All those downvoters, I can only assume they've never had an issue like you've written here! I've actually been through this exact issue. Too embarrassed to say what I like, and trying to project thoughts into my fiance's brain to tell him what I prefer. Then I found a website we could use and it made things so much easier!
I do find the idea of Spike's appearance not at all changing a bit.. strange though. Canon-wise, that appearance is all around him being more or less a kid, maturity-wise, not at all unlike RedXIII - he's 48 chronologically, but still at the mental and emotional capacity of a teenager.
