Destiny's Child

Set in a time after "Call of the Cutie" and before "Magical Mystery Cure", this story results in a departure from the Friendship is Magic timeline and leads into an Alternate Universe.

Twilight finds an orphaned foal in the Everfree Forest and adopts it as her own, but Celestia establishes that this bright young life is not long for this world. She is faced with the dilemma of what to tell her student, but even she cannot know the serious implications of her decision.

Frankly, I didn't like it. Celestia is just making justifications for herself and saying that her "integrity" is worth more than ponies' lives, and if using her power to extend the life of someone is going to spiral into her becoming "arbiter of life and death" then that speaks more of her weakness and ego than it does of her supposed virtue and restraint.

Particularly because she preferred to put it off and let it become worse until nothing else could be done and decided to keep her "integrity" over actually doing something that could fix the problem.
