Eclipsa Day Part II: The Opening Festival

The air was thick with a mix of excitement and fear as every citizen in the Great Alicorn City made their way to the center of town where the lingering moon still hung in the sky, it's light blocked out by the form of a gigantic obsidian statue of Eclipsa, and numerous festival tents and booths were being set up all along the streets. Large balloons with Eclipsa's smiling face adorned every street corner and the smell of delicious food wafted through the air throughout the city. But everypony knew what was coming. They had known the whole year. Luckily, they had prepared for it.

Eclipsa watched from on stage, at the base of her massive statue, and smiled as more and more ponies gathered to hear her speech. Omnipotence, who stood beside her, was still worried but determined to make Eclipsa Day a holiday of actual fun, rather then abject terror. "Just keep calm, and make sure she doesn't go too far...again." she told herself. "Everything will be alright."

"Did you say something, Omni?"

"No, dear sister! Go ahead, you're doing fine!" Omnipotence said quickly, with a smile.

Eclipsa smiled back at her sister, then approached the podium. No form of voice amplification was needed as Eclipsa enjoyed using the Royal Voice to announce Eclipsa Day.

She cleared her throat then began.

"Citizens of The Alicorn Empire, and beyond. Welcome to the Opening Festival of Eclipsa Day!" the alicorn's words echoed throughout the kingdom as the ground itself reverberated with every word. "It warms my heart to see so many of you in support for this truly beloved holiday."

An awkward murmuring could be heard throughout the crowds as some smiled, others shuffled their hooves, and a few took cover behind barrels. "The usual reaction" Omnipotence thought.

Eclipsa didn't seem to notice though, as she continued. "As with every year, I ask that you all have the most fun that you can today. Forget all your worries, your troubles and your responsibilities, because on this day, none of those things matter. You only need remember to do one thing: Enjoy yourselves!"

Then she thought of something else. "Oh! And hang on to something."

As soon as she said this, Eclipsa stamped a hoof hard down onto the stage and the ground began to shake. The sound of moving stone and marble could be heard as the mouth of the great statue, opened up, and moved so that it was looking directly up at the fading moon.

As a high pitched whine cut through the air, a lone guard brought Eclipsa her prized electric guitar. She smiled with glee as she took it in her hooves. Eclipsa took a breath as she stood on her hind hooves and brought the guitar strap around her neck. Thick spikes adorning the silver plates of her hooves acted like guitar picks as she began to play.

A low, haunting wail emanated from the guitar, as the whining from the statue grew louder. The air around the area grew warmer as red crackling energy swirled around the mouth of the statue.

The choir joined in as Eclipsa wove a tapestry of wild, flaring chords that seemed to move through the air like knives. Omnipotence looked over at her sister, impressed. If anything, her sister was gifted when it came to the guitar.

As Eclipsa continued to shred on her guitar, raising the cheers and shouts of applause from the crowd, the whining of the statue built to its apex, before a massive red laser exploded from the maw of the statue, sailing faster then fast into the stratosphere, until it finally struck the surface of the moon.

Time stood still for several seconds, as everyone shielded there eyes from what they knew would happen next. Eclipsa tore a loud shrieking power chord from her guitar, as the bottom half of the moon completely exploded, giving off a massive boom that was comparable to an atom bomb, exploding in the sky. Birds flew from the trees, clouds parted for miles, as massive pieces of the moon hailed down through the atmosphere, burning like house sized balls of fire, as they grew closer to the kingdom.

A few ponies scattered in panic, while many just stood and watched. They knew what was happening next. Eclipsa tore another chord as massive fireballs exploded from the ground, thousands, perhaps millions all sailing into the sky, where they exploded upon making contact with the moon chunks that hailed down. A chaotic, maddening display of colors and explosions created the world's most insane fireworks display for all to witness.

The band erupted into a cataclysmic orchestra as purple flames consumed the upside down permanent crescent that was now the moon, turning the entire sky the deepest shade of purple. A plum backdrop to an array of exploding rainbows, that careened and arched across the sky. The day was now night. And it was Eclipsa's.

As Eclipsa finished her solo with a low, sweet string of short power chords, her guitar also burst into flames. The orchestra took over as the colors in the sky continued to set the night sky a blaze.

Eclipsa Day had begun. And all the while, the rest of the world (who had no idea about Eclipsa Day) once again looked to the skies in horror, wondering why once again, the freaking moon had blown up for no reason.

As Omnipotence watched the whole thing, a single thought escaped her lips. "This is going to be harder then I thought."
