In a boundless multiverse there are equally many stories to tell. While planeswalkers across time and space compete in epic struggles for their own ideals, the ponies of Equestria have many tales of their own to share.

A series of short stories in the My Little Planeswalker multiverse, set between the events of Twilight’s Spark and Shattered Sunset.

Chapters (20)

I'm going to point out that Rarity didn't get her cutie mark until everypony could see the costumes she made with those gems. (Of course, that does still raise the question of how a barely adolescent filly made it home with all of those precious stones in tow...)

Reclusive planeswalking chronomancer? Did Twilight meet Karn?

Teleporting is faster than galloping, Twilight.

Do you steal ponies’ souls and make them your slaves?

The same could be said for all fashionistas.

“Wait,” said Pinkie, “sugar makes you fat?”

"I only get a pudge when I eat the fundamental substrate of reality, just like Auntie Em!"
(Hey, if Pinkie isn't a planeswalker, that's my next best explanation for her. :raritywink:)

In any case, definitely an interesting take on both Rarity and vampirism. And I do wonder if she heard Applejack's near-confession...

Also, more cards! Well, one more card, but it came together even as I was reading about the fellow:

Vínculo, Duke of Espoña 3WB
Legendary Creature — Pony Vampire
Whenever a nontoken, non-Vampire creature dies, you may pay 2(wb). If you do, return that card to the battlefield under your control. It's a Vampire in addition to its other types.
"Rise. Fate will not be so cruel this day."
3/3

He's even Sponish, so he'll fit right in with the conquistadors of Ixalan.

If random civilians and political figures are also vampires it seems bizarre that it's a secret, especially if turning anyone requires an elaborate ritual. Twilight's inferring ability to declare false every secret/mystery she encounters makes her seem pretty dumb considering how often she encounters new knowledge.

Hey, if all else fails, slap your fic with an Alternate Universe tag. :trollestia:

Teleporting is faster than galloping, Twilight.

True, but she's made it a habit not to teleport long-distance when she's not in direct view of the sun or moon (for reasons I've explained before) and it's much more difficult to teleport another pony with you. I'd imagine when her friend's life is threatened she wouldn't risk accidentally telefragging herself on the way to save her.

Then again, this is Twilight "I'm going to try to prove my mentor's fears wrong by doing the exact thing she was most afraid I'd do" Sparkle, so who knows?

If random civilians and political figures are also vampires it seems bizarre that it's a secret, especially if turning anyone requires an elaborate ritual.

The Duke of Espoña is particularly reclusive, to the point where his subjects may or may not even be aware that they have a duke. Older vampires also tend to have memory charms as a part of their expansive repertoire of abilities, allowing them to easily discard and create false identities before other ponies notice that they aren't aging.

While Equestria is a lot more tolerant than it used to be and could accept and recognize vamponies if Celestia or any of the Mane 6 were to recognize them, there was a time not too long ago from the perspective of an immortal lifespan where things were much dangerous for their kind. It's not something they're likely to forget easily.

“ Well, Ali Baba had them Forty Thieves— ”

Seriously, you had to make that Aladdin reference

Neat! Your Discord card reminds me of Possibility Storm, and that is most definitely a gloriously chaotic card.

Discord made of the Blind Eternities? Interesting.

He's soulless and Sparkless. I'm not sure what to make of that.

And a Starlight/Trixie shipping joke. That got a chuckle out of me.

I like this story. Thanks for writing and sharing it!

At the very least, she hadn’t ended up in the center of an active volcano. That was an experience she didn’t care to repeat.

Hmm. Jund, Regatha, or Wildfire? Or, you know, one of any of the other volcanically active planes out there, but those are the first three to come to mind.

Oh good, there's an ocean. For a moment, I was worried Twilight had found herself on Amonkhet.

Heh. Poor Twilight. Every planeswalker has a signature outfit; she just wishes she could change hers.

Twilight, you have no right to groan at puns.

Discord as an example of Bastard Plane zoology? It certainly works. Fascinating concept, and a very amusing vignette all around.

Okay, someone needs to alter Harmless Offering to show Opalescence.

I've always had this headcanon that Joira, or at least a couple timelines' Joiras, gained a spark as a result of the mending. What better way to hide than in another timeline altogether? Of course, I just like the flavor of a steampunk chronomancer with an affinity for literal clockwork.

"Grand Judge Locutus IV was found petrified in his private chambers this morning."

Looks like he was assimilated.

Hmm. Foreign suns probably would play merry havoc with a mare's reproductive cycle. I hope Twilight isn't heading to Amonkhet any time soon.

Twilight should probably ask at least one Rarity for help in diversifying her wardrobe. A shame extraplanar outfits wouldn't survive the trip.

:twilightoops: That Lunar blend. Best not to let Jace have more than a cup of that every month or so.

I’d sooner have my mind wiped than ally myself with her.

Ah, dramatic irony.

The Sun Empire would probably approve of cutting out the mammalian middleman if they weren't said middleman.

This is an awesome character parallel, all the more so for being so obvious in hindsight. The origin of the petrification grenades is especially nice. Awesome stuff; thank you as always.

The card, though... At minimum, it's strictly much better than Arrest. I don't want to say it should cost XXX, but as is, it's very dangerous. Maybe add mana to the activation cost?

Yeah, I’ve bumped up the activation cost to three mana. Instant-speed, colorless Arrest that can’t be dealt with by enchantment removal is very powerful and I had some trouble balancing the mana curve. It should work a bit better now.

EDIT: I've also edited the ability so it can only be activated at sorcery speed. Less broken, and it doesn't fuck with the rules for attacking as much since you can't activate the ability during combat.

EDIT 2: I’ve also reworded it slightly to cut down on card space.

Out in the desert, Twilight Sparkle approaches a majestic white horse.

"Excuse me? Ma'am? Do you know where I could meet a Crested Sunstallion?"

8477712

"Excuse me? Ma'am? Do you know where I could meet a Crested Sunstallion?"

TBH I don’t really think Twilight would care too much about that particular detail.

“But recruiting Vraska is out of the question. I’d sooner have my mind wiped than ally myself with her.”

I LOL'ed pretty hard at this one. Great little Joke there.

“Not a whole lot,” said Gideon. “I’ve been trying to find suitable tasks for the Gatewatch, but nothing major has come up so far. In the meantime, I’ve been doing my usual work assisting the Boros.”

Suddenly a wild Nicol Bolas appears

Loved this little chapter. At first I thought that the Duke was hinting at being from Esper... Which is a little odd for a Vampire, but still. So I googled his name.

I am curious, was it intentional that his name is Sanguine Bond's spanish translation ?

Heh, I was wondering when someone would notice that. The answer is yes.

I’m, uh... glad you’re enjoying Princess Luna’s special blend.

Luna's Blend: Enough Caffeine to Kill a (Mortal) Horse.™

Heh... Rarity is Grixis, eh? Very interesting...

“I... I already told you, that’s complicated,” Jace replied. “But recruiting Vraska is out of the question. I’d sooner have my mind wiped than ally myself with her.”

Foreshadow Ixalan, much?

Oh that thing with where she got her grenades from was crafty.

With the first paragraph and the charger title I thought we were going to be going more of a continuum kind of route. Still enjoyable for sure:twilightsmile:

Unlike standard Grixis creatures, Rarity's primary color isn't black, but rather an equal combination of blue/red, which is reflected in her mana cost having an alternate color order.

Have you considered using hybrid mana for her cost?

If you make her red and blue mana symbols hybrids, it makes her more dominant colors a lot more flexible in use on the actual card, follows your idea of blue and red having equal weight in her color identity, and has the added benefit of staying true to official MtG design, since Grixis Grimblade follows the same color allocation and order.

Alternatively, you could set the black mana to a (2/B) hybrid to indicate its lesser weight in her color identity.

8498714

Have you considered using hybrid mana for her cost?

Hybrid mana tends to be very awkward to design around when using more than two colors. Grixis Grimblade made it work because it only had a CMC of two. Using multiple hybrid mana symbols with regular colored mana symbols makes the cost look aesthetically unpleasant, and it introduces a lot of clashing information that can be hard to digest quickly, which is a problem you’ll see fairly often with hybrid mana symbols if you ever browse MtG Cardsmith.

So far Reaper King is the only card with multiple different kinds of hybrid mana symbols that really made it work, and it still needed reminder text.

8498816
I suppose that makes sense. I can't say I've heard of Cardsmith until now, but I'm chalking that up to my... I hesitate to say disinterest in fan-made cards, but I can't think of a better way to describe it at the moment.

Even so, I just thought I'd throw the suggestion out there, in the case you found any merit to the idea.

damn for a person who actually plays magic the card game let me tell you that emblem effect is scary

...huh. That sure was an unexpected twist at the end. Good on you for reconciling the season 7 finale with this continuity though.

8525645
I guess someone doesn't like Contamination.

As for the story. Come on Twilight. You should by now know to be cautious....
Since she knew Urza was a planswalker, did it never occur to her to ask Time Turner about it? This is something connected to a group, who opposed him. Then again, this requires knowledge about him, which is speculation at this point.

It's not undeserved, but I am kind of sad to see Urza be remembered as a monster and a tyrant.

“Hold on there,” said Applejack. “Are you saying the name of Star Swirl’s friend is ‘Somepony?’”
“Oh, I know him!” said Pinkie Pie. “He plays center field for the Manehattan Airships!”

I thought that was Because.

Very interesting spin on the finale, though I am a touch disappointed that it doesn't involve Nahiri twisting ley lines to drive Celestia mad while drawing Emrakul to the plane. Here's hoping Twilight learned how to cast Celestial Purge at some point.

8525722

Twilight does know Time Turner at this point in the continuity, but Time Turner also has habit of slipping out of other ponies’ awareness whenever he’s not directly present.

A little bit irritated that most of this chapter amounted to a slightly modified transcript.

Loved the parts at the beginning and the very end, though! Doc hugging it out with Stygian was great.

Also, that emblem is scary.

Was Arzakon the source of the well's power, or is he its new host?

8526344

Arzakon is the source of the Well's dark power. He was imprisoned there some time ago, after being banished from Shandalar by the protagonist of the Microprose game. Time Turner was responsible for maintaining the seal, though he may or may not have been the one to create it.

I was referring the planeswalker card( that thing really is scary) its passive with the counters means you just need 3 other mana colors on the field besides black to use the emblem right when its hits his the field for 5 mana and that emblem effect means unless your opponent is running black, colorless deck or artifacts/creature that make mana you will lose by turn 5 (not counting if he is mana ramping himself) of the planeswalkers controllers turn if he has that. That is scary in my book because not everyone runs all black ,colorless, or artifact/creature mana decks

8525904
Considering many of his actions even though they were for fighting against yawgmoth, Urza was a monster.

As for the demon being Arzakon...

Somebody pick up the phone, 'cause I fucking called it!

8525722

Contamination is completely insane too. That and the fictional Planeswalker described here, depending on the opposing deck, is either totally useless or completely broken. Contamination does have the "one creature per turn" caveat, but a decent token-using deck (Ophiomancer, anyone?) should have no problem with the upkeep, and there isn't much that can destroy enchantments without spending mana.

How they ever ended up printing Contamination is a mystery to me.

How they ever ended up printing Contamination is a mystery to me.

You could probably say the same for half the cards in the entire Urza Block, to be unfair.

8533301
Well, it's a dead card vs black decks and you still have non-land manasources, which are unaffected.

Add to that the sac-caveat and the opportunety for the opponent to tap colored mana in response then play the removal with it and you end upo with a nice powerful niche-card.

Ass for the PW, It's his ultimate. You don't judge a PW by that, but by how easy he gets it. Pretty much every PW ult is gamewinning. Arzakon takes at least 3 turn before he can use it and those turns he makes practically nothing. Yes, he has protection, but at -3 with only a +1, it is a really expensive protection.

8533418
Pah, Urza didn't even have Grip of Chaos

I didn't know there was an Arabian Nights expansion; for a moment I was worried Twilight had gone to THE Alexandria and her lamp was going to set off the great fire that ravaged it.

Hmm... Sounds like Twilight should call in some extra-planar reinforcements.

At first I was skeptical of your decision regarding Rarity, but after reading this it makes much more sense. Although, are you sure the most dangerous thing to a vampire is silver? Because I can think of a lithomancer who would disagree.

8536289

Vampires work differently in different planes. The reason I made Equestrian vampires weak to silver is that silver is a traditional weakness of vampires, werewolves, fey creatures in much of Earth’s folklore.

8536322
That was a joke. Of course silver wrecks them.

Looks like someone also frequents MTGSalvation. :raritywink:

On a completely unrelated note, now that I think about it, Rarity's vampirism is actually great news for Sparity shippers, since her being ageless means they now have similar life expectancies.

Well, Rarity's legendary creature card from a while back makes a lot more sense now that she's also a vampire.

Might even be less pleasant that dying

1. Than.

Things seem to have taken a turn for the different.

Also, I get the feeling that Star Swirl might be a planeswalkers for some reason. I'm just getting that "special unicorn" vibe from him. Just saying...

He placed raised a hoof to stone gateway
he wasn’t looking forwards to being caught
You don’t no who I am
now matter how poor the handwriting

1. He placed his raised hoof to the stone gateway.
2. Forward.
3. Know.
4. No. Also, handwriting?
