For Want of a Nail: A Different Mane Six

What if Twilight and Spike never reached Ponyville? what if because of a mysterious storm they had fallen off short of Ponyville?

Twilight decides to forgo getting to Ponyville and continue on her quest to learn about and find the Elements. They meet a bad tempered griffon, two con ponies in hiding, a clumsy Pegasus and a zebra that only speaks in rhyme.

Could these six individuals still possess the Elements of Harmony and stop Nightmare Moon?

I have to admit, the start to the story is an interesting inversion of traditional Alternate Mane 6 Stories mainly because it starts with the adventure already successfully completed, without revealing which ones got which Elements. . The selection for Element Bearers is pretty interesting too (mainly because it's an equal number of canon good guys and canon antagonists) . I'm definitely going to be curious as to see how Twi met these new Element Bearers:

Now, obviously, Twi still got the Element of Magic, but I'm going to hazard a guess that Muffins/Derpy got the Element of either Laughter or Kindness (she would be an excellent candidate for either one) and Gilda got Element of Honesty (since I could DEFINITELY see her as a "brutally honest" type). I won't hazard any guesses on Zecora or the Flim-Flam's Elements though .

If I could make a couple of suggestions, maybe you could include an epilogue chapter following the end of the flashback that has Twilight returning to Canterlot JUST long enough to pack a few prized belongings for her move to Ponyville (since Muffins/Derpy DOES live in Ponyville, Zecora lives CLOSE to Ponyville and Gilda has a friend who lives in the Ponyville area) and explain things in pony to her parents and big brother, only to realize how badly she unintentionally hurt Moondancer and set out to fix things now that she finally realizes how good it feels to have friends (in other words, "Amending Fences" happens MUCH sooner than in canon). And, after Twi patches things up with Moondancer, Twi could then help out Zecora around Ponyville and help the town gain a much better understanding of her new friend .

Of course, if you don't like the suggestions, I will completely understand and profusely apologize for wasting your time.

At any rate, I will definitely be looking forward to more of this, but will also be quite willing to be patient.
