This is a story about a sheep. A little sheep, locked deep in prison, put there by ponies. He doesn't want to be there, but then he's had to do a lot of things he doesn't want to. It's a shame he deserves to be in there.

Oh no! another cliffhanger nooo!
Only one error to report: ""You needed to be told?
I will say Gloom showing up was a bit of a surprise, as is Prey apparently having removed him from the list. Still a pleasant if short chapter, by this story's standards.
Tune in next time to learn that Lemon has made a friend of her own! Oh and Merry Christmas or something.
Randomly refreshing my page at 2am and seeing this pop up in my tracking feed be like:
i.ibb.co/GQMKyP2/2p1wxg.jpg
And Prey is a total tsundere for treating Gloom like that instead of outright killing him. You can't change my mind.
P.S: Merry Christmas! Take a good break, you hear me! Relax and enjoy the holidays with friends and family!
Say that one three times fast
Happy belated Yule. It's nice to see Gossamer slowly come back from the dead, inside the mind of Prey. The softness that is starting to form is evidence of that.
Anyway, lamb words are good words... Now I'm hungry.

Prey is 100% pining for someone to understand him. He's taking so many risks to make friends and get people to understand him, Gloom's the second person to be told all of this.
He really needs someone to talk to. I wonder if Lemon will be that someone, or if it will be Crimson. Boy, Crimson finding out is going to be a very fun chapter.
10597420
Perfect timing.
10597514
I agree. When Prey told the psychiatrist, I first suspected it was his way to unload. To tell someone without telling anyone. But now with him telling gloom, I'm convinced he's somewhere deep inside hoping and searching for someone who will understand him.
This was an amazing end to the Arc, finally the clamp on his heart comes back around to being relevant, and of course Glooms mysterious talent shows him in this direction. He did remove those memmories, but i believe it also served as an important lesson for Prey, despite glooms reaction, he was never hostile with Prey during it, so perhaps this will help if he finally reveals some secrets to Crimson.
As for the ending, cant wait to see what Lemon has been hiding, and how their relationship will develop.
The important thing we learned in this chapter is that Crimson likes black liquorice.
Clearly, the true monster of this story has been Crimson all along.
That was worth the wait. The story is amazing.
I know what you did there.
We all know...
And we are all shivering from anticipation and hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia.
Merry Christmas! Have a good one everyone.
The only thing I will question is this, if the brain doesn't get any oxygen for 5-10 minutes then major damage can occur so even just a few minutes of no air can be damaging especially for someone who's greatest tool is his mind. So how long was Prey dead for and will there be brain damage or is magic the answer?
Cute picture.
Also good chapter, this threat is over for now, I wonder what will happen next.
Always a good chapter, merry merry everyone.
Really, this is one of the few stories that entirely removes me from reality sometimes. Thanks for the work!
This is a great Christmas gift. Merry Christmas to all!
If what Lemon has been hiding isn't a friendship scrapbook, I'm going to be very disappointed.
Also, many thanks for the Christmas present!

Around a minute or two. Not enough to cause serious brain damage.
His mind must have decreased in performance from 120% to 115%.
Because him mind is his most reliable tool.
Similar to an athlete whose aptitude has reached around 130% of the average human capabilities.
Prey is still a master among few in his field.
By god, a new chapter one day early and on christmas!

Bloody hell!, I had totally forgotten that he had that bloody thing in him!.
10597806
That's the thing about this story, if it get's brought up it very likely will matter in the future.
Damn, the slave is breaking chains and is even more terrified of her master than before... just how long was that barrier up?
Also, reading "What have you been hiding from me, Lemon Pink?" While looking at that picture... total terror vibes... yeesh
Twas a fine chapter, and a nice Christmas present to boot. Holiday cheers
10597626
Just a few minutes. Once Lemon saw that the last person was 'out', whether that be dead or unconscious, she dropped the barrier and rushed in. Not everyone suffocates at the same pace, after all. 💀

"Until next time!" As I said, the next chapter I plan to be a bit different. It will finally answer some of the Lemon Pink questions. 😇

Thanks, as always. Now fixed. Merry Christmas too.

🎄 Seasonal greetings, to you too. 🎄
And thanks, glad you enjoyed.
Great thing to wake up to! Very excited for more.
This story is like a big pile of dangerously stacked chekhov's guns.
Thanks for the chapter! It was great!
Merry Christmas!

I concur the author is a master of story weaving
Prey is a small animal so he does not need as much oxygen as most. So he probably died for maybe a minute but even if he was dead longer i’m sure his mind is protected by something. Maybe by other runes. he has done it once why not again?
p.s. My guess for Lemon maybe a mother arc of some sort. After all that’s a mother’s job to protect and nurture their child. In her case it’s probably a good bit twisted but not out of the realm of possibility.
Prey: "I can finally rest without things getting worse tonight."
Gloom:

What if... what if Luna ends up filling that role? It's just a thought, but it sorta makes sense, and it would be the epitome of irony. Think about it: not only can she personally relate to him on some level (she almost destroyed the world twice, nearly everyone hates her, she may or may not have done messed up stuff before her banishment, she has no one she can truly relate to, and Prey is probably one of the only people who fears her for reasons other than her having been Nightmare Moon. Not to mention the fact that they both have mind powers, and she'd probably get a kick out of Prey hating Celestia more than her), but she also has political reasons to keep his true nature under wraps (if anyone found out that she let a murderous mind leech into her guard, not even Celestia could save the Night Guard and what minuscule credibility Luna still has).
If she were to find out, she may decide it would be in her best interest to keep him under wraps and on a tight leash rather than rain hellfire upon him. I'd say she'd just straight up kill him, but two factors might prevent her from doing that. First, having him under her direct control would give her one heck of an asset. Second, she's likely desperate for someone to relate to in any way. Plus, it's been somewhat implied that Luna views morality somewhat differently than modern ponies, so that might also contribute to her decision. I can see her giving him an ultimatum similar to this: "Do as I say and I won't kill you. If you're ever caught for something, deny that I know anything and you won't be killed." And since Prey doesn't want to die, he'd likely say "Okay."
They likely wouldn't be friends, but they could become frenemies who rant at each other every night in the dreamscape.
Just a thought, not sure how much merit there is to it. Might not fit the story, but it could be the plot of a humorous non-canon one shot.
Just a note, blood wouldn't exactly spray from a jugular wound in any case, as it's a veinous bleed and is under way less pressure than you need for that. An arterial bleed, like severing a carotid though? That sprays bright red like the movies.
As for the magical literal version of the jaws of life, I had figured those would come into play. It is a good thing Prey didn't suffer brain damage, as it can take a while for oxygen perfusion to get better even with CPR and adequate bloodflow. But hey, alive is alive, and now we know Crimson likes licorice. The psychopath.
I wonder when or if Prey will get some cute little glasses to wear. Oh and of course RIP bug, hope she at least get a posthumous Oscar for 'best slaughter.'
Edit: I've said it many times before but this might be my favorite story I've ever read anywhere (and I've read four books this week). The pacing, storyline, and themes are a cup of tea brewed just for me (if I liked tea) and it genuinely is probably the best part of my week 26 times a year. An author who can weave a tale like this without a wasted element anywhere in its length and with this dedication is someone I wholeheartedly respect. It's just so damned good I can't really put it into words.

Your size has little to do with how long you can survive without oxygen. Here everybody should lower their oxygen concentrations essentially symetrucally with the decrease on atmospheric oxygen. In a given amount of air a smaller creature will last longer, but dumped in an anoxic tub of gas the only thing that might keep you alive longer than another living thing is better anaerobic capacity. Even that won't last you very long before your cells cannot respirate and run out of energy and muscles cannot move anymore. Body cells will die in about ten minutes, neurons about three. Good thing Prey is a runner and his heart doesn't need base cellular functions to work, otherwise such deprivation is generally not super survivable.
That's not to mention of course that the problem here is likely less oxygen deprivation and more CO2 and CO poisoning. Of course, who knows? The fire cast in the bubble could have consumed a lot of oxygen without producing any CO2 or CO; it is magic. If we're 100% real there was nothing to oxidize anyway and unicirns can throw intense radiation at people. Fuckers.
A great Christmas present, in another awesome chapter!! The foreshadowing about how he should've scrounge around in glooms mind is intriguing! Keep up the good work

I wholeheartedly agree with that final sentiment. This isn't the best my little pony fanfiction I've ever read, this is the best story I've ever read full stop. I'm a horribly impatient reader so I'll often skip straight to dialogue and ignore huge swathes of the material, but not for this, for this I read every single word. And it's not from some sense of obligation due to the story being amazing, although it certainly is, but because there isn't a single word wasted. Every sentence is either plot-relevant or expresses an interesting idea, most often both. This story has 800,000+ words already, and it honestly just couldn't be any shorter. It's not really a secret that practically every chapter ends with a cliffhanger- at least it feels that way-, but it dawned on me that if you were to collect the whole story in one long document and then to split it evenly into any number of chapters by the scene, you'd probably end up with just as many cliffhangers proportionally. That's because every time a chapter ends I want to read the next one, because whenever a scene ends I want to read the next one.
Merry Christmas and thanks for update

Thank you very much for saying so. It is appreciated. And as you say, R.I.P. the veropede. May her insectile soul find rest in centipede heaven. 😇
10598644
Sounds about right, yeah. At least it wasn't Crimson, though. How would Prey have handled that? Would he have handled it...?
10598856
True size may not be a major factor in his survival but we are talking about someone who survived for years in the jungle. it is possible that there may have been times he had to hold his breath for long periods of time when hiding. So he may have very disciplined lungs.I just figured tiny lungs tiny body less air needed to survive.
10597783
IMO, she's gotten a friend that she didn't tell Prey about.
