This is a story about a sheep. A little sheep, locked deep in prison, put there by ponies. He doesn't want to be there, but then he's had to do a lot of things he doesn't want to. It's a shame he deserves to be in there.

Update... Nice.
Always a joy to read about Prey and his stoic pragmatism. More success in their job will hopefully justify Lunas suicide squad in everyone's eyes. Hell, Prey might actually get some enjoiment out of busting two bit pony thugs
I do wonder when Prey will decide that runes are probably save to use, or not
oh prey, overestimating your enemy can just be as damaging as underestimating one, he has the alicorns on such a high pedestal he blind to who they really are, and it paralyzing him from taking action that benefit him in the long run
just hope your story can be finished. and not die like other stories

Quite. All Prey knows is the views he's carried with him since the Resistance. Celestia is the focus of everything in Equestria he hates. And fears.

Glad that you like. π It is a slow building story, so there is a lot of what Prey's thinks, feels, and how he views the world. And the world is not to be trusted in any way, shape, or form. Prey will do whatever he thinks is necessary to stay alive. Nothing more, nothing less. π
Wait, is that actually a real thing? Because if so, then I finally understand why I am the way I am.
I wander if Prey would spontaneously combust out of anger, if he learned just how flawed the alicorns are
I hope someone tells Prey that libraries are a thing at some point
Absolutely glorious story, one of the best fics I've read

Hello, π
If that was a genuine inquiry, then yes, it can be one of the side effects.
Unless children have a variety of conversation displayed to them, they will be limited in what they have experience with. Don't have experience? Then don't know how to deal with it and clam up. (I am generalising here)
Sub-consciously they expect everyone to think the same (meaning thinking what they are thinking in response to a situation), which is why they get frustrated when someone is 'Too stupid to understand'. π€

I do.
I wonder what it is that Prey fears about seeing his reflection. Is it part of the curse? Is his appearance much different when viewed from a mirror, and can others see it? Will whatever is inside him attempt to take over his mind, or even switch bodies if he looks directly at it?
I really can't wait to see more of Prey's abilities come to light, and whether they will be seen by his unwary "comrades" or not - as well as how they'll react. I also truly wonder how the Princesses would react to the truth, and if Celestia even knows about what happened during the Resistance War. Prey's an abomination, but considering what he's been through...the Equestrians at least need a wake-up call as to how such a being would come to exist. I also wonder if Prey will ever stumble upon Cadence. Perhaps meeting a weaker and confirmed ascended alicorn like her would help him see that the alicorns aren't the infallible goddesses he thinks they are...and for better or worse, that they can and will make mistakes he can exploit.
...I wonder what it'd be like for him to meet a Changeling? Would their minds be protected? Would he have access to the Hivemind (if there is one in this story)? Would he be immune to their emotivore nature, or even be seen as a monster by them? Would he constantly be fighting a battle of the minds with one of them around? I can't wait to see future developments!

Um, yikes, well, that's a lot of good points and questions. π
But most are spoilers about what is going to happen. Or not happen! Keep you guessing. πΆ
SO about the Changelings *MmphmmnnPHH*, and Candance *Muffled noises* and the mirror *Mmhnnngghh*, the curse and Prey, *grmmphmPmMPH!*
SPOILERS NOT ALLOWED!
I guess I'll just say; it's a slow build story, I have tonnes still planned to include, with a lot of character development. So eventually stuff might happen..... π
Going through a reread of Prey and A Lamb, and it blows my mind how you set so much up before revealing it. All these small details that are so very easy to miss, and yet there they are.

Already re-reading? Whoa, that's commitment, I'm flattered. And thanks, I like to think that every single thing I put into the story has a point, either set up, world building, or adding to the current issue Prey and the others is facing. I do try. π

This is without a doubt the best story I've read on this site. And the number of books that I've enjoyed more I can count on one hand.
That, and when I binge read I miss quite a lot of details, so going back and rereading is a much slower, relaxed experience. After all, why ask myself "why did the character do this" when I can just click next chapter?
I find his constant paranoia hilarious.
How long is he going to expect attack, and nothing comes?
Iβm absolutely loving this, and the interactions between the trio are very much drawing parallels in my mind to shows like NCIS and the like, which is awesome. This is a seriously well written story.

The best lies are based of truth, and all that... π
Rune?
Back in more innocent times I thought that Luna and Prey would bond with some casual 'asymmetric solutions' and the story would go into way different direction as they find old solutions to new problems. Maybe going with some "Princess beyond the border" route.
