The Bricklayer

Slow down, you're doing fine, you can't be everything you want to be, before your time... -Vienna, The Stranger: Billy Joel

Before I read this, what is the Gore and Dark tag for ?
And how bad does it get ?

It's Fallout Equestria in most cases, not Fallout: Equestria.
It's Kkat, not KKat.
It's caps, not bits(if we're talking FaE original before S&R day)

Is it complete or you clicked the wrong button?)

8383683
It's a crossover with Fallout. Do I really need to say anything about the tags?

8383860
No, the story's far from complete. These two chapters were just a test to see how well the story would be received and if it was worth writing.

Riptalon? Huh, certainly sounds interesting. So stupid question here, is this set before or after the original Fallout Equestria?

8384214
After, ten years to be exact. Also, fun fact that I probably should have mentioned in the Author's Notes had it crossed my mind at the time. Riptalon along with his soon to be companion originated in a roleplay, and then debuted in a non-Fallout Equestria related story. C'est la vie...

Thank you and that extra info was interesting

"Fallout: Equestria" is still the technically accurate title.

Gotta say, having an Enclave ship fall out of the sky is quite unusual for the first chapter of an Fallout Equestria story(not that I've read many recently) Also, what sort of stats and gear does Rip have? From what I see, he has a combat knife and some grenades so his tagged skills would be melee and explosives though I'm not sure if sneak is that great if some raiders caught him sneaking.

“You know why solder,”

soldier

you’re a real patreon of society aren’t you…?

Personally speaking, I'd go with saint but given the setting, 'patron'

So now we have a former Enclave soldier, possibly an officer if his PTSD flashback is anything to go by. At least he seems to be a decent sort, at least for the time being. I like the small nod to how Little Pip met Monteray Jack with how Jack was ready to kill her after she saved them from raiders. Though if it was unintentional, I still like it all the same.

Also, I find it strange how the remains of the former Pre-war residents of Old Appleloosa didn't get desecrated when the slavers controlled the town. Or why they didn't take the stuff inside the wrecked town.

You know you have a drinking problem when people call you the Queen of Whiskey...though I doubt Blackjack minds that much. I almost thought the recording involved SilverSpoon until I remembered what happened to the real one. Guess cutie marks get repeated every so often.

At least we know what the Gray Ghost is now...I think.:rainbowhuh:

8385108
Well, the thing is, like RuinQueen and her story Survivor's Guilt, I'm only taking parts of Project Horizons and using them. So unfortunately... Yes, that poor filly was Silver Spoon. As for her Griffon cellmate, I'll leave that one up to your own imagination.

8385354
Why do I get the feeling there will M/M shipping between the two main characters?

8385916
They do seem to have that dynamic don't they...?

Its a good chapter, I liked the use of the song Big Iron as well, that's one of my favorite songs from New Vegas.

8393464
Yeah, catchy song. Never thought I'd end up liking it. Funny thing, it was originally supposed to appear in Iron's intro chapter instead of a certain Ink Spots song, but I felt the "I don't want to set the World on fire" would be more nostalgic for the Fallout fans and anyways, I think it ended up being more fitting here in any case.

Looking good, well at least what I've read. Good Fo:E story to se after so long away from FimFic, keep it up!

Well, the romance seems to be starting quite early into the story but given that they survived both a group of raiders and some really tenacious coyotes/wolves, the adrenaline would help that along. Wonder if it will pan out...

While it's nice to know where you got the inspiration for the pack leader, I half expected it to start talking with it being so tenacious but I guess the radiation didn't give it vocal cords capable of speech along with that increased intelligence.

Also, I'm betting the initials stand either for Clear Skies, or Cloudy Skies.

To be honest, I thought about the coywolf having the ability of speech like the Hellhounds, but then I thought (In my mind at least) it would be far more frightening if it sounded like a normal animal, despite it having pony level intelligence.

between the eyes brain matter and blood flying

I recommend this alteration. 'between the eyes. Brain matter and blood flying'

Yao Gaui

Yao Guai

Huh, figured the coywolf could have become a recurring enemy though regardless of its intelligence, it was still an wolf that had lost its pack and a lone wolf rarely lasts long without it.

So Rip knows Henri...guess it would make sense since they're pretty much fugitives on the run though I think Rip has more than just Talons after him. Also, guessing the figure that saved Iron is probably the Grey Ghost acting as your version of the Mysterious Stranger. Or it's someone else that wishes to see Iron live another day...

And that's just it, it wouldn't really be much of a threat without it's pack to back it up, and without a pack to help it bring down prey it probably would have starved to death.

Also, guessing the figure that saved Iron is probably the Grey Ghost acting as your version of the Mysterious Stranger. Or it's someone else that wishes to see Iron live another day...

Well, you're both right and wrong at the same time... Not saying any more as well...

tower doesn’t me you can’t go

now can I Velvet Remedy

can I? Velvet

Aww, mentioning Puppy just made me cry a little...:applecry: (Really loved that story) At least now we know Henri joined up with Gawd's Talons...or Regina's Talons now in this case. Though I wonder who the other members of the party will be...or if any of the NCR troopers sent to join Henri will be alive when they meet.

Great chapter, only real comment is that Riva is a different character from the one in the RP we did on chat, sorry, I forgot to mention that before.

Also nice cameo by Alicia and Katie as well as Blackjack.

Good chapter, honestly not sure what else to say, good use of the universe, nice references and stuff, works well.

8519857
Yeah, this was a fun one to write, just setting an entire chapter on a train. I was actually sorta inspired by a level from the videogame Redsteel 2, just like how the Ghost Town level from the same game sorta inspired the entirety of Old Appleloosa. Basically, in the level I'm talking about, the main villain of the game -guy called Shinjiro- blows the entire train up on you except for the front part of it where he happens to ride and escapes, leaving the player character to wander the desert endlessly until reaching said Ghost Town. As for Sweet Pea, she was sorta half-inspired by a woman from the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, a cross dresser/stripper (I think, at least on the former. I'd have to go back and re-read the book, she may have been transgender.) calling herself/himself the "Queen of Savannah". Her sassy and flirtatious black southern attitude gave me the ideas for Sweet Pea's personality here. ...Yeah, I'm weird. I know.

That's interesting. I never read a Fallout Equestria story before. I like it, just don't get Midnight mixed up as a female again. :derpytongue2:

He's a guy, I swear!:raritydespair:

This was very entertaining.

8520059
Sorry, it's not like I see a lot of long haired males these days outside of rock and roll concerts. The mistake was a bit understandable, he does look a bit feminine. (Not like I have room to talk, as my ponysona is rather bishonen, really.)

Anyways, you're free to read the previous chapters if you want some backstory as to what's going on right now. Also, if you want to get invested in the FOE fandom and don't know where to start, you can always try RuinQueen's story, or the story Pink Eyes.

Also, I've got to ask, is there a Deviantart page or a Derpibooru page where I can find that piece of your OC?

8520616

8520059
Okay, just asking, but did either of you saw Sweet Pea's betrayal coming the moment you met her? I didn't want to make it too obvious that she was going to stab Target and company in the back.

*Whistles innocently*:rainbowwild:
Honestly though, it's been a while so I'm not sure why I'm responsible for the kill 'em all parts. Still, I enjoyed the fights Midnight and Target had on their respective segments. Kind of reminds me of action movies that cut back and forth scenes between the two main characters fighting against the baddie/minions.

Shame those troopers died so early, they could have been useful in future fights...oh well, more gear for the rest now I guess.

p.s: The NCR must have uncovered some collectors' stash of pre-war entertainment to have regained this much references after the war ended.

8520662
Damn, I thought I'd fixed all of the segments with Midnight being referred to as female! (Although, transgender pony... Hmm, interesting thought.:derpytongue2:) Anyways, about the Kill-Em-All bit, remember this quote?

Though I wonder who the other members of the party will be...or if any of the NCR troopers sent to join Henri will be alive when they meet.

That was your fault.

Anyways, now that I think about it, it is sorta like an action movie with cutting between Target and Midnight's segments. Hell, this whole story's been like an action film at times. Might need to slow it down a bit, just a tad as FOE isn't just about killing as many villains as you can and cleaning up the wastes. Okay, it's partially like that, but there still needs to be plenty of quiet character moments in the story.

p.s: The NCR must have uncovered some collectors' stash of pre-war entertainment to have regained this much references after the war ended.

Well, who knows really? I mean, rummage around in Stables or abandoned buildings like any good explorer in a open world game, (Or in this case, a universe inspired by an open world game) and who knows what you might find...

8520673
Ah yes, that...Oops:twilightblush: Well at least they died quickly? Oh wait, there was screaming so they likely suffered...er, moving on.

Hmm, being torn apart by the ghouls likely damaged or outright destroyed any gear they had. And with the train engine blown up, guess they'll have to hoof it for a while longer. Though I suppose introductions are in order if they're going to be working together.

8520124
Thank you, I'll definitely consider reading those recommendations.

I'll send you a link in a message.
8520647
Nope, I actually didn't see that coming.

“He doesn’t know how right he was…” Riptalon muttered. “I don’t know what Equestria was like before the war, but anything’s probably better than this nightmare. Sure, they say everything’s getting better but when you have the Enclave back after ten years of peace without them, you start to question if sometimes you should just go to sleep and not wake up at all…”

I don't mean to nitpick, but the Enclave hasn't exactly been at peace with the Wasteland, they have made at least two attempts at taking over and both failed.

“Kid, read a history book sometime… Hell, read Littlepip’s accounts of her adventure. Might learn a thing or two… First things first though, we gotta live through this suicide mission Regina’s put us on… Mount Pleasant Island,” Riptalon muttered with a dark chuckle. “Now there’s an ironic name for you…”

Nice reference to the irony of the name.

Well, to be fair I haven't read that many Fallout Equestria side stories aside from yours and Pink Eyes so I'm not up to date on everything that's happened in the Wasteland. Of course, it's entirely possible Riptalon himself may have taken one too many blows to the head and his memory's rattled a bit.

Nice reference to the irony of the name.

Never has there been a more ironic name for a place. What they really should be calling it is "Personal Suicide Mission Island" really. And something's just struck me, it's going to be one long ass journey to the island, considering Henri and company are all the way in the Western Side of Equestria, and Mount Pleasant Island is on the north. ...Well, least it's not as bad as the real deal would be if you would be crossing the US from say Arizona to Maine.

8533922 Well, except that was actually mentioned in Survivor's Guilt, heck chapter 4 was the tail end of one of their attempts... but its fine really.

So now every member of the party has a unique weapon now though I wonder if they'll stay with Rip and Iron from here on out, or lose them later on at Mount Pleasant Island(Most ironic name, ever) or some other location after. Hopefully they'll clean the blood off or else folks are going to assume the worse.

It's surprising how guns and booze seem to be the prevalent items that survive the ravage of war and time, and remain in good condition. I was half expecting to see Iron and Rip gulping down the whiskey and doing spit-takes from it having gone bad. Oh well, would have been out of place here anyways.

Well, to be fair in Riptalon's case, given that he's had that knife of his since his introduction, he's probably always had a unique weapon of some sort. I mean, he probably inscribed it with something just to make it "His". As for Iron, given his track record with guns (You remember the Carbine found in Old Appleloosa right?) that weapon probably won't stay intact for long. Though I admit you do have a point. I might have gone a bit overboard with the unique weapons thing.

As for Mount Pleasant being the most ironic name ever... Oh lordy yes, especially when you consider it's based off Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC.

But yeah, the blood's gotta go.

8570055
And now you got to see the full context of that certain line of Iron's I showed you on Discord. (Also, thought of another reason why Alicia's second Latin name choice wouldn't work, bit too masculine I think.)

8577713
Yeah, this was a fun one to write, from all the jokes and references, to the scene with Winter Breeze herself. One interesting thing I'd like to note is originally, I did plan for Henri and company to fight off the Enclave on the train in yet another Red Steel 2 reference, but I thought it'd make better drama if the train just got blown up outright and left exactly what happened sorta ambiguous.

And admit it, you laughed at Starlight's cameo.

Don’t let Littlepip know I did that okay? Please? Pinkie Promise? I’d never hear the end of it from her if she knew I just did that

Considering the fact that Littlepip has control of the S.P.P and it's entire network of monitoring equipment...I think it's a little late for that.:rainbowlaugh:

Well, they got rid of the bodies, too bad it only made them bloodier and garnered even more attention. At least Iron Skies' drunken antics will help ease the citizens of Neigh Orleans' worries about the 'Enclave pony'.

So is Calamity actually going to join Henri's party or will he merely be a cameo here? Cause if it's the former then the party's chances of success has just rose by a good margin.

p.s:Sorry about the lateness of my comment, your story didn't appear in my feed until today(along with a few others) Oh well, at least I have three whole chapters to read.

I agree that Henri needs some resolution after what she went through in Pink Eyes though given that this is the Wasteland, I sincerely hope it doesn't end in tragedy.

Also, whoever the historians were in prewar Equestria, they sure did a really good job of preserving history if enough of it survived to provide this much material, eh?:ajsmug:

Well, the welcome wagon certainly gave them a welcome they won't forget. It was interesting to learn that Blackjack is still actively helping the ponies of the Wasteland here instead of being with The Society in Hoofington. Though I suppose this takes place way before the end of Project Horizons.

Either way, Iron's background is slowly becoming clearer now and it's pretty damn good so far.

Also, how would you explain using that beasty in the story? Balefire radiation ala Godzilla? Pre-war experimentation? Or some evolutionary strain of dragon?

8578314
Okay, going to cover all three comments in one go. Cracks knuckles

Okay, that's um... Odd. But still, yeah. Three new chapters. And look on the bright side, haven't missed any Going Deep Under chapters. Um... Yeah, I think Homage might be in for some suitable embarrassment in the foreseeable future if Littlepip ever starts walking Equestria again.

I agree that Henri needs some resolution after what she went through in Pink Eyes though given that this is the Wasteland, I sincerely hope it doesn't end in tragedy.

Yeah, I'm going to try and give Henri her happy ending, as long as the events of Ruin's fic allow me to do so. Might even give her a chance to go up against a certain Nightmare Moon worshipping cult that's been mentioned time and again, and Gawd knows she'd hate that Goddess after what happened to Puppy. And, it's not like Ruin hasn't changed FoE: PH canon so that Morning Glory's still alive so I may have a bit of freedom here. It gets even more interesting, for the citizens of Neigh Orleans, as in Ruin's fic Wasteland Jewel Neigh Orleans had to deal with what's called Firerain for a while till it was eventually dealt with in Wasteland Jewel. From the wiki:

A hazard that plagues the area around Neigh Orleans, the weather seems to have been directly effected by the Megaspell that detonated in the city. Its considered extremely dangerous, even a few minutes of exposure can either kill you or turn you into a type of Ghoul called a Burning Pony Ghoul.

While the exact cause is unknown, it seems to be slowly spreading north and cannot be controlled by S.P.P. As a result, it was regulated for two centuries by the Enclave up until their fall.

Well, the welcome wagon certainly gave them a welcome they won't forget. It was interesting to learn that Blackjack is still actively helping the ponies of the Wasteland here instead of being with The Society in Hoofington. Though I suppose this takes place way before the end of Project Horizons.

Yeah, I wanted to give Blackjack some role here. Orginally, what she was doing was going to be given to Velvet Remedy, (And you can tell with all of that stuff about Alicorns) but she's helping out with the Followers of the Apocalypse so Blackjack had to get the role of spy instead.

And yeah, the welcome wagon... Could have been worse, as I told Ruinqueen below.

Glad you like Iron a bit more now, like I said, he was this sorta bland character. My next step is to work on Target, as she's even worse character wise. Thank you Enigma for giving me some inspiration.

As for the Skull Crawler and that's if I use it, probably radiation. Easiest explanation.

8578565
