Spike has been sent to the Crystal empire to host an important ceremony, but when he tries to return to Ponyville, things get complicated, it seems that something or someone is trying to keep Spike away from Ponyville by any means, meanwhile, Rarity is trying to process her feelings towards Spike while some important ponies from Canterlot and Manehattan try to gain her love.
Will Spike return home before is too late? Will Spike have the courage to finally tell her his feelings? Or the ponies from outside will steal her heart before him?

and that being said, I don't think Rarity has a chance, especially if Spike can see past simple looks and (I can't think of the right word, but he's putting her on a pedestal and greatly overvaluing her... but those rose-tinted glasses are actually quite dangerous and VERY difficult to remove)

And for the second part: in this story Spike TRULY loves Rarity, and that goes beyond her looks.
