I always hated this debate.
Honestly, I saw the name "Derpy Hooves" as a nickname. Not to mention that the name was pretty far from being formal, I always would have considered having other characters using that as an insult/nickname in a playful manner.
If it really means that much to you, I can always edit.

Regardless of her name being canon or not; it's still a nickname nonetheless. In fact, many others have used the name Ditzy Doo in their work instead of Derpy. They may have the same view as I, being that Ditzy sounds more serious rather than a playful name such as Derpy which was founded off of her appearance.
I believe her name was originally Ditzy Doo on the show. Although I may not be certain about that information, my point still stands.
Again, many others have addressed her as Derpy, hell, even my editor wanted to call her Derpy (he also changed every time I said "Ditzy" to "Derpy" in the revised version of my story, which I changed back).
But if people want to call her Ditzy, please let them do so. Either name is acceptable, I think we can agree on that.

896705 Does it really matter that much? Derpy and Ditzy Doo are both canon. The way I see it Derpy is probably Ditzy's nickname, so she also has a cannon nickname. Its fine.
