled. Which means you can keep casting the same one. Give her double strike and a Lightning Strike and she can deal 12 to face.

Aside from that, fantastic chapter, from the interaction with Ember to the fight to Fizzlepop paying redemption forward. And not a moment too soon. :twilightoops: I hope the changelings have decent medical facilities. Eagerly looking forward to more.

Glad to hear you liked it! I thought the climax came out pretty satisfactory myself.

As for the card, the non-exiling was intentional. The effect only triggers after damage, and she's a four mana 3/3 with no other abilities. If the opponent can't answer that, they would have been shredded by the red deck anyway. Compare to Goblin Dark-Dwellers, which isn't legendary, triggers on etb, casts spells of any color, and is a 4/4 with menace.

it's nice to see an angrath fanfic, especially with him going full red rush.
my only criticism is the tempest card. it says "combat damage" not "combat damage to a player". this is just a little broken seeing as; 1) the card doesn't exile, and 2) Umezawa's Jitte is considered one of the most broken cards ever printed

We begun to move, Fizzlepop leading me through the evolving wilds.

At least it wasn't a terramorphic expanse. He really doesn't want to end up walking into one of his past selves right now.

The sad thing is that Angrath himself might be the best on-plane hope he has of finding a capable, sympathetic necromancer.

I was somewhat surprised to find that these changelings weren't actually blueish fey creatures with slitted yellow eyes, but rather looked like the product of some Simic biovat into which a pony, a beetle, and an assortment of paints had been dumped.

Who told him about that pro—
I mean, what a ridiculous notion for a krasis that definitely isn't incubating as we speak. Ahem. :trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright:

"Actually," began Pharynx, "there's the old standby tactic, from when we preyed on ponies. Shapeshifting into a loved one of the target was always the best way of drawing that love to the surface, helping them feel better."

Ah, hadn't thought of that. Even if no one's around for a disentombing, you can always use a body double. That said, declining the offer was probably the wisest move for moving on. Angrath, or rather, Angled, has let his past rule him for long enough.

Excellent resolution (though I will note that that should definitely be Drifters' Unity; there has to be more than one.) Also, brilliant touch with contrasting the found family with, say, the orders of Bant. No exaltation here, just those who are trying to rebuild wrecked lives. Thank you for a great read.

Again, you're most welcome!

...is it bad that I'm picturing "Tempest The Lightning Cannon" now?

I don't know anything about MTG or Angrath but still enjoyed the story.
