IfFoundReturntoRarity

I'm someone who is just jumping back into the writing ring, after avoiding it for so long. Rarity is my favorite, so expect to see a lot of her! I plan to write more slice of life kind of fics.

E

Adagio Dazzle hates her life. She spends most her time alone in her shop, crafting a wide array of jewelry, but her shop is often empty. That is, with the exception of Sonata Dusk, an Earth pony who strives to become a famous singer, but with little success. However, Sonata begins to find such fame after purchasing a necklace from Adagio, yet her growing fan-base seems to be a little... open to persuasion. Now made aware of powerful possibilities, Adagio crafts a necklace for herself, and pursues a course to make sure she ends up on top. Because in the end, what's the point of pretending we're all the same, when some of us shine brighter?

This is an unusual take on them and their story, I'm interested to see where it goes

Thank you for that! Yeah with how much room there is for interpretation with their origin story, I wanted to try to do something unique that made their characters stand out more, while still fitting into what is established. I hope you enjoy where it goes!

Cool. Adagio kind of reads like a poor man's Rarity so far but i will see where it goes

Thanks! That's interesting you bring up, because that's somewhat how I wrote Adagio, the more I thought about her. Of course they're both on completely separate paths, but as I wrote I felt like Adagio was a horrible reflection of Rarity. Evident in bits like "Life is a Runway" for example, Rarity is very good at making ponies feel good about themselves, in such a way to make them like who they are, bringing out the best in them. Adagio on the other hand, demonstrated through songs like "Battle", shows a similar talent of being able to make people feel best about themselves, but she does it in such a way to make them look down on others, and have a disgusting sense of superiority. This is of course because she thrives on the conflict it brings up. Rarity builds up ponies so they appreciate who they are, Adagio builds up ponies so they tear down others.

I hope that makes sense!

Where is Aria in all of this? And who drew the cover art?

Aria has a role to play that makes her important to show up later in the story, as opposed to right now. She's on her way, so to say.

I drew the cover art myself, actually!

All right, it's up! You did a great job here, and I can't wait for the next installment.

8228476 That's a very interesting idea... I had not thought about it like that before. I'm not sure I agree with you, but I will definitely give it some further thought. Thank you for saying it!

Beautiful start, except for the lack of Aria :trollestia:

I admit that I’ve always been fond of the stories where they end up at least sort of liking each other underneath all the snark, so I’m hoping that Adagio’s apparent disdain towards Sonata mellows out a little, but if you keep up this level of quality I think it’ll be a lovely story either way

Haha, don't worry about Aria! Like I said in a previous comment, with the way I would like to tell this story, it's important for her to show up a bit later, but she's coming soon. :raritywink:

Thank you for the very kind words!

My name, is Aria. Aria Blaze.

Really like how this is going so far. The first-person and present tense makes it quite a unique read, and it seems like you’ve got a wonderful siren origin in mind.

It could maybe use a little more editing, though. This was the most glaring error since it was right at the start:

She appears to still be able to harness magic from it, and yet at the same time, completely oblivious to it.

Thank you for that! I appreciate it. I'm really glad you're liking it, like I said before I really want to try something original.

I'll go through the editing one more time, thanks for pointing that out, sorry!

How good are you at drawing Equestria Girls style humans?

Hey, you posted it. As always, you did a good job, and the others are right, this is the most unique origin story for the Dazzlings I've heard. We're already looking forward to the next one.
