I’m cuckoo for Coco Pommel!

E
Source

Coco Pommel is a "glitch": a rejected pony AI sent to live in a simulation below Equestria. In a world where pony AIs are used as props for a successful television program, her story--and her future--couldn't be more unclear. As she tries to make sense of her new world, she happens across a fellow glitch--a filly trapped inside a mysterious capsule.

And so begins Coco's journey to forge her own story outside the simulation...

That’s some nifty cover art.

Okay, I have to admit, despite the departure from your usual fare, this is legit interesting. The general odd friendship between Lightning and Coco of all ponies, and more Coco and Babs cuteness? (Or just more Babs in general) It has captured my interest, and I can't wait to see where you go with it.

Welcome back to the eighties, man.

9028777

The truly hilarious thing is my IRL novel project is science fantasy. So even though this is more "hard" sci-fi, it's much closer to what I want to write professionally than my fic stuff.

And yeah, the Coco/Lightning friendshipping potential was a lot of why I wanted to write this.

9028796
Huh, interesting, and very, very cool. I'd use radical, but some things have not aged well.

JMP

Looks really good so far. I like the lore, and the character interactions are great.

Lightning, Babs and Coco are long overdue and should return.
Especially Dusty.

Huh. You know, I once had an idea for a fic that was rather similar to this in premise years back during season 2, when Derpy had her own little...fiasco...and it was still up in the air if she'd even return again. I was real close to doing it at one point, too, but then Derpy came back, and it made the whole idea feel irrelevant again, so it died out and I never did it.

Even though I can already tell your tale here will be different in terms of overall plot to what my idea was, I can still say it's nice to see the same general idea getting used.

Anyway, it's a nice concept, and curious to see where it goes next.

That's so odd! Glad to hear I'm doing this idea justice in your head! Actually, Derpy is one of the only ponies to "graduate" out of the Motherboard in this canon.

Also, I keep meaning to read your stuff! Grief is The Price We Pay has been on my RiL forever, so I'm really honored you like my stories.

9029856
Well, in my version, Derpy didn't "graduate" to get back, she had to be "rescued"...that's about where my idea and your idea starts diverging in terms of plot. But yes, the premise was the largely the same. Pitched Equestria as this sort of simulation place controlled by an outside power (the "Hub" :raritywink:), and any and all cast members deemed problematic were effectively "banished" from the main group into this kind of "backstage" kind of area, of sorts.

As for "Grief"...if it helps, I have lots of fics in my RiL that I've needed to be getting around to reading forever but haven't too. :rainbowlaugh:

9029867

Glad to see you're in the same boat as me! Right now I'm trying to work on The Enchanted Library, Sunset of Time, and Aftermath of a Fallen Star. Since they're all rather long...it might be a while before I get to Grief. Probably after I finish Aftermath, since it's the shortest.

9029366
Aye, I'd love to see what's happened to her since then. Seriously, has she learned her lesson or not? (Doubtful, knowing her, but...)

9032627
I´m pretty sure she learned her "lesson" even before she was kicked out.
Read the comments under this picture and you will see her in a better light.

9032794
I like Dust, I do, otherwise, I wouldn't be in her fan group here on FIMficion. I'm just saying, she's like Season One Dash, stubborn to a fault and rather reckless.

9032797
For me Wonderbolt Academy is one of the few episodes I despise and what happened to Dusty is a horrible waste of a great character and an injustice.
She was the scapegoat for everything what went wrong in this episode.
Hopefully this mistake will be corrected in The Washouts.

9032847
You know, for some reason I've suddenly decided to stop talking to you.

This is so deliciously meta. I quite enjoy it.

JMP

Oooph. Yeah, I can see how that'd make friendship and romance difficult.

9081389

It gets a bit more intense once it’s actually revealed. I really wanted to give Lightning a glitch that didn’t have to do with recklessness, since that would be a trait the programmers would’ve wanted from her, you know? :raritywink:

Do the CMC appear in this story?

God... just god. If I knew Lightning Dust honestly was repenting here, I'd want to be punching her so hard here. She's definitely learned her lesson, unlike the show's Dust who's remained a bitch and reckless loose cannon through and through.

Also Coco, you're absolutely right. You fight fate, you make your own destiny.

JMP

OOoooh, this was a really nice chapter.

9130955

Thanks. I’m pretty proud of it, so I’m glad you liked it.

Darn it... The last part legit got me in tears:fluttercry:

The story of pony-AIs living under manipulations within a huge illusion of simulation created by some other more capable “beings", for a lack of words, reminds me so much of the game Detroit: Become Human. Different stories though, but you can still see the similar desires and struggles for independence, self-fulfillment and freedom.

Very powerful story. Now I really want to see how this is going to unfold from now on!:pinkiehappy:

And please have a fav!

Awwwwww... Heart grows a few sizes

Heartwarming story, Quill. Masterful, masterful work.

Excuse me while I cry a bit.

JMP

Didn't even know she had a different name in the show. Then again, haven't actually watched it in years. Great story, though. It was a bit concerning at the end when Coco didn't remember despite her flower, but it all turned out nicely in the end.

its an interesting bit of storytelling...i wonder if the mane six ai's will have trouble adjusting to there new life in motherboard, after all they were the ones with the tightest strings wernt they...they would probly be able to bairly function without any oversight

Wow, this is a really good take on the series.
I adore the friendship!

The second half felt a bit rushed, but otherwise this was a good chapter. I really like this story.
