Wow this was really neat. At first I thought this was going to be some sort of an AU thing, but then the whole library thing happened and the realization dawned that nope - this is actually taking place in the in-show universe. Which leaves a lot of questions to be asked - how did the vampires manage to overrun Equestria? Since it was mentioned that Luna now leads what remains of ponykind, what happened to Celestia? Did she perish, or is she actually the Mistress? The propheti dreams is something Celestia has also been mentioned to have, I believe. And Twilight's devotion to Mistress certainly seemed reminiscent to that which she shows Celestia. And do the vampires not have any magic? It was mentioned that current Twilight lacks a horn, which would make for a pretty huge disadvantage in a fight.
Regardless! I can't wait to see this continued - it makes sense that if there is one thing that would push at Twilight's memories (Is losing your memories a side effect of vampirism? Or did Mistress try to erase the memories of specific ponies personally?), it would be Spike. And one has to wonder if the Mistress' prophecy isn't of the self-fulfilling kind. By betraying Twilight and casting her out (and not in a particularly smart manner either - if you believe someone to be a danger, just kill them instead of toying with them), she may well have sown the seeds of her eventual downfall when Twilight eventually comes back with a venegance.

I didn't think I would like this story when I first started reading it as much as I like it now. I really like the way you diverged your story from canon so far, and I hope to find out what happened to Celestia and what Luna's role in all of this is. Anyways, great story, can't wait for more!

I got to this story, and I must say am happy about this. giving me a lot of Legacy of Kain vibes, which is nice it had a good story.
Aww, I really enjoyed the meeting present and past Twilight, even if the latter's more of a mental construct than anything. Seems like Twilight isn't as far gone as I'd thought. And I guess we've discovered our mystery vampony from last chapter. I wasn't expecting that Luna would have been turned, but it explains quite a bit. Definitely untrustworthy, though, and Twilight basically bluffed her way out of a conflict this time. If she wants to survive the next encounter, she'll need to make some friiieeends...
I'm thinking Mistress is Celestia, but I have many questions. The opening is very intense. I can't wait to read more!

Ha! I've been waiting for someone to mention this. Soul Reaver has one of the coolest intros I've even seen, and it heavily influenced the beginning of this story. But don't worry, besides the initial setup, it branches far away from that game's story.

Okay so Luna is around so we can rule out this "Mistress" being NMM. Clestia is off hiding somewhere with a bunch of survivors or she is proper dead and Luna is good maybe? I mean she is against this stories villain but AJ seems to trust her as much as she trusts most vamponies. Something tells me Luna is a vampony in this story because she though fight fire with fire. All in all a interesting story so far let see how this goes on from here.
