Being trapped in limbo for over 1,000 years certainly gives you time to think, but Starswirl has done a lot of that already. After all, he has a legacy and a reputation.
But over 1,000 years also changes those in the world around you, and now two of Starswirl's young pupils have become rulers of the land. And if anyone knows what they were like before they took over the throne, it's Starswirl.
And so, the old wizard finds himself flashing back to his years spent tutoring the young royal sisters. What sort of memories does he have of the princesses as fillies? And more importantly, what did they think of the mighty Starswirl back then?
All I can say is that, I absolutely adored Starswirl's reminiscing of his time with Celestia and Luna when they were younger. The exchanges, characterizations, action and wrap-up were all well done in all the right places. Good inclusion of details from the comics too. Darn good first new story for the year. :-D
I'll definitely be looking forward to more of your work, but will also be quite willing to be patient.
Now I just want to see Starswirl collect those essays
Pretty cute seeing Starswirl as a teacher, and being able to see the sisters as younger immature kids.
I'm pretty sure his eyes are blue.
Also pretty sure his magic color is white.
Obviously. No one in their right mind would give their
enemiesstudents information with which they could use as a tactical advantage.Neither could I.
I NEED TO FIND AN EXCUSE TO USE THIS LINE!!!
He... he even has the strength to resist puppy dog eyes.
I guess Twilight was right when she said he could do anything.
Just "wonderful" would suffice here.
D'aawwwww!
The D'aawwwww! has been doubled!
HOW DOES THE D'AAWWWWW KEEP GROWING???
Also, it should be "grown."
I fam-ship it.
While I don't agree with all of the headcanon material, specifically revolving around the sisters' parents and the state of Canterlot (since I assume you drew inspiration from the comics, which I rarely consider as canon in my mind), I still really enjoyed this story overall. I like reading up on different people's ideas about Starswirl, Celestia, and Luna to draw inspiration for my own headcanon, which I will write about someday after I find a way to defenestrate my procrastination.
And I agree with TaleWeaver; those essays are long overdue.
9104302 I drew a little bit on the comics but not a lot. In fact I wrote this before the "Legends of Magic" series ever established what Starswirl's final words with the royal sisters were.
I love the funny snippets of the Royal Sisters in their foalhood.
