I was basing Spitfire's response to Thunderlane on the lessons she had learned from Rainbow Dash in "Rainbow Falls" (S4 E10), and was aiming to use that as the basis for a really cathartic ending. I'm glad it worked!
To be honest, he's not one of my favorite background ponies but still, that suck. Poor Thunderlane.
I loved this and it highlights a cruel fact that most don't consider. No matter how good of an athleet you are, anything can happen to sidline your carrer. I'm happy Thunderlane's team was there to support. great work, keep it up.

I found my inspiration for this fic in "Rainbow Falls" (S4 E10), in which Soarin is injured and Spitfire quickly drops him from the Cloudsdale/Wonderbolt team and tries to replace him by luring Rainbow Dash away from the Ponyville team.
Like you say, that really brings home the precarious nature of being an athlete at the top of their game, and I wanted to show how Spitfire had learned from Rainbow Dash and made sure that Thunderlane could continue to play an active part in the team even though his flying days were over.

We don't get to see much of him, but he is a good big brother to Rumble, just like the relationship the CMCs have with their sisters.
I've also tried to show how much others care for him by how they display their humanity to support him.
