Hey, cool concept! Totally tracking this one.

If anyone else reading is curious, here's the list of what's on the actual golden record included with Voyager II. A lot of people are taught about it at some point early in school, so I think most should at least recognize that we sent a disc with "hello" and some rock music on it into space. I don't think too many remember that the disc holds much more than that, including greetings in over 25 languages and a worldly music selection that encompasses many genres. I suppose that's technically a spoiler somehow, but it's an extremely fascinating project both because of the disc's contents and because of the technological disparity; the most advanced spacecraft of the time carried with it a modified version of a simple vinyl press record. :moustache:

This is great! There are a few places near the start where language is used repeatedly, but I'm going to favourite it regardless.

Thanks! I was thinking about adding another chapter, like a conclusion of some kind.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll get to fixing it!

Really like the idea and I love the use of Orion
I would be happy to see a second chapter detailing scenes of their reactions to some of the sound and their thoughts on it all

Okay, I'll take off my space geek hat that's currently screaming at the thought of something as fragile as a Voyager-class probe surviving Entry Descent and Landing (EDL) on an Earth-type planet. I suppose you can tap-dance around it; maybe Luna spotted it as it crossed her Night and psychically brought it in slow, realising that it was artificial and potentially important.

PS: Somepony ought to be looking for the probe's radioisotope-thermoelectric generator. It contains pretty damagerous Plutonium-238 decay products like Thorium-230 and Uranium-234. None of those things you would want to sit around in an agricultural area like Ponyville.

What is interesting is what is elsewhere on the disc's protective cover. If the Ponies have developed radio astronomy, the 'starburst' is actually a way of finding Earth based on the angles to the brightest pulsars. Yes, at least hypothetically, that record bears a map showing the ponies how to find us! :pinkiehappy:

Oh man, when I read it I thought it was marked 'Incomplete" and figured you had a whole story planned around this. Definitely write another chapter!

Although it's marked as complete, please write at least one more chapter, I want to know how they'd react... This is too great to be a one-chapter story! :raritywink:

Sure, why not? I'll write another chapter. Dunno when it'll get done, but I'll aim for soon.

If we do ever achieve intergalactic travel, we should go on a scavenger hunt for all the probes we sent out.

I really hope you can, at some point find the time, to add another chapter to this story, i love the idea.

Yeah, I've really been wanting to continue this. I just never sit down and do it. But don't worry, I'll try my best.

1505868

Glad to hear it, just happy your still alive :P

Don't worry about it.

Awesome that you updated this.... just one question... what does this chapter has to do with the first one or the whole concept of this story? :applejackconfused:

:rainbowlaugh: Oh man, Gilbo and his brood were hilarious!

Was anyone else hearing the Demoman?

1878398

Clearly, 'Tia wants to show off Earth's present to the other world leaders.

Yep! I detected a lot of black, Scottish cyclops in that chapter! Very nice!

this is going to be interesting

Holy crap, you wrote another chapter! Nice!

I remember reading about the Golden Record. Favorited so I can see where this goes.

I don't get what this chapter has to do with the first chapter.:rainbowhuh:

I think you mean 'materialized' as opposed to 'militarized'.
Darn you autocorrect!

1903157 They played the record and Celestia decided to inform the other countries, was it really that hard to think of that?

Too bad there's not more detail about them actually listening to the record, or following the instructions to decode the images on Side B.

How long has it been since voyager was launcher in this story? 100 years? 1000 years? If humanity has survived to that point, if the ponies ever made contact, and we got pissed off, they would all die.
