That said, I can see Ember being into sweeter, more soft-spoken males, and Thorax was gloriously awkward in this.
Embrax is an interesting ship, and not without political implications. I'd love to see it explored more often in fanfics.

I love the pairing Embrax. I knew I’d ship it once Triple Threat came out, and darn it, I was right. They have such great chemistry, and balance each other well, I think. Plus, they almost fought when first meeting each other, and that’s kinda my guilty pleasure
But yeah, it’s a great ship with a fair amount of fanart on Derpibooru (which I visit frequently), but no fanfiction at all on here, so I decided to try my hand at it (but I couldn’t help but write Pharynx too, cause he’s terrible and I love him)

Given that Aswangs are an Indian kind of vampire or ghoul, I could see the Aswang being some kind of undead changeling.

The mention of an Aswang came from a thought that Ember might be the type to brag about her accomplishments to her friends. So I looked up information about terrifying mythological creatures that weren’t already on MLP, and that showed up and I was like “This is creepy and I love it.”

Meh, it's only a little creepy. The Smooze gave me a nightmare way back when, but that stuff is an anti-civilization threat, anything lower can say hello to dream-me's phasers, nuclear weapons, ships, shields, oh and sensors to boot. Come to think of it, my dreams after watching The Thing weren't all that bad because in them I managed to diplomance it by fusing with it, that was fun.
This made Ember's threat towards Thorax in the second episode feel really awkward now. Makes me wonder if she just wanted to claim the Changeling Kingdom...and its king for her own hoard.

I honestly think that Ember’s outburst came from her habit of jumping to conclusions when she feels like someone is threatening her or another dragon (in that case, she thought Smolder was stolen by the other creatures). I don’t think she was using her better judgment when she accused Thorax. Thorax was honestly the only one thinking straight
Plus, this oneshot might take place a few months later or so, when Ember and Thorax know each other a little more.
But ... it is kinda funny to imagine Ember being so greedy

“Should’ve thought of that before making lovey-dovey eyes at Ember while I was still around,” Pharynx hissed bitterly. He left the room in a huff, leaving a very confused Thorax and a very embarrassed Ember.
Back at the castle, Pharynx apologizes to thorax and ember for what happened earlier.
Man, I could relate with Pharynx in more ways than one, especially when it involves going to places out of some obligation and force to wait. 😑 not fun times.
