Stunning Discoveries

The following morning arrived and like she always does, the very first thing Colgate did was tap into the eye to make sure that everything was going alright. Unlike it was in the past where she would scan abroad before checking on things closer to home, she zeroed in on the Everfree Forest and would not be thrilled by what she saw. She saw that Tirac was beginning to get his Rainbow of Darkness to work. While it was only putting out a tiny amount of energy, not enough to do any damage as he failed to turn a squirrel into a beast, it was beginning to gain its strength back.

Once she saw this, she knew that she needed to get to studying and figure out how to perhaps write a spell to resurrect Ruby Heart, since she believed that she would be the one with the proper energy to use the Rainbow of Light. When she got downstairs for breakfast, her generals could tell that something was not right about her. Lightning Storm asked, "Colgate, what's wrong? You look kind of nervous."

Colgate replied, "I am nervous." Given that Colgate had not even fixed their food, much less began eating she began, "Well I have some bad news. I tapped into the eye this morning and Tirac's Rainbow of Darkness is beginning to regenerate."

Both generals knew that this was bad news but remained calm. Dark Night asked, "So, what are your plans?"

Colgate replied, "I must study everything I can from the Dream Valley collection today because I have a feeling that what may help me with my goal is located in that collection."

Dark Night asked, "I take it that it is going to be a busy day for you?"

Colgate replied, "Very busy unless I find what I need early."

After breakfast, Colgate headed down to the archives to do the research that she felt was necessary. Once she arrived, she began to go through the whole collection and grabbed the books that she believed would be most likely to help her. As she began to read through the first book, she was learning plenty of fascinating things, including how Dream Valley came to be.

That however, was not what she was looking for so she moved on to the next book. The book discussed in great detail the magic of the ponies of that time and how it worked. Like most Equestrians, she had been taught that the ponies of Ponyland did not have much in the way of magic but like she had learned from White Magick and his collection, they possessed more magic than Equestrians thought. While Colgate did find this fascinating, it still wasn't what she was looking for.

Colgate continued to go through book after book of what she thought may contain the information she was looking for, anything that may lead her in the direction to perhaps bring Ruby Heart back. When she reached the final book that she had grabbed, she had become frustrated and her patience was growing thin. She opened the last book and grunted, "Well let's see if it's in here."

It was not too long after she began reading that she became absorbed by it and realized that it may actually contain something useful because it went into detail about the very first attack by Tirac. She knew that in the past they had used the Rainbow of Light to defeat him but couldn't help but notice that there was no mention of the relic in the account. She thought to herself, "How could they have defeated him without that thing? How could they have fought back against the Rainbow of Darkness?"

In the account it went into detail about how Tirac marched into Dream Valley, accompanied by beasts, and began to use his relic on the ponies and turn them into beasts. It also went on about how those that Tirac did not turn into beasts, he killed in cold blood. Colgate thought to herself, "If he did that, how did they fend him off? How did they save those who got turned into beasts?"

Despite knowing that Tirac's Rainbow of Darkness was regaining its strength, she couldn't help but be drawn into the book deeper and deeper. Finally she hit a part of the book that completely shocked her. She screamed, "What?"

Colgate's jaw dropped open when she read the next part of the account, the part that went into detail about who marched in to help them.

"Things were not looking good for us here in Dream Valley as Tirac and his beasts continued their attack. The Rainbow of Darkness has turned many of our citizens into beasts and those who were not turned into beasts were slain by the centaur. It was at that moment that those of us who had holed ourselves up in the castle heard a great scream and saw a bright bolt of red energy. We stared out the window to see what was happening and we were shocked by what we saw. We saw the Lord of Tambelon had marched into Dream Valley with his trogals but rather than attacking us ponies, he was attacking Tirac. We heard him screaming something about revenge for his invasion on Tambelon.

We watched in shock as his bells would light up and he would fire energy at our enemy, striking him and causing him to scream out in pain. All our remaining citizens took shelter in the castle as the battle continued between the two creatures. The battle was unbelievable, Tirac tried his hardest to use his dark rainbow on Grogar but his energy always repelled it.

Finally, it was Grogar who defeated Tirac, which allowed us to banish him back to Tartarus and while it took extensive studying to write the proper magic, we were able to save our fellow ponies from being beasts forever. The most surprising thing however, was that in exchange for some of our knowledge, that Grogar used his magic to revive those who fell in the battle. We provided him with the knowledge he requested and as promised, he revived those who fell in the battle."

Colgate couldn't believe what she was reading. Never in her life did she imagine that at one time Grogar actually helped the ponies of Dream Valley given everything she knew about their history with him. She thought to herself, "I wonder what caused him to turn on them? I wonder why he would go from saving them to enslaving them?"

This was something that Colgate, despite the whole world possibly being in danger, had to find out. She thought to herself, "I wonder, did Tambelon have a library? Did Grogar have his own collection that I could duplicate?"

Colgate continued reading through the book and found nothing that stated why Grogar would turn on them. Once she finished the book, she said to herself, "Perhaps that would be in a later volume of their history."

She returned the books to the shelves and then began to look at books detailing the times that followed the defeat of Tirac. After another two hours of searching, she found what she was looking for in a volume that detailed the times of 1,000 years following Grogar aiding them in their first defeat of Tirac.

"The times are troublesome here in Dream Valley as the unicorns of our home have been disappearing. For a very long time we could not figure out why until we caught the kidnapper, Lord Grogar of Tambelon. We were shocked as to why the one who aided us in defeating Tirac would suddenly turn on us. We were bound and determined to find out so many other ponies along with Megan Williams, armed with the Rainbow of Light, marched on Tambelon to not only rescue our fellow ponies, but to confront Grogar, get answers and then cast him and Tambelon back into the deep places of the world.

When we arrived in Tambelon, we launched an attack upon the city, slaying many, many trogals before the Lord of the city met us in battle. Many, many of our forces were imprisoned in cages by his dark magic before we were able to remove his collar, rendering him powerless. At that point we finally confronted him and learned that his hatred of Ponykind stemmed from his belief that we did not give him all the knowledge he requested.

There was to be no reasoning with him nor was there any excuse for what he did to our fellow ponies so after rescuing our citizens, Megan rang the bell in the city and cast Grogar and his minions back into the deep places of the world, hopefully never to return."

Colgate couldn't help but be fascinated by everything she read but noticed one thing, that everything she had read seemed like it was not like your normal history book, that it was actually a first hoof account as told by the author. She began to search the books, trying to see if there was mention of who wrote them but much to her dismay, there was no author but she had learned enough that she knew what she could do to bring Ruby back to the world. She knew it would likely be illegal across all of Eqqus 1 but to her that did not matter, she knew that Ruby would be a valuable ally and may understand the energies of the Rainbow of Light well enough to use it.

Author's Note:

Discover that at one time Dream Valley and Tambelon were allies in battle against Tirac.

After victory, Grogar used magic to resurrect fallen DV ponies after they promised him knowledge, DV lied which turned Grogar against all ponies.
