I agree with your assessment. Not as many Luna-mom fics out there and the main one I have read tends to approach it in a significantly more timid way as Luna is very worried about acceptance. Have yet to see one where it is her as a mother without some Nightmare Moon abandonment issues present.

It may fit you, in the region where you live, but that doesn't mean it applies to ponies. If you'd used it in dialogue, it would be one thing. "Folks don't talk raht, sometahms." But in the prose mechanics, where it causes a reader to stop and say, "wait, what?!" it's an error.
This is an interesting story start, but when I hit that particular bit, it was definitely a mental trip that broke the flow.
