Ponyville before the Rainboom...
A simpler town from a simpler time. Sure, sometimes something would come out of the Everfree for a bout, but for the most part, everything is pretty normal and relaxed for the quaint town. To most of the residents, this is exactly the way they like things: simple, ordered.
There are others who think the monotony is boring and scream to the heavens asking for adventure.
There are still others who know better - that adventure is around every corner in this town, and it is not as pleasant as many would like to believe.
Ponies are going to start disappearing. There will be a monster, a conspiracy, a crisis. But, for now, none of the ponies are aware of the excitement coming their way. The colts and fillies are preparing for a party - an event rather hard to come by these days. Perhaps they will enjoy their party, perhaps not, it really doesn't matter.
What matters is that danger is out there, and their eyes are about to be opened.
While this is inspired by Stranger Things, this is not a crossover.

I like that this story built up to the events of the show. At first, it seemed pretty out-there, but somehow it all worked out.

That was an amazing story! I loved it. I'm not usually the type to comment, but this story has so few views, I feel I have too...
Anyways, I have to say that my favourite parts about this story are the characterizations of Sunset and Surprise. I really liked how Sunset was portrayed as being in the process of turning evil, as in she seems at first to believe that she is doing the right thing for all ponykind, and that the ends justify the means, but when others condemn her, less than ethical actions, rather than rethinking her choices, she just defends herself, and succombs to the allure of power. It's a tricky mindset to get right.
Suprise was quite mysterious throughout, and despite being completely obvious, I didn't catch the connection to Pinkie Pie until chapter 10! and this is knowing that Pinkie was based on G1 white pegasus named Surprise.
Great story overall! I have read almost everything you have posted, and look forward to seeing more!
