Earth pony enthusiast

I knew there was a special group of fillies in Ponyville . . .

After Princess Celestia used the Elements of Harmony to banish Luna, the magical gems went dormant. Celestia realized that she was not destined to bear them again. Instead, her destiny was to find new Bearers and give them as much or as little guidance as they needed. Even if it took a thousand years.

I knew there was a special group of fillies in Ponyville . . .

Is this from the actual show?

From the S7 premiere.

10/10 chapter.

Sunset was written PERFECTLY.

It flows with the story so well and gives connections and covers plot holes the show and movies did not address.

Thanks for the opportunity to help you with this story as well.

Thanks for your help! Glad you liked Sunset’s role.

Ah yes, Pudding Claus. An appropriate adaptation of a gift-giving entity to a different holiday.

Oh, Sunset. You'll learn. Eventually.

Huh. Odd that the Shy family refused to see Celestia. I wknder what the story is there.

In any case, this looks like it's going to be very interesting indeed. I do like a good benign puppetmaster Celestia. I look forward to seeing where you take her.

Odd that the Shy family refused to see Celestia. I wknder what the story is there.

It’s a combination of Fluttershy’s parents being intimidated by Celestia and thinking it was best to give their daughter peace and quiet after her ordeal. Zephyr Breeze was all for meeting the princess, but he was outvoted.

And “benign puppetmaster” is a perfect description of Celestia.

I am intrigued.

I think you portrayed that family fabulously!

It's a good thing Twilight put Spike down before Celestia revealed the day's lesson. The surprise might have sent the poor lottle dragon through the ceiling.

Perhaps she had stage freight.

I don't think that's what they mean by "carrying emotional baggage." :raritywink:

I'm kind of surprised to see Pinkie still helping with the rock harvest. I suppose she won't be moving out quite yet.

Fate is clearly on Celestia's side. These coincidences are too suspicious otherwise.

So she went word ahead

sent word ahead

This will definitely be interesting to watch develop.

Fixed, thanks!

Good points. Thanks for pointing out the typo.

Hype intensifies:pinkiehappy:

And that's how Pinkie became the second youngest member of the Equestrian Bureau of Investigation. (Don't ask. It's a long story.)

Sweetie Belle's grin widened. “Yes,” she said with deliberate nod.

Some may see this as a toddler using one of the few words she knows. Some see it as one whose talent is aiding destiny demonstrating that talent at an age where she doesn't understand what she's doing, only that she should. Both have a point.

And it wouldn't be one of your stories without some applied earth pony magic. Always nice to see.

In all, a very nice chapter. And I won't deny that I saw a bit of myself in that Twilight.

Sure, we'll go with both. :raritywink:

Apple Bloom, though? She was just hungry.

Yeah, I can't seem to write a pony story without inserting a clear demonstration of earth pony magic. It's just so much fun to write yet I still don't see stuff like that in other fanfics, at least not as often as I'd like.

So... is there a reason for all the massive spacing?

8230729
Oh wow that is weird. I'll see if there's a quick way to fix it.

I would never have expected it, but my mom and dad go on and on about what a sweetheart he is and how easy he is to take care of compared to unicorn foals.

"He's only set the carpet on fire twice in the past week!"
"Such a well-behaved little colt."

And so the subtle machinations continue. Well, anything looks subtle in a chapter with Bow and Windy. Still, the pieces are coming together, and even Twilight's making a little progress.

8243439
Bow and Windy almost make Pinkie look restrained in some ways.

Noticed that this didn't had the tiny hand painted in green. Don't panic, I already fixed it.

Another lovely chapter. I loved Uncle Spectrum.

Thats your personal flair with fan fictions and I personally love it.

Well, this is shaping up to be a very interesting story indeed. Looking forward to more!

A satisfying story, though I find it a little distressing how much of a chessmaster Celestia's being.

8411631
Thanks. There are different ways to interpret Celestia's personality, but chessmaster makes the most sense to me.

I loved every word of this story.

And so, after years of struggle, the pieces are arranged and the game can unfold. Not that Celestia views these events in such belittling terms. Still, she definitely earned the happy beginning. Thank you for the behind-the-scenes peek.

I still love reading through this. :rainbowkiss:

Pinkie was quite excited when the pegasus builders had constructed it, and she'd borrowed a balloon to fly up close to it.

I just want to say that it’s very cute that Pinkie borrowed a balloon. Like, this really is so much like her.

For what it's worth, I actually think it's extremely strange that Spitfire and Fleetfoot are privates, and in the service at all, at this point, at least going by the norms of human militaries. This is for a number of reasons. First of all, the Wonderbolts are modeled on the elite fighter squadrons of the US Navy and Air Force, which only accept officers. I imagine given the ranks given to canon Wonderbolts, and the units that inspired them, this holds the same for Wonderbolts. Newly minted Wonderbolts would be fresh out of the Academy, but would still hold commissioned rank, thus they would most likely be lieutenants, or possibly ensigns if their originating service were naval in nature (like Commander Easyglider). That students in the Academy are cadets supports this, seeing as cadet is the designation of an officer in training.

That brings me to the second point: lower officers still tend to be older than similarly lower enlisted. Whereas one might enlist as young as 17 in the US, officers must have a college degree before they can attend candidate school, or they must graduate a military program or ROTC. The Wonderbolts obviously are less rigorous (requiring, evidently, only a passing score on the entrance exam, successful completion of the Academy, and a compulsory tour as a reservist), but nonetheless, a full-"fledged" Wonderbolt would no doubt have a few more years--and possibly even some prior service behind them. Spitfire and Fleetfoot would likely be in their early twenties, here.

This leads to some confusion as to their age now. Spitfire is a captain in a command position, now. Command is usually a new captain's first assignment, and they're usually still a little wet behind the ears when they step into the role. My own CO is just hitting 30. Late 20's is not unheard of. Note that my timeline is based on the US Army, and I understand the USAF to move faster. On the timeline you've given here, Spitfire should be sitting pretty in a comfy staff position until she picks up for Major, her only real duties being sipping coffee and meeting fitness standards.

This all tells me that Spitfire and Fleetfoot were probably not in the military at this point. They're no doubt a few years older than Rainbow Dash, seeing as Spitfire has two ranks on Dash, but only enough to have the time in service. I can see Rainbow Dash having actually competed with them, if she competed often in older age groups, which totally seems in-character for her, although admittedly the flashbacks seem to suggest they're much closer in age. (Incidentally, I can see how Rainbow Dash's detour to Ponyville would have actually delayed her own entry into the service, and she could in fact be very close in age to the other two, but have lower rank by virtue of her later commissioning.)

8506810
Wow, great commentary! I admit my knowledge of military rankings is a bit fuzzy. I do know that it took my brother 7 years to reach the rank of lieutenant in the National Guard. But I didn't stop to think about how much more of a stretch it would be for Spitfire to move up from private to captain in 12 years. Do you think I should give Spitfire and Fleetfoot a higher rank? I don't want to change the story too much, so I don't really want to replace them with OCs.

This is pretty close to how I envisioned Celestia pulling the strings to nudge all of the Element Bearers into Ponyville at just the right moment, and it also captures very well just how close she cut it. For what it's worth, I had actually imagined that Rainbow Dash's arrival in Ponyville was no coincidence, either. Indeed, when Celestia had learned of Rainbow Dash dropping out of Flight School, and her subsequent application to the weather service, I had a headcanon that Celestia had even sent a letter of recommendation to the weather service and had them assign Rainbow Dash to Ponyville.

I love how you had Pinkie's Welcome to Ponyville party for Twilight be Celestia's idea. The way the conversation plays out, it totally recontextualizes Twilight and Pinkie's first meeting. Because Pinkie doesn't actually gasp and go full Pinkie Pie until she hears Twilight say her full name, which Pinkie, having been told to plan this party, would have, of course, memorized. It's not so supported by Pinkie's explanation later in the episode, but headcanon accepted, nonetheless.

8506969
Ha, I love contextualizing and re-contextualizing events that happen in the show.

But getting back to Equestrian military ranks, you also made me realize how Shining Armor is probably a lot older than Twilight. I always thought of him as being in his late 20s but he could be in his 30s if he's captain of the royal guard.

It sounds to me like your brother began as enlisted, and either completed a college degree and ROTC/OCS, or went through the green to gold program. That's certainly another potential path to become an officer, but if there are equivalent programs in Equestria, Privates Spitfire and Fleetfoot would likely not be Wonderbolts, but serving in a support capacity. But that even presupposes an enlisted corps in Equestria. I don't believe I've seen privates, corporals, sergeants, or petty officers in any of Equestria's military, if memory serves. It's also entirely possible Equestria's military has no enlisted corps, not unlike the original imagining of Gene Roddenberry's Starfleet, in which case, I believe Spitfire and Fleetfoot would be lieutenants, if not cadets, if it's necessary that they be the Wonderbolts who recovered Fluttershy in the first place. Though, strictly speaking, I think it's more believable that they are only a couple years older than Rainbow Dash, and joined up a few years before she did.

As for Shining Armor, you make an interesting point. Indeed, being in command like he is, I can definitely see him being in his late twenties, at the youngest. BBBFF seems to support this, seeing as he's definitely a young stallion (though not yet quite old enough to join the military) before Twilight has gotten her cutie mark.

It makes more sense for Spitfire to be a pinch older than Rainbow Dash, ten years or so.

This was a very well-done little story. Thanks for the look into both Celestia and into the future Element-bearers.

This was a delightful read! I really love seeing the bearers grow and change and you really capture Celestia's inner monologue beautifully.
