This is a story about a sheep. A little sheep, locked deep in prison, put there by ponies. He doesn't want to be there, but then he's had to do a lot of things he doesn't want to. It's a shame he deserves to be in there.

Oh, fuck off Luna.
Just fuck right off, and go die in a fire.
Seriously, is there no way for Prey to arrange for something suitably horrible to happen to her? Because she deserves something horrible to happen to her.
A great chapter, if one that makes me angry at Best Princess.
As always a riveting chapter full of twists and turns. Oh where will the ride end! 😄
And poor little Prey.
How he must have felt to have seen some pony get the chance he and his family never had all because she is supposed to be “special“.
This chapter used my emotions and played ball with them.
10876668
Talk about a knife to the gut. And then twisting. And then ripping and pulling.
So this is what earns the Moon Wolf's place on the list, right next to her sister. It's kinda understandable from her POV; she's ignorant of Prey's drowning, though that is basically her own fault. The whole resurrection thing? It didn't seem like she had that much control over it, and was basically begging Harmony to help out there. But for Prey, that was more than just a slap to the face; it was an insult to his very being. A robbery that took place right in front of him. His entire world view, that the world was unfair to everyone except ponies, just got both usurped and cemented in hard.
He got fucking robbed. The one thing that was true, that death happened and was irreversible, was just thrown out the window for ponies only. Like.... Wow.
I... It's getting hard to see any sort of peaceful resolution to this slow-burning villain scheme. It's looking more and more like it will be an unrivaled massacre.
I can't wait.
I can't even form a proper reaction to this chapter. So many events going on, each time there's this implicit assumption that "this is going to be the last, important thing to happen this chapter", and it just... isn't. It's like the Randy Pickaxe chapter's climax, except the explosive release of tension isn't a scene, it's 3/4ths of the piece.
10876682
Even if Prey misunderstood her intentions, I think she deserves to be on the list.
It would immensely obvious to anyone that they almost drowned Prey in her situation, with him being caked in mud, completely soaked, gasping for air, shivering, being on the bank of a river, and with all his previous urgency of him trying to wake up. You have to be incredibly self-absorbed not to notice. Or incredibly self-absorbed not to apologize. This isn't exactly the first time she's placed his life in danger. She seems to think he owes her his death.
Also she just straight-up admits that she wants to do imperialism. Which I have nothing else to say about. It kind of speaks for itself. A "self-report", as all the cool kids say. That was what the changeling said.
Haha, whoops.
So about Prey turning over a new leaf and trying to be good...
yeah he's probably done with that.
10876692
That was the changeling saying that line, but you are correct about the drowning thing.
>Moments after bringing someone back from the dead:
"Death is irreversable. Everyone has to die when it's their time."
Ffffffffuck off, Best Princess. The ponies deserve what's coming to them. I really hope some truth about Prey's real nature gets leaked in some way, because oh boy we are now so overdue for some recompense that r/Wallstreetbets is starting to buy Prey stock en masse!
10876707
Luna to Prey
"Listen here kiddo, your family isn't special enough to be saved. Now watch me resurrect a party planner."
Really... Every single time. Each chapter finds a way to best the previous chapter. Welp, my hope of Prey ever turning a new leaf has been so thoroughly beaten to the ground that now I don't even know what to expect. If something of Prey's true nature is ever leaked, "Harmony," or whatever bull the world is built upon would have him utterly destroy him.
As Prey says, he's is but merely a weak little lamb in the face of a big, cruel world where the strong take and the weak suffer. Even the tiniest leak of his nature is not an option.
Return Of Harmony, the Elements are in Ponyville. Canterlot Wedding they're in Canterlot.
Does this mean that the wedding occurs before Discord breaks free?
10876741
I may be misremembering, but don't the mane six come to Canterlot, and then Celestia opens the vault and they're gone? Then the elements end up in Ponyville, but that's because Discord put them there to fuck with the mane six? Or I guess just Twilight and Spike at that point.
10876750
10876741
That was my personal understanding, that there Elements were in the Vault and then Discord stole them.
And also, thank you for the correction.
10876682
Quite correct on Luna's point of view about the whole thing. It was a long shot resurrection, and it was Harmony who decided to bring back Pinkie Pie in the end, not Luna's power. Because the mane 6 have plot armour. I mean, have you seen how much 'stupid' they have? And how they survive and get away with it? Plot Armour I tell you!
But that is cold, pitiless comfort to Prey. 😞
10876750
10876757
Maybe so. It's been quite a while since I watched the episode. I just remember that they had to return to Ponyville to get them
I don't even know what to say.
I feel the need to comment something, to say something, a nagging feeling that I have words that need to be shared. But I lack the words.
Every attempt to form a coherent train of thought fails. I have many things to describe, to say, yet none at all.
So many things happened this chapter that I want to talk about, so many ever hanging opinions, theories, thoughts. That I can't even bring myself to put them to words, nothing feels adequate, nothing I can write will do it justice. Not now and maybe not ever.
But know this, this chapter was incredible way beyond my ability to describe. As always I'm hungry for more.
10876696
10876728
Quite. In the story of the progress of Prey, it's very much:
"One step forwards, two steps back. Then another two back for good measure."
It is currently 6am, after a full shift of warehouse work. I am dead tired and can barely string sentences together. But I simply must say it was worth it to read this chapter, to witness you making my cold dead heart beat with hate, still with shock, and roar in fury. This chapter epitomizes why your story is one of a handful that makes me even bother with this site anymore.
A Glorious chapter of wasted wishes, shattered dreams, and old scars freshly renewed. Can't wait to see how you try and top this one.
I really have to wonder if this story will break the main show timeline at any point. It's looking so far, that nothing in this story is impacting the mane 6 aside from what happened in this chapter, but then was passed away as something that didn't impact the shows story.
So the real question is, what will Prey accomplish? He is a background character at best to the mane 6. So will anything he does, or anything he accomplishes leave an impact? I hope that Prey gets his way. I either hope that he survives, or gets revenge, or causes the change he wants, and not just because he is 'right' to do so, but because DAMN do I want to see his villainy reach its peak. His story and character and motivations are just so interesting, that i can't help but cheer for the little guy to get what he wants, even as evil or wrong as it may be.
Holy fucking shit, this story is better than any piece of literature I have ever read. (sorry KKSlider even better than yours)
Do you have a crypto wallet adress or something that I can send a tip to?
This chapter was just... Incredible
10876782
That would be spoilers 😉
For me, I'm just excited to see where it will go- if it does or doesn't
Luna should taste the big boom in the sky
Seems the ol' mimic boyo from last chapter has gone and told his friends what's what.
Then... kablooey. I wonder where we've seen this before-
It seems the impostor is sus
god forgive meThe Mimic definitely knew when Prey was about to kill him, or knew he was about to do something dangerous. What with them having found to be organising, or at least facilitating the theft of the elements, perhaps they had intended to pod two ponies with one chrysalis and cut off the entire high-command of a military force they have no sway or spies in, while simultaneously blaming it on the griffins to further their goals of war? It might be that just the sheer fact they were mostly away on a mission that saved them, and the mimic being unwilling to risk leaving a corpse by potentially being unable to set it off in time, or him breaking morale the only thing that saved Prey from fiery demise.
10876712
Darn, there's always one...
Well Luna hasn't been putting any points into Wit or Perception I see, this stat imbalance is only gonna last so long before she ignores something that's gonna cost her dearly. Otherwise I would personally put her life in the hands of the Kerbil Space Program and wait for the inevitable boom, cause ignoring nearly killing Prey will bite her.
also I hope Prey does this to Canterlot at one point Stealth Exo Force Ref

I've never been so fucking mad at a Princess in any story before, this isn't like the paranoid Celestia of twilight's nightmare, who merely believed the ends justified the means, or the common ignorant overconfident princess of many stories trusting in the power of hArMonY facing consequences of their ignorance.
No, this is sheer ARROGANCE! The thought that she's superior to everything in every way! That they're all nothing but ants to her, stupid mindless drones to be talked down to and ignored, meanwhile Prey nearly fucking died and she assumed she committed no wrongdoing simply because he saved HIMSELF!!
This is thousands of years of sheer arrogance and I Hate her, she got away with it through sheer power and coincidence.
I Hate Luna in this chapter SO much and it's genuinely incredible how you've made me feel this way, I've never genuinely hated someone in a story like this, she's so self righteous that she shoved Prey out of her way like a piece of trash right off a path of self improvement and reflection, literally drowned him, and set him nearly right back to square One!
I bet this is why later in the show Pinkie Pie's hair goes flat and she looses a screw, I think she's likely traumatized from this.
Perhaps it'll be like a PTSD flashback, or manic episode, but I don't think she could get stabbed in the brain and simply come out unaffected.
My Actual reaction to pinkie getting stabbed and Luna's bullshit magic spell:
i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/012/175/dissapointed.jpg
Luna couldn't even put it together that she nearly drowned Prey in the river? Damn...
Great chapter... How long until Prey warns against the Mimics? Or will he try to handle it himself?
10876977
I honestly wonder if he would maybe try to help the changelings now.
"I don't care if you win, I just want them to lose." Or something along those lines.
10876977
more likely just let them be, so they hurt ponies
10876989
10876985
Prey is a survivor. While he does want revenge, he doesn't want to die. And getting caught by Luna holding back on things like this would kill him. He also has to consider his own survival, he has enough evidence now that the Changelings know about him in particular and might target him.
Plus, he still cares about Crimson. Who would be harmed potentially by the mimics!
At any rate, I think this is going to get VERY interesting in the next few chapters.
This is how you take a likeable character and believably make them someone who isn't likeable. Luna here is still the same luna from the show to the ponies, aloof, a bit detached, but with their best interest at heart. Luna, to prey who sees through the goddess worship, is a sociopath megalomaniac with the power to put an end to many of the evils in the world, but doesn't because of arrogance and the fact that many of those evils are not affecting her little ponies. She's become so detached from 'mortals' that she doesn't even recognize the signs of *drowning*. Goddamn this story needs to get made into a damn book after it's complete as it's one of those fanfics that could stand on its own regardless of if it was in that specific universe or not.
10877000
true bit i think seeing Luna resurrect pinkie but refuse to bring back his family will push him over the edge, and i think his hate has affected Selenia's pincushion
Ugh, Luna...
The entire city must be purged
uh oh :( i cried when prey started begging luna. fimfiction author lambs prey you really know how to write an emotional scene
There is no 'right' or 'wrong'. There is no 'justice', or 'revenge'.
Only the Strong gets to dictates its rules to the Weak, and punish those who stray from their views and self righteous morales.
10876977
I think its less that she couldn't put it together and more that she thinks she can do no wrong. It seems like she's literally incapable of entertaining the notion that she might not know whats best in any given situation, and it takes someone bashing her over the head with it until she maybe, kinda admits wrongdoing. (But doesn't apologize, because that's for plebs.) Like she did when she blew out Prey's ears with the Royal Canterlot Voice.
Gotta say it but you write character conflict beautifully.
So many times Prey could’ve just said ‘I’m drowning’ ‘he’s a fake’ ‘changling are behind this’ but just like if Prey were to lash out in anyway at Luna it’s suicide. It goes against his rule number 2; survive. They’d dig deeper and start asking Prey some tough questions.
The seed of doubt really has grown, petrifying Prey with paranoia and indecision, now borderline mental break down. Think these new events are far more scarring than the warlock ever did, and Luna wasn’t even trying to.
Prey won’t last much longer, and I think the masks he still must wear will be too heavy for him.
10877078
I think you struck the nail on the head there. I hadn't considered that viewpoint... but it seems accurate considering the things we have seen from Luna.
Hmm, upon rereading this chapter (because I was too annoyed with Luna the first time 'round,) I gotta say, this part of the author's note:
It stands out as a bit incongruous. You literally had someone die, and then they got back up moments later. If it only happened long enough for a handful of people to be affected, did it meaningfully happen at all? It was already pretty well established that bad things can and do happen to our protagnists, so the message this whole instance sends isn't "anyone can die", but rather "only redshifts die". And our boy has the reddest of shirts, what with all the blood.
And again, because a second reading did not improve my opinion of her: get fucked Luna.
10877072
“When you vote, you are exercising political authority, you’re using force. And force, my friends, is violence. The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived”
-Starship Troopers
Okay a couple of things...
1- What if this patchwork reality or whatever you want to call it, that the pin cushion uses, is actually Discord's home and that's why it feels so wrong.
2- Over 1,000,000 words done and I still have no idea how this will end... but i would guess the final chapter will be a cliffhanger.
3- I don't know if they were used before but now we know that the trackers work.
4- I think Prey's hatred for Luna is now equal to his hate of Celestia.
5- I wonder if Prey will be able to convince one of his teammates that the Princess(es) are not all that good.
Wow.
Just wow.
I didn't think you could match chapter 47, but you managed. This is now tied with 47 for my favorite chapter in this story so far. Bravo. Seriously, bravo.
Prey giving into emotion instead of logic, Pinkie getting shanked, the desperate struggle to not drown while Luna doesn't listen, the whole scene with the revival, *chef's kiss* all of it just combines into one awesome piece of literature. I can't wait for what comes next.
10876692
I actually assumed that Luna realized what she'd done and held off on the apologies because she had bigger fish to fry. I was angry at Luna here, sure, but this chapter also showed that she's not the unfeeling sociopath Prey makes her out to be. She got choked up and had to look away when Prey started crying; that's not something the Moon Wolf would do. Of course, Luna isn't able to give Prey the type of apology to calm him down because that would require her to drop her royal persona and humble herself, and she is not willing to do that as of now. Plus, Celestia would have to show genuine remorse, purge the Border Guard, and explain a lot of state secrets that she's too paranoid to let go for Prey to be able to somewhat cool his hate for her too.
This chapter made me feel sick. It's become a lot harder for Prey to become a better person, and I'm afraid he'll make some terrible mistakes before he can get back to that point. I want a happy ending for this fluffy little sociopath, dang it! Not revenge, not escape, but a genuinely happy ending so that his life isn't a Shakespearian tragedy. I believe that it is both possible and that we'll get one, but as I predicted, we're gonna have to walk over a lot of broken glass to get it, so to speak.
Bravo, Lamb's Prey.
Wow that was a rollercoaster. Is the pincushion still gonna be useful for prey? So far its saved him but it almost just seems like terrible luck that he could have "died" in the first place that way. Prey actually cared if the ponies went to war but at the end there doesn't seem to be any of that left. Will he end up improving as a character and having a happy ending or will he have a bad end I still wonder.
10877113
Okay a couple of things...
1- I doubt it.
2- If that happens i'll throw the author off a cliff.
3- They were used on the train ride back from prey's old home.
4- Maybe, but keep in mind that Prey kinda blames Celestia for the actual deaths of Prey's mother and brother.
5- Gonna be hard with that life long indoctrination.

To everyone who hates Luna in this story: "Well, at least it's better than her just being lukewarm and forgettable, right?"
-But seriously, is Luna a villain? From Prey's PoV, yes, but not because she's evil. Because she's an arrogant, all-powerful, alicorn!
-Is Prey a villain? From an objective point of view, yes, yes, and yes.
What about the mimics? Are they just doing what they can to not starve? Or because Chrysalis says so? Or are the ponies of Equestria the uncaring villains of this story because of all they enable simply by their way of life? Just some rambling musings to think over. Not too sure where I was going with this, actually...
10877099
Y'know, I really should read the authors note's more often, seems like there is a lot of good stuff in there.
Anyone, that's a word encompassing a lot of people, everyone actually, including Alicorns, including Luna.
Now, I could be interpreting this wrong but this might be a big piece of information.
