This is a story about a sheep. A little sheep, locked deep in prison, put there by ponies. He doesn't want to be there, but then he's had to do a lot of things he doesn't want to. It's a shame he deserves to be in there.

This story is easily the best on this site.
You're one of only 4 authors who have captured my attention for so long, I love this, congrats on being such a great writer!
Hey, I was wondering if the chapter title is a mistake? Is this act 6 or 7?
I love dramatic irony, expecially when done well. Prey being totally dismissed by that fop when he was completely guilty of the crime really gets my goat.
Prey is responsible for the only case the ISND didn't solve, the missing foal case. Let's see if he can go for 2.
Prey will not be happy when/if he discovers Princess Cadence the 3rd Alicorn, and i also doubt he will believe that the sun wolf was defeated in battle.
Side question - What happened to Discord escaping?
Every chapter this story gets better.
Pure Octarine. Magic itself.
Sheesh

That would be kinda funny. All of the unsolved cases were all Prey's doing.
What a very interesting chapter... Changelings stepping up their game. Prey weaving his own plans. And having to deal with unforeseen consequences...
Things continue to be very interesting.
Everybody gangsta until the lamb brings out an atom bomb. Those changelings better be related to cockroaches if you know what I'm saying. ☢
was this last chapter supposed to be 81.7 or 81.6?
Ha, your editor's good but I still found one for my Error Report!
just how much powerHouse Fell actually has."
I'd expect this to be an easy mission throwing off the trail considering just how heavily the ISND lean on Prey, but I have a feeling the the changelings escalating actions will somehow muddle that up. Fingers crossed that it will be Crimson's turn to learn of Prey's dark past, and probably accept it.
What I enjoyed about this chapter is you showed how the nobles were obnoxious and didn’t just tell us. Not only that, you made the characters interact with the nobility in a realistic manner.
While they wanted to retaliate against said noble for his pompous behavior, they knew the consequences were worth more than the satisfaction for doing so.

Nice try, but looking back, that one was added after I made my suggestions (there wasn't a second round of edits this chapter)
The one thing I have missed as far as I know (so far) was the .7 in the chapter title. Something innocuous enough that it's not easily thought of, but not something that is on first glance noticeably wrong either, unless you were making a note to check
imagine a trail of orichalcum leading to the warehouse it was stolen from, like a gunpowder trail in a cartoon. light it from a distance, and each piece creates a room-sized explosion, leading finally to one Giant explosion in the warehouse full of orichalcum
I wonder if prey would be able to kill two birds with one stone?
Find a way to expose the changelings and implicate them somehow with the orc rocks and have the ponies and them duke it out while drawing all attention away from himself.
Can high-level unicorn mage notice dark artifact in Prey's body, and unnatural condition of body itself?
Peaceful chapters somehow feel even more tense than action, with Prey essentially sitting duck and preparing for disaster from unknown angle; I can't even imagine situation where he gets a break from living up to his name.
And can Shimmer tower be related to certain bitchy unicorn from EG?
I do hope Prey eventually ends up sharing the darker true stories of Nightmare Night, or at least hints at what some of them are about.

I doubt it since medical professionals did an in depth medical scan on him and only found his whip scars.
10912840
Why yes, it is supposed to be Arc 6. I have corrected that, thanks.
10912796
Thank you very much.
If I may ask, what are the other great stories? (I want to see if I've read them, or if not, then I'll have some suggestions of what to read!)
10912862
Discord has not happened yet.
The changelings are just active and scouting long before we ever get to the wedding.
10912878
Ha! Yes, someone did get the reference. The Colour of Magic, by Terry Pratchet. 👍
10913020
Heh. That mistake was my fault. There was originally another correction there, and when I corrected the first one, I obviously deleted the 'space' too. 😫
10913385
So far, nobody, or nopony, seems to have picked up on the Jaw of Hearts.
As to the mage tower shimmer, why yes, it might just be relegated. 😁
Something popped into my head.
What if pray and cozy glow met.
They both hate the princesses. There are both manipulative and smart. They got locked up in prison or maximum security by Equestria.
What if they are a power couple.
Well sorry for my stupid comment. and have a nice day.
Edit. if people don't get this I'm shipping.
10913542
That is something that I really did want to do, because it would be hilarious. 😈 But the timeline does just not match up. Cozy does not appear until years later, and after Twilight's ascension. At the moment, Cozy is still in kindergarten at best. 😞
Plus, Cozy and Prey would almost certainly be deadly enemies, because there can only ever be one winner left standing at the bitter end.
IMO, he didn't because he inwardly thought he'd escape soon. Now, he doesn't & so improving his office is more important to him
immedidetly—>immediately
Well, there were nobles in the case… So, I was like 8.7% correct with my prediction haha It seems that in this arch we will finally get two of the oldest pieces of foreshadowing (mage towers [ch21] and House Fell [ch13])
But if Prey solves the case easily, it wouldn’t be enough to be THE theme of the arch… So, since we know that he must give results to Luna, he would need to frame someone else. And knowing that he wants to be a ‘better’ person, I don’t believe that he would incriminate another innocent…
The easy answer would be someone from the List, but it doesn’t seem likely when most of the people on it are part of the Guard… (maybe incriminate house Time? But it doesn’t seem plausible…) I think it would be one of two extremes: either they will solve it in the next chapter or is the most convoluted case in the ISND existence.

10913678
This reminds me of chapter 17, when Prey seemed interested in experimenting with the mind of a little colt… Imagine an AU where Cozy was an experiment by Prey and that’s why she wants to remove magic from other creatures. First removing filthy Unicorn magic, then from magical creatures and finally from artifacts… And we know that sheep don’t have ambient magic, so Prey would not be affected, and the old runes have the interesting ability to always be overlooked, so he may retain them too.
Well, I convinced myself, and this is my new head-canon: Cozy Glow is a sleeper agent created by Prey that would activate if certain conditions were met.
---
Now, with an off topic for the author: I was trying to write everything we know about The List, and it’s harder than I thought… Do you use a real List as reference? To know if it is plausible or not to deduce it from the fic
And what happens when an item is crossed out? For example, we can infer that Captain Valour was among items four and seven, but we also know that people like Snake and Fire Strike are crossed at the top of the List. My current theory is that the item stays in its place, but the number moves to the next one, but it would be great to have a clarification on that.
With all that Prey was able to do with only a pound or so of Electrite it's terrifying to think of what he could do with an entire shipment of orichalcum.
That's one more way he could tear Canterlot off the face of the mountain if he so chose, perhaps he could aerosolize the orichalcum and disperse it all over Canterlot creating a lethal magic absorbing powder that would kill anyone who came into contact with it for centuries, or simply chain react in a ginormous explosion, or use it to simultaneously feed off of the enchantments keeping Canterlot afloat and shear it off the face of the mountain with a BANG!
It's another precaution to ensure Prey's survival that could very easily be turned to destroy a city and kill tens of thousands, we're very lucky Prey's trying to be a better person.
But I think that Prey's going to see if the orichalcums magic absorbing properties can remove his bindings.
10914288
I feel like you were talking about a nuclear bomb or a nuclear warhead one of those two.
But pray should make an orichalcum sword or knife. because it might be the rarest metal. it can Maybe kill an alicorn who knows?
10914288
10914373
It honestly sounds like they're describing a fissile material. Orachlium is a name of a mythical metal that's been adapted in various properties like the Elder Scrolls or Terraria. (Those are the two I remember off the top of my head) But here it seems to me like Orachlium is the name ponies have given Uranium. The boxes are described as lead-lined after all.
The fact that it absorbs magic before exploding isn't a property of Uranium in our world, but that could just be a quirk of the MLP world because magic is just radiation filtered through the wacky otherworldly physics of their reality.
Their world must be super deadly to anything that hasn't evolved to live in a super radioactive environment. (So HiE shenanigans would be very much off-the-table unless anybody's up for some skin-peeling action, but Godzilla might just love Equestria.)
That's my conjecture headcanon, at least.
10913526
Actually, I was referring to a book series, the author is is Erin hunter(group 3-4 people, I think one left a while ago)
I was absolutely obsessed with it as a kid, like 4-5 years ago, I've since lost interest in most books.
So...
You're my favourite author😁
10914373
I figure the real danger here is its magic absorbing properties, not the explosion, I figure it'd be able to both absorb a massive amount of the enchantments holding up canterlot, and use them to cause a massive explosion.
10913542
prey wouldn't trust her she a pony and she one who craves power, besides it way to early in the timeline it at least 5 years before she show up to prey stomping grounds
10913540
So far Prey never visited places where top-tier unicorns hang out. And Luna, despite her vast power and experience, is not the most perceptive pony; when watching Nightmare Night episode of the show, i even assumed she had some residual brain damage from possession.
10914449
Uranium can only last decades in a state refined enough to allow a chain reaction, same with any other fissile material. And even weapon grade stuff will most likely just melt without exploding, if one simply puts critical mass together; would still be extremely deadly tho.
So its either a purely magical phenomenon, or magic does really weird things to nuclear reactions.

'What dastardly plan has Prey got planned?' seems to be the general question and speculation. 🎃 Some really good ideas for maximum damage thrown around there. Of course, nothing in life, especially plans of battle, go as, well... as planned.
Prey is confident and knows of at least some defensive enchantments around Canterlot as just one example.
Like the wind and weather barriers. The city is on the side of the mountain! It should be howling wind all the time, boiling during the day, and freezing at night.
But those are definitely some good ideas. (or bad, depending on how you rate such things)
Ah yes, of course, the 8th color, the octarine, the most interesting thing is that it can only be seen by mages and cats.
Prey isn't a mage... so that's another secret he kept from us eh ?
Nice chapter, Lily wasn't insufferable this time, she grew and it's nice, but I haven't forgotten how she did everything wrong, blasted unicorn.
It almost didn't surprise me he was behind the theft of orichalcum, this time he has the initiative since he can preemptively strike to clear up this mess, one good explosion in the right conditions and they can pretend everything went up in smoke, it's so simple I'm already feeling sorry for him when everything will go wrong, again.
Great chapter, Prey was a little more in the background in this one, Lily and the briefing took the spot, and I'm ready for action.
Thanks Lambs.
I wonder if Prey would like coffee as a means of staying awake, and if so, how he'd like it. Would he take it sweet like candy or bitter?
I know this is random, but which chapter did he give crimson the feather
AH HA HA HA HA HA
10913384
Things would never go that smoothly.
10912796
I find it even more incredible that this is their first story (according to the story desc), so that means they struck gold on their first try!
10915849
Nope, it's goes per individual. Grammatically he's correct, but I wasn't talking about Grammatical rules, I was talking about how easy it is to read.
He may have had a hard time distinguishing between speakers but I didn't have any troubles at all because I could infer them more easily.
Can't wait until Prey runs headlong into canon.
10915692
Seriously, though i would say there definitelyis a lot of talent, it has a lot to do with the idea. While the author certainly isnt lackluster, they’re definitely not the best. But this idea is just so good, and its executed nearly perfectly.
Read on my fellow fan😊
Personal favorite author... period. None are as creative or engaging. He reminds me of Skirts in the day, with originality and pure word-flow.
So Prey is actually the one who started a plan, instead of just reacting or defending. Why do I think the timing means that the actual lord of chaos, Discord is going to make such occasion moot? Prey doesn’t have a record of nice things happening to him.
