Definitely an interesting and fun chapter to read, especially with the reveal of Nyota's operator number (or whatever the ID was called. Might have been agent number), though the section where it transitions from the sleepless night to the tank training felt like a bit of a whiplash on the change, as I wasn't sure what was going on for a few paragraphs. Other than that, another chapter on the board for the story!

Can you point out the whiplash so I can fix it?
Nicely done and I loved the mystery at the start. A tank might be overkill at first but only the Enslave and Steel Ranger's would have anti-tank weapons.
Stil, something I noticed, happens to me often

About here. I probably got the feeling because I wasn’t sure upon reading the first time that I thought they left when in reality they were practicing with the tank. (Also the picture of the tank being worked on—the note is still there—still needs to be added if the artwork for it is complete)
10324062
Re-wrote that entire scene.
Also the picture won't host for some reason.
10323914
Fix that and re-wrote the tank practice sequence.
10324536
Okay. I am also eager to see the picture when it can be displayed

Ummm No.
That is not how a H.E.A.T. warhead works.
They are incredibly effective versus homogeneous armor (Which literally means ALL the same material armor and is usually used to refer to all steel construction)
Where did you get your information?
At NO POINT has anyone ever used Aluminum for penetration. H.E.S.H. uses a shockwave from a plastic explosive. H.E.A.T. used melted copper.
H.E.A.T. literally stands for "High Explosive Anti-Tank" and H.E.S.H. stands for High Explosive Squash Head.
Steel, Tungsten, and later Depleted Uranium are used for S.A.B.O.T. which penetrate by kinetic force.
Further H.E.A.T. warheads are incredibly effective versus all armor types. They are defeated with Spaced Armor (Armor that has Open Air between layers) or Explosive Reactive Armor, commonly referred to E.R.A.
Understand all mechanics especially bullet, melee, explosive, and other combat based mechanics within this story are thoroughly researched to determine viability and survivability.

It's nice to fìnally get to read this cbapter, starting a new job tends to obliterate free time, but, this was still quite the interesting chapter. As much as I enjoy watching the tabletop shenanigans, there is no substitute for a fleshed out story. Also, Quick Stitch's hot mess of a labcoat is hilariius, yay for fickle dice.

When I get somewhere besides Derpibooru to host it.
10328741
Yeah looking for a new host for the pictures now. Derpibooru is out.
10329383
Okay,

Sorry, I meant non-homogenous. My bad.Was looking at this on mobile today; turns out, I did say non-homogenous the first time. Perhaps I mixed up aluminum with copper, but they do use sheer kinetic energy, not heat. I know what H.E.A.T stands for, and H.E.S.H. I've done my own research over the years. What I described, except for calling it a projectile and not a liner, is EXACTLY how a H.E.A.T. warhead works. Forgive me for futzing the details at 2:00 in the morning.I was referring to RPGs, primarily. The Munroe effect creates a compressive force on the shaped charge and squashes the conical liner inside the hollow in the explosive charge, and that expels it forward, very similarly to the way you can throw a pebble into water and cause a droplet to splash exceptionally high up from the water's surface. The copper "projectile" (conical charge liner) enters a superplastic state, which is not quite liquid, and not technically melted.
There is certainly a great a mount of heat involved, but the forward acceleration of the liner is so rapid that any heat transferred into the liner would have an insignificant effect on the penetrating properties of a superplasticized stream of metal traveling at hypersonic velocities. The effectiveness of the stream against armor depends on the distance at which it detonates. The thickness of armor penetrated is determined by the diameter of the shaped charge itself.
If it were detonated by point-defense mechanisms at one or two meters away from the surface of the armor, the damage would be reduced, because the metal stream would have expanded much like buckshot from a shotgun, thereby increasing its area of impact. It would absolutely shred any living thing still in the way, but tank armor would be fine.
ERA plates are effective against bog-standard RPGs, of course, but one way to get past these with a HEAT warhead is to have a tandem charge attached to the front of the rocket, which strikes and detonates the ERA prematurely and allows the main warhead to strike immediately afterward.
By the way, I got my information largely from the same sources as you. I like looking up military hardware and winding up thirty links deep in Wikipedia.
Also, I first learned what a sabot was in one of David Weber's Bolo novels almost 15 years ago. These things fascinate me endlessly.

Also incorrect
How an RPG works:
There is NO Hypersonic velocity from an explosive, simply put any explosive blast wave that will propel something at "Hypersonic" velocities will instead destroy the object, making it useless for armor penetration purposes.
It's like in movies when you see people get blown off their feet or blown into the air and get up without any real injuries. No wouldn't happen. If the explosive warhead were capable of knocking you off your feet into the air, it would shatter bones, break the skin with the blast wave, and leave you as a heap of out.
RPG projectiles impact with an impact fuse that causes the fuse to go off with no time delay upon the fuse.
They impact and the detonation causes a predetermined chemical component to ignite and metal a large amount of copper-steel alloy which is then funneled through the outer hardened plastic shell. The reason this can be contained is plastic does not transfer heat as quickly as metal so that the shell containing the now Molten steel can jet it through into the target. The resulting molten chunk of metal will eventually melt the plastic but only after a couple of seconds which is more than enough time to cause significant damage to the tank.
Once the steel has melted, another secondary fuse will go off from the heat, as this is a heat detonated fuse. Once that is done the molten metal is propelled into a very small narrow section of the tank armor trying to melt it's way through at roughly 1500 mph, which is much slower than we want to believe it is because humans were not meant to go that fast. The molten metal's job is to punch into the tank where it will super-heat anything inside. Ya know, people, metal, fuel, ammunition, etc to hilariously catastrophic effects.
This entire chemical reaction happens in less than 1 second.
Examples of the aftermath of this:

i.pinimg.com/originals/92/cc/68/92cc68331a73a9323f68eae0a7a9faff.jpg
As you can see large sections of the outer hull bear scorch and burn marks as well as partially melted and re-solidified metals. This is from getting hit with superheated copper-steel alloy magma trying to penetrate the tanks.
This is also why an RPG-7 hitting a vehicle at the moment of impact looks like this:
qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-a87f12c47c8848fd509a8d72784897f0
When the RPG fails to penetrate the resulting fire, brimstone, molten metal has to go somewhere so it cascades everywhere else!
And before you say that is ERA Explosion:
Here is the after shot, as you see the target tank in question has NO ERA plating:
qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-b51edebfbe9363f7f0e9bc39af16257b
Here is the same tank, 24 hours before this picture was taken in the news report in question:
i.insider.com/511c0ddd69bedd521300000b?width=1100&format=jpeg&auto=webp
Again NO ERA.
So no, HEAT rounds explode, they propel liquid magma into the target in hopes of creating a super-heated molten jet of magma.
Tandem HEAT rounds have double warheads. The first to trigger the ERA block, the second to hit the main armor underneath. They still use the same principle just with a structure between the warheads so they detonate exactly 0.2 seconds after each other.
What you have described here is a round that simply does not exist.
No known round using Aluminum for penetrating.
No known round explodes and sends something at hyper-velocity speeds through a target.
Rounds do 1 of 4 things when fired at armor:
1. HE-AT: Not to be confused with H.E.A.T. HE-AT is simply put a LOT of explosives put into a shell to cause the tank in question to be destroyed by sheer explosive force.
Example: Panzer-IV when hit by a KV-2
i.pinimg.com/originals/fe/ca/bf/fecabfae9c90f91039d913c8906817c4.jpg
Other examples include: 500 lbs bombs, naval guns using HE to blow something up, tomahawk cruise missiles, and other forms of Just too much explosive for something to withstand.
2. H.E.A.T. or Shaped Charge - use a shaped charge to propel liquid molten metal into a tank for just long enough to melt through the armor and cause molten metal to cascade inside the tank.
Example: See RPG-7, TOW-Missile, Hellfire Missile, 120mm H.E.A.T. Shell, Panzerfaust.
3. S.A.B.O.T. or Kinetic Penetrator - Using a super ultra dense metal like Depleted Uranium or Tungsten to propel a round at between 700 to 1500 m/s into a target and penetrate by kinetic force alone. Upon impact the round in question fragments and ricochets around the inside of the tank. This causes, sparks, fires, shrapnel damage, or ammo to explode. It also blows a hole in the armor for future attacks to fire into with standard infantry or anti-personnel weapons in hopes of killing the crew.
These include: S.A.B.O.T. rounds, the latest destroyers with railguns, and WW2 area non-explosive capped rounds
4. H.E.S.H. or Shockwave - This doesn't do any actual damage to the outer hull at all. Instead the round sends an explosive shockwave into the tank using a compression charge that collapses on itself propelling the explosive shockwave in one direction. This causes Spalling (Metal on the inside of the tank fragmenting and flying everywhere) as well as concussion damage to crew, tank systems, and can even set off ammunition by causing the firing pins to collapse in storage.
Examples: English H.E.S.H. rounds. Anti-Tank mines.
These are generally the 4 ways to defeat armor and destroy a tank.
H.E.A.T. round example:
There is NO solid piece of metal going into the tank with a H.E.A.T. round.

From Wikipedia, in the first link you cited. I enjoyed the chapter, by the way, and look forward to the next.
Edit: Here is a good demonstration of how the Munroe Effect makes for a great anti-armor weapon:
If the timestamp doesn't work, it's at 3:50.
Daniel Gruchy of the Slow-Mo Guys was a Lance Corporal in the British Army, and used many types of explosives. He has practical experience and expertise, which far outstrips research, mine or yours.
Edit 2: Later in that video, at about 10:20, Dan remarks that the shocktube (detcord activator) detonation travels at 2,000 meters per second, and that the detcord detonation travels at 7,000 meters per second, and that the shaped charge copper jet travels much faster, perhaps 10,000 meters per second (obviously an estimate, but in the ballpark.) 7,000 meters per second is already over 20 times the speed of sound (~15,660 mph), and that is hypersonic, so the copper jet is, as well.
I freely admitted that I mistook which metal it was, and that I referred to the shaped liner incorrectly as a projectile... but it does form a jet of copper. It had been a long time since I last looked up detailed info on the subject, and it was 2:00 in the morning. I wasn't trying to start this sort of argument in the first place, merely correct what I saw as minor technical detail.
10331415
*faceplams* Yes the round travels that fast, the molten metal nor the explosive charge does.
The round travels that fast because that is how fast the propellant makes it go.
upon impact, It has no kinetic property to assist with penetration. The warhead is flimsy and smashes itself like a piece of rice paper.
I am a scientist first and foremost. I go through a lot of trouble to make my stories within the realms of physics.
The only problem is "sooth"....should that be "soot" ....in the first line? Sorry I'm late to the party again! This chapter was smooth. The only way I can explain the way it felt as I read. Stay healthy, know we all wish you well and care for you!

Wonderful to hear from you.
Let Brendan know I haven't been able to sleep all night.
*hugs*
Is there like a sequel to this? Im kinda curious to see what happebs after if there is one
Oh wait nvm my dumass brain just saw the incomplete sign

I'm working on 52 this week hopefully finished tomorrow.
All goods, take ur time. Looking forward to it this is probs by far one of my favourite FOE storiew ive come across.
10409367
Yeah between working on 52 and working on Book 3 printing, this has been a summer of hellish slowdown.
