I live on a farm of plotbunnies.

Twilight had never gone shopping just for the sake of it, until she met Rarity. She’d never had someone her own age who had wanted to do something like that with her before, as friends.

Assuming, of course, that Rarity was even her friend. She still wasn’t entirely sure of that, and she wanted Rarity to be her friend, even as a small voice whispered in the back of her mind with discontent at the label for some odd reason. It would be okay to consider her a friend, right?

Heck yes! I was just thinking about how disappointing it is to have so few fics with SciTwi and Rarity, and boom!

love this story

This is so very cute! I think one of the things that sets this apart from some other EQG fanfics is that, to me, Rarity and Twilight here are actually acting like teenagers! I could see this scenario happening in real life with teens, instead of the young adult mentality you often see in EQG fan fictions. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just refreshing to see something a bit different!
Again, ridiculously cute. Stories like this make me go "Aww, I'm so happy for them!".

Now I'M rambling. :pinkiehappy:

Very well done, thank you for sharing it with us!

I suspected this began life as a contest entry. In any case, some very nice cuteness. And I've found that Rarity teasing Twilight is one of the greatest delights with this pairing; nice work there. You are a little heavy on vague pronouns and Lavender Hominid Syndrome, but overall, this was a very sweet and enjoyable read. Thank you for it.

Just wanted to jump in real quick and say a huge thank you to everyone who has liked and commented so far! I'll get to individual replies when I'm home from work, unfortunately the option doesn't seem to work well on mobile. :twilightoops:

Okay! Home on the laptop, time for some individual replies!

Oh, don't remind me. I was trying to find a picture from the movies with Sci-Twi and Rarity in the same shot and found like two images, and they weren't even good images! So lovestruck Sci-Twi got the title image all to herself for this one.

Thank you!

8344367

... Well played.

Glad you enjoyed it so much! :pinkiehappy: And I'm happy you particularly enjoyed the character mentality, it's something I really go back and forth on when writing Equestria Girls fics because the show is so vague about actual character ages.

Thank you!

Thank you very much for the comment, and I can definitely see the issue you're talking about. I'll have to keep it in mind next time; it's something I've admittedly struggled with when writing Equestria Girls fics with Twilight as one of the main characters.

Thank you!

This story (and SciTwi/Rarity pairings in general) remind me of the early RariTwi ships, back in the pre season 3 era. Back when Twilight was the socially awkward nerd. I miss that, and I want to thank you for bringing that feeling back

I do think it's a shame that later seasons have moved away from that characterization of Twilight, honestly. Character development is a thing, obviously, and hints of it do come out here and there in the later episodes, but I do miss the days when she was just so blatantly socially awkward. It was a lot of fun to watch and think about when writing.

Ah well, it's still workable enough and there's always Sci-Twi now for our socially awkward science nerd shipping needs.

i clicked on this story hoping it would be an MLP - Hamilton crossover... heh...

Yeah, I actually read this because I saw the title and immediately thought "I SEE THAT THERE REFERENCE!"

I've been trapped in Hamilton hell now for at least a month. It's warm and cozy, I don't think I'm going to leave.

With guns, and ships, and so the balance ships...

As always, this is a wonderful story. Too wonderful, in fact. I started reading this during a short break while at work and assumed I'd finish on my lunch break. Nope! I was hiding behind the register reading in between customers for the remainder of the story. It was a challenge to not squee at all the cute parts – which, I must add, were plentiful – and more than once I had to walk away from my phone to keep myself from going full fangirl mode. Needless to say I'm going to have to ask you to tone it down in the future; it just won't do to have another situation like this one pop up :duck:

In all seriousness though, this story was a treat. I'm glad to see you had Twilight be adorkably clueless while avoiding the trope of "character doesn't understand all these feelings inside them". Meanwhile, Rarity's casual flirting was fantastic; it manages to be clear to the reader that her intentions are more than friendship, but isn't so obvious that Twilight's uncertainty wouldn't make sense. I'll also agree with Peachy Keen in that this story is particularly charming because they feel like real teenagers.

I did wonder what was up with all the color stuff at the store. The story lingered there enough that I was positive it was going to tie in thematically somehow, but then it kinda just got dropped. Seeing the author's note made that make sense, but it was still kind of puzzling when I was reading. Ah well, that's hardly a major problem. I loved this story and would recommend it (by which I mean I will be recommending it :ajsmug:)

Would tempting you make this a possibility? Because if so I might try :raritywink:

I saw the title and my mind started flooding with endless MLP/Hamilton possibilities.

That song's going to be stuck in my head all day now.

Firstly, this is the point wherein I admit that I haven't even seen Hamilton live and unfortunately probably won't be able to for some time (though I dearly wish I could; seeing Wicked performed live in New York was a heck of a thing!), so I think my ability to do any sort of crossover is somewhat... limited since all I do is listen to the music. :ajsleepy: Ah well, maybe one day I'll be able to see it live and I'll be given even more ideas. Until then, there will probably be more Hamilton music inspired titles for my works in the future.

Secondly, yeah, the store was supposed to be the point where I was going to try and tie in the contest's theme and work it into things from there, but unfortunately once I got to that point it just didn't come together the way I wanted to. That happened pretty late into the story too (around page five or six if I remember correctly, so it was more or less the halfway point of things), so by then I decided that I'd still finish it and eventually post it as its own thing instead of submitting it for the contest since it didn't fit the rules.

More stories with Hamilton song titles; it's more likely than you think.

Aaaahhh!! This is just too adorable!

This was such a cute little story!!

Twilight had to resist the urge to wince; as it was, the only reason she hadn’t flinched entirely when her friend said those words was because she still had a grip on her hand, and the purple girl was determined to enjoy that feeling for as long as it would last until Rarity decided to let go. “Yes, um… I appreciate the thought, Rarity, but I’m not exactly… known for being colorful. I don’t know if this is a good idea.”

Just go with it twilight. Do it for rarity.

The concern rolled off of Rarity like water off of a duck’s back. “Nonsense, darling! I hardly consider gym clothes and a school uniform a good reference for what you’re known for when it comes to outfits.”

She's got a point. :applejackunsure:
