This is a story about a sheep. A little sheep, locked deep in prison, put there by ponies. He doesn't want to be there, but then he's had to do a lot of things he doesn't want to. It's a shame he deserves to be in there.

Managed to catch this one early!
Being teased with the elements of harmony and Preyβs future moves keeps me eager for more, good work as always.
This griffin spouting facts
Welp.. the griffons be dumb.. well intentioned, but dumb. Also explains the gems now.
Cliffhangers cliffhangers.... damnit... I am really curious about how far this story will diverge from canon.
He is right you know.
Looks like that alternative universe tag may start coming into play. Without the Elements of MacGuffin lots of problems like Discord are going to get tricky.
10838505
I honestly think the plan to steal them will fail. So many things would go wrong otherwise.
But how would it fail? Will Twilight notice something is up? Will Luna suddenly call upon Prey, forcing him to abandon his plots and theft?
I thought the griffins wanted the elements for the Blood Feather Plague or something but from his given reasoning, Ambassador Felyawn is... dare I say it... based and redpilled on the Alicorn Question.
10838496
Well, who knows if it really has divulged from the general canon of mlp, as this most of this could have happened and have been extremely well covered up by celestia and her government, how else do you forget about a large (or so it seems) civil war within the borders of your own country and all the accounts of guards who managed to make it back home alive, as well as the families of those who weren't as lucky
10838509
I think the plan may succeed, but in that case, Discord will appear before the griffons can get the element out of the country. Forcing a diplomatic crisis where Equestria has to either convince or force the Griffonian embassy to return the element ASAP.
New chapter was awesome too
Heβs technically not wrong.
10838530
That highly depends on how much time has passed between each episode, cause depending on that factor, as it could still be a good amount of time till discord emerges
Awesome! Thanks for the chapter. Nice art!
10838534
Yeah, but the timeline is quite unclear anyway so the author can make Discord happen whenever by this point. And I think that putting Prey on the spot of having to somehow communicate to the Lunar Guard that the griffons have the element, without revealing how he knows that, while at the same time surviving Chaos, would make for a fun way of dealing with him.
I can't believe you're approaching 1,000,000 words, in a month or two you're literally going to have written more horse words than there are words in every Harry Potter book Combined!
I feel you did a good job representing how Nobility end up so arrogant and self centered, they aren't born that way, they're raised that way.
10838509
On one hand the big moves in this story always go off the rails, on the other hand remember the Thestrals have that prophecy. I think Discord will probably be a bigger deal than in canon.
always found it funny no other nation took exception to celestia keeping her sister return and the eternal night crisis from them, even if here it just a excuse to steal a weapon from another nation, which in itself is stupid because celestia controls the sun you dont mess with a ruler who control the sun
I think this is going to lead into Prey meeting one or two of the mane six like the author said they may be planning a while ago. The question is how they're going to maneuver their story to avoid explicitly breaking the canon like the story so far has strictly adhered to avoiding.
I think it's interesting how the story uses canonicity to its advantage. Sticking religiously to fitting into the canon isn't a virtue and I wouldn't care about deviations minor or major, the story should always pursue the most interesting and creative set of events it can. However, there is merit in using the canon to create certain unique properties in the story. The way this story handles the canon creates three main things I can identify: 1) It creates the sense of an entire world of shady dealings existing right underneath our nose the entire time. 2) It makes Prey feel small like he's a pest scurrying around between the feet of giants. 3) You can make fun of the canon material diegetically.
10838475
To be fair, they have good reasons just a lack of information.
Something Celestia shoulda sorted out beforehand so other nations don't feel like she's influffing insane. AT THE LEAST she coulda had the elements researched by other nations in a controlled and safe environment to help them realize that its not a good idea to try any shenanigans against the elements and their wielders.
I was suddenly obsessed with the image of Prey, tiny little precious Prey, in a huge suit of armour.
I would laugh so hard if prey goes through with this and walks in and out with zero issue, all the while second guessing himself the whole way.
10838509
honestly prey just make fakes and then mind control some random pony to alert celestia and in the process make her know what Luna up to both solving this crisis and getting crimson back and making Luna face the sun wolf, it solves all the problems by washing prey hoofs of it and get a petty revenge of Luna violating prey mind
10838573
That would be cute
10838529
It wasn't large- it was a band of a few thousand rebels, maybe ten thousand or so at most, on Equestria's borders, and the fighting took place on the frontiers. Prey and his family might have been Equestrian civilians, but I doubt they were citizens as they lived outside the border. It's why they were fighting the Border Guard, rather than another branch of the Royal Guard. Prey hasn't mentioned any raids, strikes, or even attempted raids or strikes at targets within Equestria itself.
Ten thousand by the way sounds like a large number, but if Equestria's the size of France and the weaponry and technology is roughly equivalent to the Hundred Years War, then it's about the lower estimate for the French army at the Battle of Agincourt. Which, granted, the French lost, because whilst smaller the English army had incredibly effective archers.
10838635
Yes, but you have to consider the news coverage from this event, if it was not suppressed or the horrific tales of the survivors as seen in one of the recent chapters which would have caused some debate, or even influence certain genres of fiction or perhaps even have fiction created about it. There is a whole range of other topics the civil war could have influenced simply by the tales of the veterans. Theres a larger picture to all of this
... aw man, I'm totally drinking Felyawn's kool aid right now. Even knowing what I do about the show, and that this whole thing is gonna end in failure, I still think he's got the right idea.
10838635
IIRC, In this fic EQ is under 20 million.
I'm not sure if the guard's weapons are ceremonial or front line tech. They do have the tech to build guns.
sharp polished cpoints estlessly picking at the wooden tabletop, (ooh a double!)
Ooh I love it when the 'villain' of a piece is out and out right. I'm also loving how both Prey and the gryphons are coming to two different but similar conclusions about things. And that bit about Prey's hatred and fear of Celestia leading him to be unwilling to think that she could be so foolishly emotional *chief's kiss* THIS is the reason why I still visit this site.
Who's gonna tell him?
WOO ANOTHER UPDATE
The only big question left to answer is: How do the griffins know that the Elements are in Ponyville? And with enough information to even have a drawing? Could there be more spies? Because that would be another way for Prey to stop the complot: if he knows who the spy is, he could 'find' (make) evidence and report it to the Night Guard, interrogate him and 'discover/deduce' the plan to steal the Elements. After all, trying to catch new spies was one of the tasks given to him.
10838559
Well, there were some minor canon violations throughout the fic and I'm not just referring to the current locations of the elements (because that's something we're not sure about yet). For example, the sonic rainboom (S01E16) occurs in chapter 57 (arc 4) while the Gala (S01E26) happens at the end of Arc 3. That is not possible if we are strictly following canon because in the Gala, Spitfire remembers that RD won the Best Young Flyer Competition.
That detail is something that I noticed in my last rereading, and it may further prove that the fic's chronology differs from the show. An example that is easier to see is that if winter has not yet arrived, then Winter Wrap Up (S01E11) has not happen either. In other words, is very likely that in the fic we are at The Running of The Leaves (S01E13) even when the Gala already happened.
This can be important because if the timelines are different, Discord could show up after Nightmare Night (S02E04). And we are all theorizing believing in his imminent arrival, which might not be the case.
10838515
The alicorn question? What is the premise of that might I ask?
10838848
Mama' Mia! *Italian cooking noises* "My dish was not perfect! It must be fixed!"
(As in, thank you for the correction π)
10838544
Huh. Well. How about that? π Feels weird. (Is that how many words are in the Harry Pottter's I'm guessing?)
10838472
10838475
10838502
10838533
π¦ I like to think that at least one other nation out there in the entire MLP world would kinda' be sorta' concerned about all the sudden influx of ancient threats to the whole world suddenly reappearing, and only reappearing in Equestria.
10838559
I like point 3) there. Yes, doing that can sometimes be fun. π I'm looking forwards to writing the next... 1? 2? Probably number 2 chapter after this one. Then we will get to see cannon 'broken' a bit more. For a given definition of broken.
10838465
Thanks, and although shorter, quite a bit of importance happened in this chapter, yes.
10839031
What do you do when immortal super beings actually exist and do not share your or your people's collective interests? In fact because these gods patronize an entirely different species and nation it is inevitable conflict will arise between themselves and your group. However, because one of them literally raises the Sun, your group will eternally never have true independence because you cannot exist without them.
Every nation and species in this story is a dependent of Equestria. I remember earlier in this story Prey was admiring the Deer Holt because of their self sufficiency. But they could not survive without Celestia's consent, so they are de facto under her rule. Would any country of Earth be content to have a ruler of a foreign nation have total control of their entire food and energy supply?
Ambassador Felyawn is taking actions that could give griffins actual freedom. If his plan is successful he will be the liberator of the Griffins and a national hero for them. With the superweapons able to defeat gods, it would give them barging power and funnily enough create for the first time ever, some sembeliace of Harmony and balance of powers.
An immortal alien tyrant with good intentions is still an immortal alien tyrant.
Aha! There it is! Cant wait to read this on lunch break tomorrow.
Hmm hmm.
There's too much concentration on blue eyes, where did I see them huh ?
Nice chapter, I wonder how this will turn out, for now there's a huge effort into not breaking canon, to the point where the main characters aren't explicitly named, so unless there's an "unfortunate setback" they'll have to go there.
This triple agent act will have to drop at some point, I'm waiting for it.
Good chapter, as usual.
Seems that Lemon's limits are becoming more and more of an issue for the things Prey needs her to achieve. I wonder when he'll make good on his idea to improve that with rituals... come to think of it, that may be what he needed the unicorn horns for from the morgue corpses
I think she was mentioned as a tier 2? At some point in terms of raw power, with Shining Armour mentioned as a six if I can recall it well. I wonder what tier she will end up as.
10838581
So I just...walked in and picked them up. And I Kinda...walked out? Then caught a train?

By the way, did you draw the cover?
10839457
You mean the thumbnail picture for the Story? If you mean this one, then yes. If not this one, then which one do you mean?
i.imgur.com/kGKy7j9.jpg
10839484
Yes, I meant the thumbnail. I would also like to say that art is very good and well-drawn.
10839492
Thanks Yes that one I did, and there are quite a few people who have done their own Prey and a Lamb artworks too now, which are quite a bit better too.
10839676
Where could I find those?
10839746
Where there is a picture, I've included a link in the authors notes, and credited who it was by. There aren't pictures in every chapter, but if you scroll back through you should be able to find them easy in the Notes. π
