Long before the war, the lands of Equestria were knitted together with a blanket of steel rails and wooden cross-ties, tracks that stretched to connect every major and minor settlement across the country. Even after the destruction wrought by the balefire bombs and megaspells, the tracks that tied Equestria together remained vital, and as the world recovered from the apocalypse the technologies needed to bring such a massive form of transportation and communication came with it. While the trains that ran following the megaspells rarely carried similar cargo to those that ran prior, the payments for the irreplaceable service still flowed, for better or worse. Those who held strong objections to hauling the newer commodities of a post-apocalyptic world rarely lasted long in the railroad business, and even for those who managed to avoid pulling those trains, it's most always ultimately delaying the inevitable...

Set during roughly the same canon as Gamma Deekay's Fallout Equestria: Long Haul, recommended reading to understand a few of the nods and moments seen, and a few locations as well!

Ah nice another train themed story! This looks good. Nice cover image BTW. At glance that looks a little like Henry from the Thomas the Tank Engine show.

red and log-shaped out of one of the toolboxes

one of those fancy self-oxidized logs

makes me think of Doc Brown's version of Presto Logs from Back to the Future III.

Yeah I can see why Water Case wouldn't want those Kipper's fire box...

It's weird because I have to convince myself that this all takes place BEFORE Empty Quiver. :pinkiesad2: You never realize how used to reading about certain characters you get until the story is over, you know? Still, it's nice to have a bit more of them again, even if it's not in Static or Strike's story!

Also, it's good to see that Prince Brayef has the same tendency his brother does to hire complete assholes as his help. Sure does make the guy so much easier to hate, and the moment I read that Case refered to him as she did, I had a smile on my face.

Overall, a nice little setup chapter. Get to meet the asshole in charge (and unicorn friend!). Oh, and there's that jerk of a stallion who works for the prince, as well as his unicorn friend I guess. :pinkiecrazy: I'm kidding, but I like the dynamic that Case and Crown have. They feel like believable co-workers in my opinion! Oh, and of course I love all the little bits you've got in about how things are up north! But yeah, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this, and seeing what others think of it as well!

He works with a huge steam-powered thing all day! And he has nightmares about it? Honestly...

I can actually relate with Crown Sheet on this one. I have similar issues from time to time. Although they arent nightmares...just unpleasant dreams.

A nice fun start, I'll look forward to seeing the rest of it.

Sweet an update. Glad to see this continuing.

Well I don’t feel bad for Boomer if he gets what’s supposedly coming to him. That guy’s a dick.

You know, for as angry as Boomer was at having to go up the switchback, the least that asshole could do if he wanted to get going sooner is get out and push...

Huzzah for Crown not completely freaking out at meeting Ottie! I mean, hey, it could have gone worse! :pinkiehappy:

Can't wait to read the next one, even though I'm sure it's going to be a lot more entertaining for us than for Casey and friends!

Just found this, need more please!

When in doubt, grab an energy drink... or ten. I wonder just how hard he's going to end up crashing once the accumulated exhaustion actually kicks in.

Yes, faking one's death usually works better if you have some sort of evidence for it. I mean, you could always try really hard to convince them yourself! But hey, the 'long lost twin' defense doesn't always work, but I'm sure it's much more convincing if used along with a revolver shotgun to get the point across!

Like railway torpedo, mercenaries are prone to becoming more and more unstable overtime. It's best to allow a professional with the correct equipment dispose of them in a safe manor. Railway safety should be an engineer's top priority, and anything that could potentially be a hazard to operation, is best removed from the cab in an expedient manor.

But huzzah! Another great chapter down, and another chapter closer to completion! :pinkiehappy:
