Not bad at all. I like the specific ideas and details, such as Apple Bloom's sudden curiosity, being played well into the story. The pacing is good, the narrative is well written, and I think you should be happy with how it turned out.

Good Job!

Thank you! I have a bad habit of getting too excited to publish, but since I decided to wait until the "official" episode release to release this fic, I had lots of time to rethink stuff. I guess I ought to impose a buffer of a few weeks on myself for all my stories haha :twilightsheepish:

Glad you enjoyed!

Stories like this are bound to pop up eventually. Nice job.

Old Dan clearly couldn't survive without his Little Ann. Great job with this story.

Dammit, I am such a softy. :applecry:

Nice job. The pacing and narrative were good and the concepts were realistic.

And I love the background music you chose. It definitely helped set the mood.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

If it makes you feel any better, I have plenty of uplifting non tear-jerker stories  , although many aren't as well written or paced as this one. It's hard to strike a balance with background music choices. I had another one that I really liked, but it got overbearing and too loud after a few minutes. I think I've used this one 2 or 3 times now.

Wow, this was an amazing story. I really appreciate the addition of background music, I really wish more stories would do something like this (especially considering how perfectly it fits the narrative here). I can tell you really have a knack for writing stories like this since with every paragraph I felt like my heartstrings were being tugged to their breaking point (which is a good thing, mind you).

Thanks for such a thoughtful review!

I do like putting background music on, although it's tough to find ones that are low-key enough to not be distracting. I like writing stories that evoke emotions that pull on heartstrings, that's for sure. But I always think it's so much better when you can find a way to flip it around and become something cathartic or uplifting in the end. So that's what I try to do.

Thanks!

I know it will probably never happen, but I wish/hope Hasbro would do something like this, to show our friends at a really dark spot in their lives and learning how to get through it in a healthy way. The ambient music is perfect and really added to the feelings of loss, I
felt like a lead weight was attached to my heart while reading this heartfelt story. Your stories might not be epic adventures or dramas in what I like to call fan-novels, but you have a way with words and the inclusion of music is a real bonus,I wish you luck in all your future writings and consider yourself added to followed authors.

Thank you, that's very kind!

It'd be tough to write an episode that deals so heavily with death and still "fit in" enough with the show's style. There's just no room for humor, really. It's meant to stay in the realm of fanfiction.

I also really want to write a decent adventure story though, but the scope and scale of things just overwhelms me. I get bogged down way too easily (probably why all my stories are one-shots, pretty much)

I understand the feeling of being overwhelmed. Some advice I have heard from other authors when tackling a longer story is get down what you can then put it away for a while and come back to it. Frankly, I ha've enjoyed your stories as they are and say work within your comfort zone initially and you gradually improve you can slowly move those boundaries further from center if you catch my drift. In any case, best of luck and happy hearthswarming or whatever holiday traditions you follow.

A sad but sweet tale. Thanks for writing.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Sad but ultimately uplifting is one of my favorite styles to write.

I made another editing pass through this story today, as its one I'm more proud of and I thought it deserved some extra love. Mostly just grammar and flow changes, with a few omissions and additions as well though.

The fact that I’m finding this 5 years later is a testament to your writing.

You made me cry. I rarely, if ever, cry when reading. And yet, you just did the near impossible.

Very bittersweet tale, with a slight undertone of tragedy. Amazing work, PonyThunder!

Thanks! And sorry, heh :twilightsheepish:

Also, you just inspired me to do another editing pass of this story lol. I haven't written in a while but it feels good to dip my toes back in just a little bit. There's a lot that could be improved with flow in particular.

Glad I could help. :pinkiehappy:

Wow this nearly brought me to tears. I never was the type of person to cry over a book or a show or a movie but mlp was always different and this just proves that to me. I love how you wrote this and its one of the only fan fictions of these two that I actually enjoyed. Good work :moustache:
