So.....her antitechnology bias comes from

1) A smug, slothful lack of interest in anything that isn't magic.
2) The irritating tendency of nanny-state politicians like her to blithely assume that lesser entities aren't fit to run their own lives and need protecting from themselves.
3) A xenophobia that would be hilarious were the results not catastrophic.

Good to know.
As for the ruinous results of Celestia's thinking that she knows better how to live her ponies' lives than they do, let's remind ourselves that in a world wherein she would be able to let a machine do mindless mechanical chores, Applejack wouldn't have been forced to settle for being a talking draught animal who cannot even write her own name. Also, let's remember that Nephite medicine was able to correct Ditzy's crossed eyes with almost contemptuous ease.

Yeah i still wonder what "price" Ditzy had to pay to get her eyes straight (in the very least every medicine is poison for some other body part), her drastic increase in aggressiveness maybe.

I still wont trust the nephites, not in this story world.

And if Equestria had nuclear bombs/power , bombs mostly, we,so ponies/every other race in this world, tend to try to use everything we can as weapons.

so would the rest of the world at some point then, and by how they usually act,at least half the world would have been a nuclear wasteland if not all,and this would be a fallout sidefic.

57794

A thousand years ago, most of the world hasn't even gotten past a Roman Empire level of development. Equestria was way ahead of everybody else.

57814
You'd hinted as such when Luna bitterly complained that the ponies of Equestria had been made to forget that they'd invented most of the mid twentieth-century level technology that the other species on Tau Ceti III took for granted.

57794
The aggressiveness that alarms you isn't from cosmetic surgery....it's the end result of her snapping after an eternity of being treated like a joke by ponies who never showed her any sort of kindness. No matter how much she'd tried to be nice, she got treated like something they scraped off their hooves in disgust and that sort of messes with a pony's mind.

58432

Some even after several surgeries cant see straight (their eyes may look straight but they dont see so), thats todays technology and knowledge.

Surgery isnt the only type of treatment and were talking about a fictional world where "anything is possible".And i looked around now,was sure she said medicine when talking about the recovery of her eyesight ,not surgery. But cant find it now and not that persistent.

Being bullied all her life can explain her hate for Ponyville but attacking and burning down another town? and she surely still had some friends, not all of ponyville are assholes to the ones who are different.
Graham was the one who rescued her from prison, if she doesnt trust him to be able to rescue himself and others, so lacks trust in ponykind probably?

57814

I know, and i said "at some point then" ,but then again its what ifs ,if Luna ruled Equestria she would probably share all the tehnology and what not with others and we would get nuclear wars probably, even tho she would just give it to help them.

58508

Medicine, in this case, refers to the field of medicine.

Nephite medical science is far superior to the rest of Equestria, even despite the lack of Unicorn doctors, whose magic offers them a greater level of precision. The nephites live in the Divide for years, and we're able to pull a lot of technology that Moses Marening was able to get working.

I think the apprehension about Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo's behaviour comes from how she is commonly portrayed. Usually as the diligent mailmare who keeps on smiling and working regardless of how she is treated.

Now this time, she has had it and started to lash out at the society who deems those different to be wrong, in spite of the fact that uniqueness and tollarance are preached as the core values of pony society. Appleoosa was Ditzy's stand against their hypocritical society. It just didn't go in a very healthy way.

58948
Or in a way that she herself felt comfortable with after the fact; my inner panicky idiot fears that she'll do something counter to her own best interests in a misguided attempt to atone for it. As for the Nephites themselves, of course they have their own agenda. Everyone in the world you've created does, after all. What separates them is how honest they are about it. When you contrast someone like Celestia who has a definite reason for what she does and isn't ashamed of it with an Applejack who hid her own agenda from herself, you end up admiring the smug jerk playing god more than the farmpony hiding her shame from herself.

Okaaaaaaaaaay......The New World is clearly leaking into the Old what with the Luna of the past getting freaked out by what Vinyl's doing.

Also, Emerald is playing with fire using Legion as her go-to pony for Operation: Kill Stupid Fearful Luddite Idiot Celestia.

59792
I do hope you aren't letting your feeling for Wheller's Celestia leak into your feelings for her in the show. I get a feeling you're not a huge fan of the Celestia here :trollestia:

59845
The Celestia on the show is more or less Twilight's cool big sister; Wheller's Celestia is an insane, paranoid, domineering and ignorant tyrant hiding her elitism and dirigism with a plastic smile. The one on the show wouldn't have written Ditzy off as a simpleton just because she had crossed eyes; the one here does.

59870
Did she really? I don't remember that. Yeah, that's a little un-princesslike. Not cool Celestia.:trixieshiftleft:

59872
That depends on what you mean by 'princesslike'; if you use the American meaning, she isn't being at all like a princess. To those of us who have to contend with them on a regular basis, it could mean any damned thing.

Hmmmmm interesting legion is interesting.

59792
Assuming it's Emerald and not the Machine Cultists. It didn't say and they've seized a number of Spritebots from Emerald Sparkle.

60010
Oh, great; I'd forgotten that there were two sets of jerks with a high-tech agenda.

Archimedes almost worries me more than if it is Emerald. After all, we don't truly know what he wants, just that he's pro technology. And I somehow get the feeling he's a lot more important then our short view of him has led us to believe. A Chekov's gun, if you will.

60236

Good call.

Better to fear the man with a smile on his face and a knife behind his back, then a man with a scowl on his face and his gun to your head.

At least you know the intentions of the man with the gun.

Legion worries me so much, lets just assume it's Emerald Sparkle, then Celestia will probably get removed which would mean technological progress could continue but as stated if it is Archimedes this could mean anything.

The fact that trains have engines in the show but ponies still pull them has bugged me forever.

We get another look into Celestia's mind here and it's a rather scary one; Twilight's having to remember how lazy and blind her former mentor really is under the friendly smiles might explain why she's in panic mode. Also, she remembers trying to have to raise Filly Tia who was sort of a kindly but otherworldly twit.

Speaking of twits, Octavia is finally trying to get Applejack; too bad that she'll be upgraded "that annoying hayseed" to "that focus-point of a policemare's pity."

That train is going through Canterlot, right? Celestia's capital? A train that was supposed to no longer exist, because she had them all destroyed? I think that she will get her hooves on it one way or another, and that turns out rather poorly for at least one group of ponies. The only question is, which?

61324

The train tracks that service Canterlot don't actually go to Canterlot, they run near Ponyville, because Canterlot is in the mountains there isn't any room for rail tracks.

Railroads are generally seen to be okay technology, (steam engines, anyway). Though until recently, there's been a slight energy crisis where there hasn't been enough coal to power the engines, (À la: Over the Barrel.) which required teams of draught ponies employed by the rail companies to keep the trains moving.

Alexander Cromwell reference! Win.

62782

No, Oberlander Cromwell is a reference to Oliver Cromwell.

Oberlander Cromwell will later go on to found the Protectorate of Welara. (Which in itself will late become the Kingdom of Welara), by making off with the entire Equestrian Navy, and a good portion of Equestria's earth pony population.

Cromwell was also an identity assumed by the Siblings Nightmare in the old world.

And now we see exactly why Celestia is an insane Luddite; she'd rather her subjects be as ignorant and pathetic as Applejack than deal with something that terrifies her. The modern-day sequence, on the other hand, is especially telling; she has no real idea of the Hell the Nephites go through because ponies believe her to be a god because she can't be bothered to care. Remember when the author called Equestrian society hypocritical because of the whole "We'll love and tolerate you unless you have the slightest physical imperfection whereupon you're dirt under our hooves" thing? Miss "It's not MY fault if they think I raise the sun" is the apex of the whole rotten system.

in the old world she put the sun above the Capital of South Island when they pissed her off, now she cant move it anymore huh?

63094
My guess is that she doesn't so much move the Sun itself as such; what she does do is alter how much sunlight the Cetians get. It's probably all done with mirrors of a sort.

62996
For me, this chapter actually gives some meaning and a reasonable excuse to Celestia's hate for technology. Queen Gaia flew into the radiation from the blast. I bet the next chapter will continue the flashback to the point where she died, and when Celestia finds out how, and why, she is going to be furious with Emerald. I can see why she acted the way she did now.

63158
Perhaps.....the problem, of course, is that it's a rather insane overreaction on the part of someone who doesn't let facts get in the way of making decisions. The downer 'linear logic' trip that Emerald wants to lay on her gets in the way of letting her emotions and her need to think that she has the right to decide for everypony else because she's powerful and they aren't make her closed, narrow, empty mind up for her.

You said Gaia died by sickness this time around?

Cancer much?

63138>>62996>>63164

Take note of what was said. It did not say whether or not she did raise the sun, she was just asking how many believed that she did.

Ah. Point taken. She does seem to have some sort of linkage to it.....or perhaps she is it.

that last line sounds.....bad. i know that they hada good time in trotterdam...but what the fuck did they do between the time we left them and when we went to check on what AJ was doing?

63538

It involved fire and £4000 of property damage, anything else is up to your imagination.:pinkiehappy:

Fires...not one fire bur several...
:pinkiecrazy:

Wonder what will make Celestia remember the old world, getting her back in the plot will lead to this i fear. :facehoof:

Aha! I found you.
I've been following your series on fanfiction.net and just stumbled on it here.

So dark and yet so addictive...
You must have a mental problem sir, but whatever it is, DO NOT get it treated. :derpytongue2:

By the way, I love the rate you are publishing at.

This is what happens when a Bourbon-style monarch like Celestia who remembers everything but has learned nothing makes somepony with OCD her protegee.

A very bad time indeed, Pinkie. You're dealing with a monarch with a mind the Cutie Mark Crusaders would regard as being hopelessly simplistic and that Surprise would regard as insane and twisted. Grief, fear and other emotional concerns that must not affect statecraft have condemned her little ponies to misery because she and her family are freaks who are unusually vulnerable to ionising radiation because of the way their powers work.

66481

Unfortunately, Surprise isn't really having a lot of thoughts right now, she doesn't know who to act like at this point.

Hope to Luna she doesn't start imitating Celestia! :pinkiecrazy::pinkiegasp:

I think that Twilight just failed in making everything seem normal.

66483

Oh, right. I'd forgotten. She's a mimic who behaves like whoever she's with. It'd be even better if she didn't start acting like Legion.

Would be funny seeing her prancing around with a wingboner most of the time (how Celestia is in the show mostly lol... )

And no pinkie, its not a good time to drop dynamite while in a room full of ponies, including a princess who is suspicious of Luna and Vinyl now, plus the others too probably.

All that is missing is for Celestia to notice Emeralds little machines...

.....the insurance premiums....theyre throgh the roof....

66796

They would be if Vinyl had any. She's rich and paid for it all out of her saddlebags. Of course, now she's almost broke. :raritydespair:

Wow Pinkie, way to test that new dynamite! But not infront of :trollestia:, NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Twilight: Pinkie how could you?:scootangel:

Great......sunny with a chance of madness due to grief. Like father, like daughter.
