Twilight Sparkle came to terms with her new status as an alicorn some time ago. However as a few years pass and her brother now has a foal it turns her mind to the future, specifically her future. Celestia and Luna were immortal, and now was she too immortal? She will learn the truth with the help of Celestia, and Minuette. And we get to know Minuette's secret.
Random little story that popped into my head with some strange head canon at the end. The middle also has head canon but it's taking stuff from my little pony and explaining/approaching it with head canon. The end is just me thinking "this would be interesting."

Well it wasn't so much under the influence of insomnia as "I can't sleep... Eh, I have an hour to kill then."
I like your idea about alicornhood being linked to power sources. However, I wonder if it could be argued that Twilight would outlast her friends or the princesses even, because she is specifically the element of "Magic". Just a thought.
