A waking Nightmare

Twilight looked around slowly as she and the other elements of harmony are lead back to the room where princess Celestia, the changeling queen Chrysalis, her brother Shining Armor, and Cadence were. The place where to her it all began. Where the voices started again. She closed her eyes and sighed nowing that this was the end.. at least for her.

"You do realise the receptions been cancelled don't you?" Chrysalis voice cut through her thoughts "Go! Feed!" The changling queen shouts up to her subjects before laughing as they fly off to obay. " Its funny really." Chrysalis says as she walks up to them putting her hoof under Twilights chin. " Twilight here was suspicious of my behavior all along. To bad the rest of you were to caught up in your wedding planning to realize those suspicions were correct. Ha!"

"Sorry Twi" Applejack says walking up next to her "we shoulda listened to you."

Twilight sighs closing her eyes again head drooping sadly "yes... you should have..." she says earning her looks of suprise from everyone but Chrysalis, the hypnotized shining armor, and Cadence. "But its to late now..."

"Heh yes. Yes it is." Chrysalis says walking to a window before starting to sing. "This day had been just perfect. The kind of which I've dreamed since I was small. Everypony I'll soon control. Every stallion, mare, and foal. Who says a girl can't really have it all?"

"... I do." Twilight says looking up at the changeling queen with her eyes glowing gold as everyone turns to look at her. " Ever since I was a filly I heard the words, I knew the spell, but i refused to cast it. Now.. however... my friends abandoned me... Celestia turned her back on me dismissing my concerns... and my assistant Spike choose to follow the crowd leaving me alone. Even mind controlled though.. i never expected shining armor to tell me not to show up to his wedding.." Twilight gives a dark chuckle as with every word the named ponies and dragon's eyes widen.

"And given all that, along with the fact that I defeated celestia, you would still stand against me? What is this spell you think could win where even an alicorn could not? You have nothing. No elements of harmony, no friends, and nopony coming to save you" Chrysalis says amused at this little pony's defiance in a situation like this.

"Let me show you." A dark smile forms on Twilights face as she steps forword. "Darkness beyond Blackest Pitch, Deeper then the Deepest Night, More Vast then the Greatest Ocean, Colder then the Coldest Ice, Oh King of Darkness who Shines like Gold, Oh Great Sea of Chaos, I call Upon thee, I Awaken thee, let the fool who stands before us be destroyed by the power we possess!" As Twilight casts the spell she begins to change. Her body going upright onto her back hooves, clothes and armor forming around her until finally...

"Wh-what are you?" Chrysalis asks her eyes wide as everyone can only stare at what happened to Twilight.

"We are the Mother of all Darkness. Deeper then the deepest night that is how you describe us. We are the sea of chaos the source of all chaos. We are... the Lord of Nightmares." Twilights voice echos with power raising her hand waveing it. All changelings start falling apart into golden dust.

" H-how?! I was so close?! My plans... all my schemes... just to have this sudden turn around await me at the end?!" Chrysalis shouts staring at her fellow changelings as her own body disappears into golden dust.

" ...Its suprising. We never expected our mortal self to actually cast the failsafe. " Twilight slowly turns her head toword Celestia, the other elements, and Spike. "We shouldn't have awakened until Twilight Sparkle either died or if she ascended to become an alicorn we would have slowly merged.. the fact that she felt so alone she heard the entire spell. We are so disappointed in all of you."

The cocoon holding Celestia breaks and she lands by the bearers of the Elements of Harmony. "Twilight.." Celestia begins to say only to be cut off by Twilight waving her hand at them a golden line of light flows out of them aswell as from Luna's tower and into Twilights hand.

"We have taken back the fragment of our power we let you possess. What you called the Elements of Harmony. " she turns and looks away from the shocked ponies "Discord!"

Everyponies eyes widen even more as Discord appears his head down like a child being scolded. "Yes mother?" Discord asks causeing everyponies jaw to drop.

"It is time to return home to the Sea. Go now." Twilight sighs shakeing her head her own body starting to turn into golden dust.

"You foolish foolish ponies.. I never did figure out what Mother saw in you.." Discord shakes his head and disappears.

"This form wasnt ready for our power... it wont last any longer... we guess this is goodbye former element bearers and Celestia." and with her last piece said her body disolves like dust in the wind

"... we bucked up didnt we?.." rainbow dash asks

"Yes rainbow dash.." Celestia starts to say only to be interupted as Luna comes charging into the room. "Yes we did..

"Tia what happened?!" Luna asks as she starts looking around noticing the ex-element bearers " And where is young Twilight Sparkle? We wish to thank her for this book on modern equestrian?" Luna asks with a small smile.

"... its a long story." Celestia says causeing the elements to look away in shame.

"Tia... where is Twilight Sparkle?..." Luna says slowly walking up to her sister.

"...Gone..." but surprisingly its not Celestia who speaks... but Fluttershy. "... Twilight's gone and its all our fault..." is all she can get out before breaking down sobbing.

"...and she took the power of the elements with her." Applejack says to Luna as she trys to comfort Fluttershy.

"... what have you done..." Luna looks at them wide eyed as they all look away in shame and one by one the girls tell her of what happened. Luna getting madder and madder with each word spoken before looking sharply at Celestia. " And you sister? What did you do to the one who saved us from our corruption?!" Celestia just looks away in shame.

Luna slowly walks over to the window Chrysalis was at earlier. "You each betrayed not only the elements you supposedly embodied... but also a young kind mare..." she looks at them sharply. "Rainbow dash... the supposed element of loyalty... to herself maybe..., Rarity...so called element of generosity... couldnt even GIVE Twilight the benifit of a doubt about her suspicions..., pinkie pie... element of laughter... the one who makes everypony smile... everypony but one it seems...," Luna and the former element bearers are in tears by this point. "Applejack... the bearer of the element of honesty... couldnt even tell her friend honestly needed help..., and finally... Fluttershy.... the one i would have never thought could do something like this... element of kindness... who couldn't give a hurting mare a kind word... from what i've heard... her life actually did depend on it..." Luna's voice cracks and she breaks down into sobs running out of the room.

"...We bucked up bad..." Celestia sighs "lets everypony go to their rooms and get cleaned up... after that... well... we'll figure out where to go from there..."
