I will be honest—I started off a skeptic, and walked out a fan.
The writing itself is well done, and overall I liked our protagonist. I love the concept of cuddle therapy—it is SUPER pony-like and adorable.
What really impressed me was not only the ending, but the clever and subtle foreshadowing that in hindsight has me grinning. Very, very well done!
I am left with two questions:
1) How old are they? They got their cutie marks together, on their first date, and the story said this was the last time they were together. That gave me the image that they were very young, and leads me into my second question.
2) How long were they together? If their first date was the last time he held her, that doesn't imply long, but he has all these fond memories and this deep pain that would necessitate a much longer relationship than one date.
Overall, fantastic job! I look forward to more from you.

Canonically, I think the answers to your questions are best left to the reader's interpretation. Everyone interprets love and relationships through their own unique perspective and I wanted the reader to relate to the romance as best as they can so I left some details out for the purpose of ambiguity.
Tight Grip and Golden Digger are written to be young adults - somewhere in the Mane 6 age range, maybe a little bit younger. As far as how long they are together, I have them meeting maybe two years prior to the story (so they would have been together about 1 year before she left him). Golden Digger realized when she got her cutie mark that she was good at leading on guys and milking them for what they are worth so they were together until she thought she could get more from someone else (hence the shallow, big-time rapper).
8571903 That's totally fair! As is, my interpretation as a reader was confused and muddled mostly due to this segment:
In the show, ponies generally seem to get their cutie marks around an Elementary school age. She got her cutie mark on their first date, then he got his some time after. Either he was a very late bloomer, or they were together at a very, very young age—the latter of which doesn't jive with him having a business such as he does, so it leaves me both uncertain and not taking his inner turmoil as anything but preteen angst.
I still greatly enjoyed it nonetheless, because I just love that ending!
