Chapter 3

A towering gun-metal grey prison house stood silently over its grassy foundation like a statue, its pointed castle-like roof tips slicing through clouds as they tried to float by. Unlike most jailhouses in Equestria, the Isla Soarna Prison was built on top of a floating island as a precaution to prevent any prisoner from escaping. It’s so high up in the sky, only pegasi could access the prison. Inside the deteriorating walls, hundreds upon hundreds of jail cells were lined up next to each other in a organized fashion. Criminals were housed in the tight cells, forced to spend their days lying on rock-hard beds while staring at the ceiling. Sitting inside a wider jail cell, Onix Star was busy flicking a pebble at the wall. He’s been at this for hours, and the excessive amount of boredom was reaching its peak. But it wasn’t merely boredom that kept nagging at the former sergeant’s mind. He was fixated on seeking vengeance on the one responsible for imprisoning him. The one who shattered his dreams of gaining fame and popularity among the citizens of Canterlot. He had hoped to win the affections of Canterlot’s residents after quelling the monster threat. He figured they would be more appreciative of his efforts. Afterall, The Fillypines had been less welcoming to Onix due to other reasons only he knew. But now, his great ambitions were broken. His dreams were nothing but memories. And Princess Celestia was to blame for it all. Onix needed to escape, to put his vengeance plan in fruition. But there was no way out of this building.

Or is there a way?

Onix noticed a light-grey stallion clad in a dull blue uniform standing right in front of his cell. He eyed his key chain, narrowing his eyes. Onix realized this officer was his ticket to freedom. All he had to do was make the officer enter his striking range.

“Hey, officer, how much did you pay for those dirty hand-me-downs?” Onix asked, stirring a couple of low chuckles from several other cells. The officer refused to answer Onix and kept quiet.

“You seem a little quiet there. Let me guess: Ex-wife got your tongue.” Onix said, getting nothing but louder chuckling and even a couple of laughs.

“You must be thinking over all the terrible life choices you made before getting a job here. Can I ask you something? Do you think it’s worth working in this dead-end job? Knowing that whatever good deeds you may accomplish might amount to nothing?” Onix continued to prod. The officer, now visibly annoyed, tried to ignore him again.

“It’s not worth working for Princess Celestia. She lies and destroys dreams. I wanted to be a hero, slaying those monsters and saving Equestria. But Celestia shut my weapons program down, and threw me in jail all because she suddenly got soft for a monster. Why do you want some liar to lead Equestria? She’s clearly not fit for leadership.” Onix stated. The officer was fed up with the former sergeant and faced the snickering stallion with a scowl.

“No one talks about the Princess that way!” The officer exclaimed, grabbing hold of the bars. Without warning, Onix grabbed hold of the officer’s left hoof.

“What are you gonna do, tough guy? Give me a lecture? HA!” Onix stated, unsheathing a knife hidden in his pocket. He plunged the blade into the officer’s chest, shoving it deep into his heart.

“Equestria needs a new ruler, one who isn’t a emotional weakling like Celestia. Sadly, everypony in Equestria worships that pathetic wretch like she was a goddess. Well, it’s about time I show everypony how blind to the truth they have been.” Onix hissed, ripping the knife out of the officer’s chest cavity. The officer coughed up trails of blood as he slumped over on the ground, going limp after a few seconds of deathly twitching. Onix snagged the deceased officer’s keys and unlocked his cell doors, freeing himself.

“Hey! Let us outta here!”

“Free us!”

“Come on, let us free!”

Onix glared at the other prisoners, smiling with glee as they desperately pleaded for freedom.

“Sorry, boys. I have business to attend to and I have no time for dilly-dallying. Have a good day.” Onix stated, casually walking out of the hallway. He used his knife to break the magic inhibitor strapped to his horn, slicing the metal device off in a clean swipe. Onix grinned with delight as he was able to feel the rough keratin of his horn once again. As he turned a corner, the unicorn was halted by a couple of what appeared to be rookie officers.

“YOU, STOP RIGHT THERE!” Yelled the female officer. She charged at Onix with a spear in hoof. Onix chuckled to himself as he immediately stabbed his knife into the mare’s throat, kicking the officer into a wall. The second officer tried to attack, but Onix quickly incapacitated the pegasus with a hard kick to the face. With the two guards out of the way, Onix ignited his horn with a crimson aura and fired a massive concussive blast of magic at the front door, incinerating the front entrance and any nearby guards in a huge explosion. The dull crimson unicorn took a moment to breathe in the fresh outdoor scent.

“Ahh, the winds of change. I could feel their soothing embrace already.” Onix said to himself, walking towards the edge of the island, looking down from his perch. Right as he was about to jump, a spear lodged itself right next to the unicorn’s hoofs.

“STOP RIGHT THERE!!!” Yelled a squad of guards. The guards unsheathed their weapons, preparing to open fire at Onix.

“Oh no, it’s the calvary! Whatever shall I do?” Onix mockingly exclaimed. He fired a volley of magic blasts at the guards, dispatching each and every one of them. With a insane bout of laughter, Onix enveloped himself in a magic bubble and lifted himself off of the island, floating away from his former prison.

“So long, losers! Thanks for nothing!” Onix exclaimed, disappearing into the clouds.
