Chapter 1
A young unicorn filly had left her friends and village after deciding she could not take it anymore. The reveal that her best friends Glitter Drops and Spring Rain had been accepted into Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns while she was unable to due to her broken horn was the last straw.
There was nothing for here there.
Still, while she wanted to leave Equestria behind and find something else for her or try to fix her horn, she had wanted to at least get one last close glimpse of the School before leaving.
She was on the hill overlooking the school and sighed at the beauty of it, the young unicorn wondered why she did this to herself. It was nothing more than a reminder of a life she cannot have anymore.
It seemed that life never was fair. She turned to leave but her eyes spied a wolf which she had not seen in person.
Dangerous creatures like this was rare in the forests of Canterlot but it seemed that there was at least one. Panicked the young unicorn ran down the hill wanting to get to saftey.
She made it to the bottom of the hill and looked behind her to see if she lost the wolf but was shocked that it changed target and was now after a purple maned unicorn filly her age. The other unicorn was reading a book while sitting at a tree unaware of the wolf.
Feeling a bit brave the young unicorn pushed the other unicorn out of the way and tried to use any spell against the wolf. Instead a large green blast of magic erupted from her horn.
The blast was enough to scare the wolf away back up the hill. The young unicorn looked the other unicorn and unlike fear like she expected, the other unicorn showed... excitement?
"That was amazing... Wait is there something wrong with your horn?" the other unicorn asked looking a bit curious and the young unicorn sighed sadly.
"It broke when I encounter a beast in a cave while trying to get back the ball my friends and I were playing with..." the young unicorn muttered and the other unicorn looked apologetic.
"I am sorry and thank you for saving me from that nasty wolf, my name is Twilight Sparkle and I was made Princess Celestia's student at the school. I am sure if I took you there, she can have it fixed..." the other unicorn that the young unicorn now knew as Twilight told her.
She made a hopeful look on her face but the hope was dashed when they heard an elegant regal voice say "I am afraid unicorn's horn cannot be fixed like that, my dear student."
The young unicorn was in disbelief as Princess Celestia made herself known, the young unicorn quickly bowed looking like she was unworthy to be in her presence.
But did the Princess herself say that any hope of her horn being fixed was not there?
Then that was it..
" Thank you for saving my student's life like that and I am sorry about the story you told, while I can't have your horn fixed... I can however teach you how to focus on your magic which can be unstable if your horn is broken, especially with raw magic ability like yours. Not as much as my dear student's raw magic was but still I think you can benefit from lessons." Princess Celestia stated with a simple smile which made the young unicorn's heart skip a beat.
Then came the confirmation of what she was hoping for, in the question from Princess Celestia:
"How would you like to study at my school? You can have a place next to Twilight as I give her private lessons?"
The young unicorn jumped with joy, her hopes and dreams for the future restored.
"Can I ask who you are?" Twilight asked realising they never got a name from her.
The young unicorn stopped having been long embarrassed by her name and thought this was her chance to go by a new one. She could come up with the coolest names she could think of and there was nopony to contradict her.
She then stated the single word:
"Tempest."
Princess Celestia got Tempest settled in her own room at the Palace and began to hang out with Twilight. She had her own baby dragon which she had apparently hatched called Spike.
She was a bit scared when she first saw Spike, after the monster (which apparently from books she found in the castle was called an Ursa Major) in the cave and the wolf; she had decided she was about done with dangerous creatures.
Twilight had told her about her older brother Shining Armor who was a cadet in the royal guard. apparently her foalsitter had been Princess Cadence the adopted niece and former apprentice of Princess Celestia herself.
She was in shock and awe at this and wondering if like her, perhaps she and Twilight could one day become princesses themselves.
Then after some time of bonding with Twilight came the day in the Autumn when their first term at the school had started.
Epilogue
Tempest could not get ready fast enough for the day she had been waiting one practically all of her life had finally arrived. She got her things ready and galloped her way to the School.
There were looks and quiet mutterings about her broken horn which made her uneasy but she told herself that she was going to be taught how to use it properly. She did not need to let it get to herself.
She went up to Twilight who was speaking to a unicorn with glasses, "I am sorry to not telling you about her before but this is Moondancer." Twilight said introducing Moondancer to Tempest.
They shared a smile as they shaked hooves and Tempest told her "Hello Moondancer, my name is..."
"FIZZLEPOP!"
Tempest stared in shock and horror as her real name was shouted and looked behind her to see her old friends Glitter Drops and Spring Rain galloping toward her.
"When we heard the other students talking about a unicorn with a broken horn, we knew it had to be you!" Glitter Drops shouted with glee taking Tempest into a deep hug.
"I can't believe you actually made it, now we can all be at the school like we talked about." Spring Rain stated with equal glee at the same time as hugging Tempest.
Tempest sighed as she looked at the confused look from Twilight and told her "these are my old friends Spring Rain and Glitter Drops, yes Tempest isn't my name. I thought I would go with something cooler than... Fizzlepop Berrytwist..."
There were looks from Twilight and Moondancer but soon enough the five were talking as one group of friends as they headed to their first class.
So she was attending Celestia's school with old friends and new.
It seems like things turned out just fine after all...

Honestly, it's cute I admit, but I think this could benefit from being more than just a one-shot. You could easily have gotten a multi-chapter story out of this idea.

Not bad. I caught a few typos here ("nothing for her there" and "when I encountered a beast"), but it's a sound idea. Wish it had been a bit longer, though I did get a kick out of Tempest / Fizzlepop's name being blown at the end, that was clever XD
