Thievius: Eye of the Storm

Sly, Gilda, and Derpy emerged from the power tube and observed their surroundings, as it appeared that they were now on the back side of Raleigh's boat and there didn't appear to be any direct way up to the storm machine, though before they thought about it too much all three of them pulled out their binocucoms and connected back up with Bentley, as he likely had some news for them.

"Astonishing!" Bentley said, though he actually sounded impressed over something, which made the siblings happy to hear that he might have been impressed by something they did, "All of my calculations led me to believe that it would have taken the three of you an hour to clear out all four of those areas, and you did it in forty minutes."

"We aim to please." Sly replied, though that didn't stop the three of them from grinning, as they had been planning on doing things fast and collecting what they came from, so this only proved that they were quite skilled with their current set of skills, "So what's next?"

"I've found a way up to Raleigh's hideout," Bentley told them, which was great news considering that the storm was still present, though it was dying down now that the engine had been stalled by Gilda's earlier work, while at the same time all three of them sensed there was something else they weren't being told, "but..."

"Let me guess," Gilda said, turning her binocucom over to the cannon that was resting near where they were standing, one that happened to be locked down with seven locks, just like the generator had three locks before she and her siblings broke them and smashed the generator, "we have to shoot ourselves out of that cannon?"

"Unfortunately that's the only way up there, short of waiting an hour or two for the storm to die down so you and Derpy can fly once more," Bentley replied, once more bringing up why the sisters couldn't actually use their wings while they were on the boat's deck, despite the fact that they used them inside the boat, "and you're going to need all seven of Raleigh's Treasure Keys in order to access the cannon."

"Well, it's a good thing we already have five of them," Derpy spoke up, to which Sly and Gilda nodded their agreement, as they only needed a few more Treasure Keys and they would be able to access Raleigh's storm machine, "just show us where the last two holographic markers are and we'll get the keys... and any pages of the Thievius Racconus as well."

With their mission clear Sly, Gilda, and Derpy put their binocucoms away and headed towards the cannon, though instead of stopping near it they walked up the nearby tower and only came to a stop when they reached the top, as it gave them a good view of the back half of Raleigh's ship... along with the remaining two areas that the three of them needed to claim the Treasure Keys from.

"It appears that we have two options available at the moment," Sly said, taking stock of the two areas that needed to be cleared, where one had to have a page from the family tome and the other did not, "the first involves using that submersible to go underwater and do something to collect the Treasure Key, while the second objective appears to be heading into that tube and entering another important part of Raleigh's operation. So, whose up for using the submersible while the others tackle the area beyond the tube?"

"One, two, three," Derpy replied, though while appeared that Sly was more focused on what was in front of them, and was waiting for a proper response, Gilda knew exactly what her sister was doing, "not it!"

"Not it!" Gilda added, already knowing that by the time Sly realized what was going on he wouldn't actually be able to complain, as Derpy occasionally pulled this on their brother and he fell for it all the time, though sooner or later he'd surprise her and do it before she even thought about it.

"Not again..." Sly commented, to which he brought a palm up to his face and sighed for a moment, before he stared out at the two objectives and decided that he might as well roll with it, like he usually did, "Very well, since you two would rather explore whatever is on the other side of the tube I'll take the submersible and see what awaits me under the water... besides a Treasure Key anyway."

"Sounds like a plan." Gilda said, though as Derpy started moving towards the tube in question, and the guard that was patrolling the entrance, she rested a hand on her brother's shoulder, "Don't worry, I'll take care of Derpy and make sure nothing bad happens to her."

Sly knew that, after successfully navigating an area of Raleigh's boat, claiming some of the more expensive treasure that they could sell later on, and getting both the contents of the vault and the Treasure Key, all on her own he mentally added, Derpy didn't need someone watching over her all the time. Still, despite that fact, there wasn't much else they could do at the moment, so having Gilda follow after Derpy while she explored seemed like the best thing to do, so he simply nodded his head and Gilda followed after their sister, who had already knocked out the guard and was heading inside the tube. Sly chuckled at that as he made his way down to the walkway below the tower and crossed over to where the submersible was being guarded, because he was sure that his sisters would be able to complete their task without encountering anything too dangerous... to which he knocked out the guard and climbed into the submersible.

He also knew that, when they got back together after these last two objectives, they would tackle Raleigh and get back his section of the family tome... and then they would figure out who to go after next, once the first member of the Fiendish Five had been taken out.

When Derpy and Gilda emerged from the tube they discovered that the area of the boat they were in was like a ship graveyard of some kind, as the water level seemed to be the exact same was what was outside the boat and there were a large number of crashed ships all around the place. Before they could actually move one and investigate the area, while gathering all the clues and getting what they came for, the intercom turned on for a moment, meaning that Raleigh was going to speak to his crew and caused the sisters to remain silent for the next few seconds.

Ahoy, dock hands! Raleigh said, sounding pleased about something, while at the same time making the sisters wonder what information he was going to give them, even if he didn't intend for them to hear his words, Capital job unloading that cargo last night. You're the crown jewel of my operation. Do me the service of proving your worth yet again by protecting the Treasure Key that I have stored down there. It appears there is a prowler on the premises. And if any of you let him get his hands on that key, I'll personally flog the lot of you for an entire fortnight!

"So Raleigh thinks that there's only one thief instead of three." Gilda commented, though that made things interesting for them, since it appeared that their foe's goons or machines weren't telling him the entire story, "Well, he's going to be in for quite the surprise when we reach him."

"Yeah, and I can't wait to get to him," Derpy said, though as she looked around the area she thought about what they just heard and lingered on the last word their target had said, "Hey Gilda, what does 'fortnight' mean anyway?"

"I think it means a period of two weeks," Gilda replied, as she actually surprised that her sister even cared about the word, since it didn't really mean anything to the two of them, especially not when they were here for two specific items that likely were at the other end of the area.

"So if we took the Treasure Key, but didn't take Raleigh down, he'd flog his crew for two weeks straight?" Derpy asked, as that was what she was gathering from what they heard Raleigh say over the intercom, which only made her want to take the frog down even more.

Gilda nodded her head, as she guessed that Raleigh had said something to that effect, before Derpy sighed and decided that it was time for them to get started on their part of the operation, to which she turned to her immediate right and gathered the two clues inside the safe. While she did that Gilda collected the two bottles that were in the lower area in front of this ship's wheel, before helping Derpy ambush and knock out the guard that was standing at the edge of the ruined deck they were standing on. Once that was taken care of they noticed that there were two more clue bottles resting on some broken bits of ship between them and where the mast part rested, though instead of wasting time jumping around the sisters opened their wings and flew across the gap, though while Gilda knocked out the guard and turned off the alarm Derpy gathered the bottles... along with the two that were in the safe that the guard had been protecting.

Before they moved forward Gilda also spotted another bottle resting behind the bottom part of the mast, which she smashed and sent the information to Bentley, though that was followed by her and Derpy heading to the wrecked airplane that happened to be hanging above their heads... where they found a pair of bottles being completely covered by a searchlight, meaning they couldn't be taken at the moment.

Instead of bothering with the searchlights, and potentially setting one off in the process, Gilda flew around the moving beams and switched off the alarm, though as the beams faded away Derpy smashed the two bottles she had been staring at and sent their contents to Bentley. With those in hand she returned to where Gilda was standing and they moved around the circular tube that was in their way, like actual thieves, before they walked along some bits of an airplane's wing while spotting a pair of bottles ahead of them. Behind the bottles rested another guard, someone that Gilda knocked out while Derpy collected the contents of the bottles, though after that they discovered that the normal way for them to progress would have been to jump and grab onto a rope so they could pass over a guard's head. Instead of doing that Gilda and Derpy flew over to the next part of the area and knocked out the guard that happened to be patrolling the area, before collecting two more bottles that were at the end of the submarine that Raleigh's men had captured.

With that taken care of Derpy flew across the debris that were in front of them and collected the two bottles that were scattered around the area, while at the same time Gilda knocked out the guards that happened to be in the area, before landing and collecting the remaining three clues that were near her, as two were in a safe and the other was sitting around for anyone to claim. After that they followed the rope that was in front of them and found the area that the Treasure Key was located in, as well as the vault that rested in this area, though instead of opening it herself Gilda moved out of the way and let Derpy listen to Bentley, since she knew that Derpy wanted to claim at least one page of the Thievius Raccoonus before they finished off the Fiendish Five. Derpy waited beside the vault for a few seconds, letting Bentley finish up his calculations, before he had the combination, where Derpy turned to the tumblers and input 7-1-9, to which she discovered a page from the family tome... or, more specifically, Karin Coopergiwa's Coin Magnet technique, which meant that she, Gilda, and Sly would automatically collect any coins they came near.

The moment Derpy had the page in her hand, and had a smile on her face, Gilda snatched the Treasure Key from the case as the calling card was placed where it was supposed to go, before the two of them opened their wings and headed back towards the entrance of the area... while at the same time wondering how Sly was doing on his end of things.

Sly sighed as he descended into the depths with the submersible that he had liberated from the guard that had been protecting it, where he came to a stop in what appeared to be a circular shaped chamber with tubes scattered around the edge of the area. There were rocks and what could have been seaweed all around him, though as he rotated the submersible around, and observed the area that he would be going through, he found that the Treasure Key he was after happened to be floating in the middle of the area. He guessed that there was something specific he had to do in order to release the key from whatever was holding it in place, if his thoughts were correct, though as he familiarized himself with the controls he found that it came equipped with some guns, meaning that he likely needed to shoot something before he claimed the Treasure Key.

His thoughts were proven right as Bentley informed him that he had to grab all of the chests before Raleigh's crabs took even one of the chests into the tubes around him, while also informing him that the information was coming from the blueprints that Derpy had found earlier... to which Sly decided not to question why Raleigh thought this was a good idea and started firing at the crabs the moment they emerged from the tubes.

As it turned out it was rather easy to collect the contents of each chest while making sure that the crabs never took a single one towards their tubes, despite the fact that some of the crabs were lucky enough for a chest to land on their heads at random. Sly knew that Bentley would be able to sell the treasure they were collecting, and maybe hide some of it somewhere for later use in the future, so he collected everything he could and made sure that the crabs never dragged one of the chests away. From what he had been told he needed to get forty chests before he could claim the Treasure Key and head back to the surface, so while he worked Bentley cheered him on and made small comments about what was going on around him... before he claimed the last of the forty chests and claimed the Treasure Key, to which he headed back up to the surface and left the depths behind.

When he returned to the surface, and brought the submersible to a stop, he climbed out of it and walked across the platform that was in front of him, to which he walked over to where the cannon rested and found both of his sisters standing near it with a smile on their faces.

"I take it you found something in the other area?" Sly asked, though at the same time Gilda handed over the Treasure Key that she and Derpy had acquired, bringing their grand total to seven for Raleigh's base, meaning that it was time for them to reclaim the first portion of the Thievius Raccoonus.

"Karin Coopergiwa's Coin Magnet technique." Derpy replied, to which she happily handed him the page that she had been holding onto since she found it, where Sly smiled as well as he carefully stored it inside the binding that contained all of the other pages they had rescued so far, "All we have to do is stand near coins and let them come towards us."

"Nice." Sly said, as it was nice to have another part of the family tome to look over when they had some spare time, but before he got distracted he decided that it was time for them to get serious and looked up at the storm machine that was above their heads, "Well, since we've got all seven Treasure Keys now, shall we reveal ourselves to our unknowing host and claim what belongs to the Cooper Clan?"

Gilda and Derpy nodded their heads and let Sly use the seven Treasure Keys to unlock the locks that resting around the cannon, to which they came undone and the lid opened, meaning that they could now use the cannon to shoot themselves up to the storm machine. Since the cannon was too small for all three of them to fit inside it, and they couldn't sit two of them without hurting each other in the process, it was decided that Gilda and Derpy would test their luck and fly after Sly once the cannon had been fired. It was a risk since the storm machine was still operational, but with the size of the cannon, and not knowing if Raleigh had something installed that would seal a breach in the machine's exterior, they were going to have to put their faith in they wouldn't be shocked by lightning on the way to Raleigh's hideout. The moment the three of them were in agreement, and Bentley wished them all luck with the first member of the Fiendish Five, Sly climbed into the cannon and the lid closed behind him.

The sisters opened their wings as they watched the cannon turn towards the storm machine and point up until it was aiming right at it, though the moment Sly was launched from the cannon both Gilda and Derpy followed after him as he headed towards Raleigh's hideout.

After a few seconds of flying through the air Sly smashed through one of the glass windows that allowed Raleigh to see outside his storm machine, to which he landed on a platform that was floating on some water, along with a few more identical platforms that formed a circle around a central pedestal. A few moments later Gilda and Derpy flew through the hole he had created and landed on either side of him, where all three of them quickly looked around the area they were in and found that the open chamber was filled with machinery, which made sense considering what they were inside. That was before they spotted the frog they had been searching for, sitting on a red velvet throne and wearing a metallic hat that was taller than his entire body, staring down at them. At the moment Raleigh seemed uninterested in what was going on, but at the same time they knew that his interests could change and readied themselves accordingly, since they knew a fight was going to break out soon enough.

"How delightful. We have guests." Raleigh said, his tone suggesting that he was bored at the moment, though that was before they detected a hint of anger in his voice as he glared down at them all, while also waving a hand in the air for a few seconds, "The only thing is... I hate unexpected guests!"

"Listen, Raleigh." Sly stated, as he was happy to have finally caught up with a member of the Fiendish Five, to which he raised his cane and pointed the hook right at Raleigh for a few seconds, "Wipe out our family and steal what's ours, you had better expect company."

"Oh, I'm ever so sorry." Raleigh replied, though his tone indicated that he didn't care about the fact that Sly was threatening him, while at the same time he seemed to be thinking about something, "How sloppy of me not to finish the job. Obviously we should have snuffed you all out as well. So, without further ado, let me make amends by, what... squashing the lot of you like the insignificant pests that you are!"

"And how are you going to do that?" Derpy inquired, as she, along with her siblings, were interested in what sort of tricks their opponent had for them, especially since Raleigh was the chief machinist for the Fiendish Five, meaning that he had to have something interesting for them to face, "Did you create a weapon that channels the power of the storm machine so you can fire bolts of lightning, gusts of wind, or shower us with frigid rain? Or maybe some sort of fighting robot that expands from your throne and requires us to go through a certain process to weaken it's defenses?"

"Actually, I was going to bloat to a gargantuan size and squash you." Raleigh stated, though as he said that the siblings noticed that the wheels in his head were spinning, meaning that he was considering some new machines for when he bested them, "Oh well, I can still handle you with my own strength."

"Bring it on." Gilda challenged, to which she, Sly, and Derpy prepared themselves and readied their canes, as they knew that Raleigh would be coming after them with the intent of killing them, even though the three of them were simply going to knock him out before they left with his pages.

Raleigh glared at them as he opened his mouth and snatched one of the bugs out of the air that happened to be flying near his throne, to which his body did expand to an immense size and he jumped down onto the platform that was right in front of him, before coming to a stop on the central pedestal. When Raleigh descended to the platform that the siblings were standing on both Gilda and Derpy moved into the air and moved around as they searched for a weakness they could exploit. Sly, on the other hand, grinned as he moved away from the large frog that was trying to squash him, though after four or five more jumps Raleigh reverted back to his original size and Sly missed his chance to hit him, but his sisters slammed their canes into Raleigh while he was in the air, knocking him into the water for a moment... while at the same time Sly was thankful that his sisters had wings, as it actually made some things easier for them all.

A few seconds following his receiving of two canes to the face, and being knocked into the water, Raleigh jumped back up to the central pedestal and snatched another bug out of the air, though this time around the other platforms, save the one Sly was on, sunk and forced Sly to remain in a single spot. This time around Sly was ready for Raleigh, as he carefully moved around the platform when Raleigh landed on it and counted the number of times the frog jumped from place to place, as the moment he reached the five count Raleigh deflated and that was when he moved in. The instant Raleigh returned to his original size Sly smacked him with his cane and knocked him into the water, to which the frog growled as he returned to the pedestal and enlarged his body once more. This time around Sly was forced to move faster, as the platforms that Raleigh landed on as he chased him were designed to sink until he deflated, but he, once again, failed to account for Gilda and Derpy flying around the area... a fact he was reminded about when two canes struck him in the face as he headed towards the pedestal again.

The siblings could tell that Raleigh was in pain, as they could have sworn that he huffed for a moment as he got another bug and expanded his body, before he landed on Sly's platform and sunk the other ones, though this time around he spun around and used his tongue in an attempt to hit his target... to which Sly simply jumped over the tongue a few times before Raleigh stopped, where he smacked Raleigh and knocked him into the water. This time around, however, the siblings noticed that Raleigh had enough of the fight, as he went still as he floated in the water, though Gilda was quick to pull him out and verify that he was just knocked out. With that confirmed she also found a key on Raleigh's body, which happened to go to the safe that rested at the bottom of Raleigh's throne, though with that in hand the siblings moved over to the throne and did two things; disable the storm machine in it's entirety, to the best of their ability and what Bentley told them to do, and claimed the contents of the safe.

They soon discovered that Raleigh's section of the Thievius Raccoonus held detailed instructions on how to perform Rioichi Cooper's Ninja Spire Jump technique, which he developed while sneaking into the thickly fortified castles of Feudal Japan, along with some documentation on where Muggshot, the next member of the Fiendish Five, was located, which was Mesa City. With those two items in hand Sly let Gilda and Derpy carry him out of the storm machine, after leaving the calling card behind, where they spotted Carmelita and her squad moving in to arrest Raleigh's men... and they knew that, in a few days while they rested from this venture, they would see a picture of her, with a captured Raleigh, in the newspaper.
