Arcainum

I write stories about pony superheroes and cruel and unusual tragedies and pony superheroes who suffer cruel and unusual tragedies. I'm currently looking both fine and OK.

E

A compilation of my entries to Thirty Minute Ponies, as and when I make them. Quality and content will be... variable.

Chapters (25)
Comments ( 88 )

Oooh, story prompts. I really need to participate in one of these some day.

So were Celestia and Luna just regular unicorns and then ascended for the good of all ponykind? Kinda morbid but who knows, right? Darn ponies and their lack of friendship!

So I take it this was inspired by that alternate ending for the Royal Wedding? That was creepy and so is this.

Not much more to say but keep at it!

Ignoring my belief that despair and Ponies shouldn't mix; You do a really nice job of delivering that hopelessness in a brief piece. There's a lot of focus: all this says is "Chrysalis is winning, there's nothing you can do about it, and that's bad." I have a feeling that the repetition of "She [x]" was more due to time constraints, but I still have to point it out as doing a good job in reinforcing the desperate, instinctual feeling of the scene.

Anyway, compliments, basically. It's cool seeing you write towards emotions and styles that I haven't really seen you do before.

These thirty minute things are stupid, it shows much more talent to take your time and come up with a brilliant story.

Interesting cutie mark story...

Geez, Cheeselegs can hold a grudge.

900641 Alternate what-now?

900797 It's weird, I've been watching TMP for about 15 prompts now and every idea I've had has been dark. Apparently dark shortfics are just are just where my mind goes in a crisis x) As for the "She x," it was deliberate, but probably would've been modifed if I'd had more time. The time-limit makes things really interesting - you find yourself doing things you wouldn't otherwise do because you don't have time to think about them or change them.

917348 oic. I like the implication that she's going to be turned into a changeling herself. But no, I'd never seen that! The spur-of-the-moment plot I had in mind was that some time after the season finale, the changelings infiltrated and kidnapped Twilight. I'm not sure what I thought about they reproduced, just that it was horrible.

Okay, that was kinda creepy.

So the Shadowbolts weren't just a manifestation of Nightmare Moon's, then? What a :twistnerd:

Keep 'em coming!

And she could have been captain in the first place. Silly cults.

Oooooh. I: want one too! :pinkiehappy:

"Show you a good time."

AJ is unamused. :ajbemused:

Seems legit. I :rainbowlaugh: at the non-reaction of the two.

"Nephew's Husband's..."

alrighty, then.

"So what does that make us?"
"Absolutely nothing!"

:rainbowlaugh:

I liked this chapter! Anti-jokes (when done well) are often miles better than just a joke would be.

Aw man! You beat me to it! :raritydespair:

I kind of wish you would make this a full blown story, cause it seems really interesting.

Ok, you win. That was really funny. Perfect length fr the joke, too.

I pretty much spent the entire story with an increasingly "what" look on my face, but I'll admit that the ending made me laugh.

Ezn

Letting your inner Blueshift loose, I see.

I loled. Good job.

1110880
Now that's a compliment to be proud of!

But when will the tree speak up?:yay:

I swear I remember a Loony Toons cartoon that did this exact same thing. Good times.

Only Pinkie Pie. Only Pinkie Pie... :pinkiegasp:

1112031

I actually thought that was the joke: she was a tree, but got made into a table! (And somehow still alive.) :pinkiegasp:

I knew it! I'm onto you, Arcainum! As soon as I saw the prompt for this chapter, I knew it would be a pony being ridden by a bed.

Dude, you need to stop making these, because every other chapter makes me wish they were full blown stories and I want to read more of this story right here, but you're not gonna write it and that makes me sad.

Never change Arcainum. Never change.

You got to wonder if Twilight's presence in Ponyville is the reason that the town goes through so much trouble. It's not like the town went through natural disasters before she moved there...

Huh. I like the idea that the crusaders never gained their cutie marks but inspired others to keep searching for that certain something that made them special. The never-ending crusade.

Neat and thought provoking.

You should totally write that bar one. I just know you could make it work.

Ever think of expanding on this? It's got my interests peeked at what this could all mean.

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Pretty cool and terrifying. I suspect you have quite a universe to explore here if you ever felt up to it.

Ezn

Feels... :fluttercry:

I've been reading backwards and now I see why you wrote more in this universe. It's a fascinating idea.

These are the kinds of short fics I really enjoy -- the ones that show a brief scene in some fascinating universe that your imagination just runs away with after you finish reading.

Alright, now for the commemorative spoon!

It was Bessie, I know it!

You know it's dead on accurate. Twilight based it on her own schedule.

What time is it? Rarity Time! :raritystarry:

Which comes just before sexy time. :twilightblush:

This is cheesy and sweet in exactly the way shipping needs to be and I love it. Never stop.

Huh. I wanted to compliment how well you conveyed Rarity's attitude of getting lost in her preconceived impressions, and Twilight's ridiculous unreasonable plans and emotional overreactions, but then I realized I'm not sure that describes either of them. The stereotypes they've evolved into, sure, but I noticed I completely lost track of the pony's actual characterizations awhile ago, as opposed to common portrayals of them. Fandom is hard! Regardless you did a good job at characterizing whoever these two are in a way that's adorable.

Anyway that means I'm up to date and can go back and comment on the other ones now! Or just do it here.

Layered Deception: Hilarious. I will always respect your ability to pace an ascent into madness, and to know exactly how far you should go. (The answer is just further than the reader thinks you will.) Pinkie here has some great Pinkie lines, too. ("If there’s another Fluttershy, that’s like having a whole new friend and the old one!")

Faith: Absolutely beautiful and poignant. The CMC finding a great philosophy, and changing the world is wonderful to see. And then tragedy of it being twisted so that things are exactly the same. That kind of simultaneous optimistic and pessimistic display of the world is what I live for. And then you paint such a full rich image of this world in less than a thousand words.

A Beautiful Heart: And then there's this. It's good, sure, I'm interested in what kind of thriller adventure is going on; Blue manages to be the perfect protagonist, gathering sympathy, being a point where she needs a journey to sort out her life, it's an interesting world that just begs to explored and turned upside down; but, well, it just seems so at odds with Faith. Faith managed to hit me right in the navel gazing, but this steamrolls all that and just gives me promises of suspense and excitement. But now that I'm interested you've got to continue it.

Bullies: All I have to say is that the scene from Madoka jumped into my head immediately. I'll count that as a plus for capturing "dangerous" and "supernatural".

That was marvelous. :rainbowlaugh:

Dude, there so needs to be an emoticon of that white pegasus. The :yay: just isn't enough sometimes.

It's amazing just how much you can cram into 1,000 words. A shy couple dancing elegantly, followed by revelations and arrests and finishing on the prompt itself. Tell me your secrets oh wise one! :trollestia:

Nice one!

An evil mastermind crushing a spark to torture its owner with excruciating pain? Oh my, the nostalgia.

Heh, classic case of the creator falling in love with their creation. Is there any better form of the perfect date?

That robot has his head screwed on correctly.

Ah yes. The old "If I can't make a woman love me, I can always just make a woman!" routine.

Also, Fluttershy in a lab coat! D'aww, so cute!
