"And prrecisely how am I to prroperrly assist these industrrial charracterrs with theirr faulty furrnace???" Kepler rasped as Rainbow Dash led him towards a "quiet" corner of the sweltering factory.
"I don't know!" Rainbow Dash smiled at him. "You tell me!"
The wyvern blinked thinly at her. "I would verry much have apprreciated yourr discussing this latest venturre with me beforre you so brrazenly decided to volunteerr my experrtise!"
"Oh suck it up, ya hairy splooge," Logan droned, joining the group as several of Kirbo's Smelt-Blood companions shuffled up to the workbench with torches and glass-blowing equipment. "You've gotten us through even crazier miracles before. Here—at least you've got a little work area and all the equipment you could possibly ask for in this world."
"Probably the only equipment in the world," Rainbow Dash droned, gazing across the amber-lit reaches of the heated interior. "This place should be heaven to you."
"Hrmmmffff..." Kepler set down his bags full of alchemic equipment. "Even still. You have both put me in a rrattherr uncomforrtable place!"
"Keps..." Rainbow leaned towards him so that she was visible before his squinting eyes. "...I wouldn't have chosen you for this task if I didn't think you were capable of being friggin' awesome." A blink. She smiled fuzzily. "In the eggheaded way of doing things."
"Think about it, bucko." Logan gestured. "You're getting a fresh pair of eyes from this deal."
"If you ask me..." Rainbow leaned in even further to murmur in the wyvern's ear. "...you should hold back your awesomeness. Just a tad. Improve their fuel-burning methods... but leave them wanting. That way, we can milk these greedy metal-huffers for more later if the opportunity arises."
Kepler grimaced. "That sounds horrribly unethical and manipulative...!"
"Also greedy, profitable, and insidious... just like these guys." Rainbow leaned back with a cute smirk. "See? We're speaking their language! We'll be like ambassadors!"
"Ha-hah!" Kepler couldn't help but produce a tusk'd smile. "As always, you arre everr convincing in yourr spontaneous charrisma, Rrainbow One. No wonderr the powerrs that be grranted you with the powerr and grrace of Austrraeoh."
"You're not half-snazzy yourself, there, bud." Rainbow slapped his shoulder. "Now, first and foremost, use your smarty-smart-smart-smarts to get these imps to fashion you the right kind of lenses," she said. "We're plot-deep in the Dark Side and I doubt there'll be anything close to an optometrist in another million clicks."
"I shall endeavorr to solve both my eyes and the Smelt-Blooderrs' dilemma with poise and accurracy," Kepler said in an eloquent tone as he sat up to the work bench. "Might I add that I grreatly apprreciate the patience that you and the rrest of the Herrald have shown in tolerrating my handicap as of late."
"Dude... I rolled with a blind zebra for—like—a gazillion miles." Rainbow patted his shoulder again. "Trust me. You're a fuzzy walk in the park."
"Ach. That's a cold and trreacherrous parrk rripe with chaos monsterrs."
"Just get to work, ya yammering space walrus," Logan said. He walked Rainbow Dash towards the other side of the foundry, speaking in close proximity. "Sooooooo... suppose he can't figure out how to fix their fuel-intake-smex. What do we do then?"
"Keps will fix it, dude," Rainbow's voice cracked. "Don't worry."
"But... supposing he doesn't."
Rainbow shrugged. "We wait for the Dihmer boat to get here. We win them over with Wildcard's juggling act." She yawned. "Something something explosions..."
Logan frowned. "Are you being serious or just tired."
"Meh..." Rainbow teetered. "Can I take the physical challenge?"
"Think you're even capable of sleep at this point?"
"Mrmmff..." Rainbow rubbed her fuzzy eyelids, blinking crookedly. "Even if I do... I-I'm not sure how to deal with what I find."
"No pressure or nothing... but you're our only connection with those batty batty bat psychos at this point."
"You're saying that I should just... stay awake forever?" Rainbow grumbled. "So that way they won't track me?"
"Of course not, girl." Logan sighed. "But it might help you to meditate and get in the right head-space so that way you'll be on the level once you do finally konk out."
"I'm not sure how easy that'll be at this point," Rainbow Dash slurred. "Between the pounding of the ocean and the nightmare noise of this friggin' place... I might as well just stay a zombie."
"You can't lurch into the Midnight Armory."
"Not without the shards of Endrax, at least."
Logan nodded, exhaling, "Well... if Kepler does indeed fix things around here, then that means we've just secured ourself an out."
"Buh?"
"I'm talking about the Blob. We can make our way across it finally."
"That's assuming the Dihmers will allow us penumbral 'failures' on board."
"I'm not talking the Dihmers, I'm talking about the goblins! From the sound of it, they ferry stuff to and from Petra all the time."
"I'm... not sure if I'm down with becoming shipmates with these dudes yet," Rainbow Dash said.
"Why not?" Logan smirked slightly. "Any of us could easily punt these sissy-marmots across half the curve!"
Rainbow merely glared at him.
"Right... right..." Logan rolled his eyes. "You've already dealt with their kind before. I should know better than to trivialize that."
"It's complicated..." Rainbow stirred in place, staring at the bustling imps as they worked all around the vaporously hot foundry. "...somepony I care about very deeply—a pony I left behind far back—chose to stay in one place and look after a bunch of these creatures." She gulped. "I didn't feel it at first... but I've got an eerie feeling crawling up my soul-spine... self... thingy... meh."
"Well..." Logan patted her side. "Go out for a walk, then. Get your mind off the imps and I'll look after things here."
"Thanks, Big Show..." Rainbow Dash limped on. "You're a real prize, you know that?"
"That's what love means, y'know." He winked after her. "Getting used to smelling another one's farts!"
"Thanks Big Show... ... ..."
"Don't mention it." As Rainbow Dash walked away, Logan became aware of a light-brown figure standing in a slump to his side. He looked over, eyes narrowing. "Hey there, baldy. Holding down the fort?"
"... ... ..." Flynn stood silent, gazing intently at the large open doors to the black metal docks extending towards the ocean.
Logan arched an eyebrow. "Hey! One-eyed-willy!"
"... ... ...?" Flynn finally tilted his head towards him. "Hmmm?"
"Everything okay, belch-nugget?" Logan blinked. "You looked like you've seen a ghost. I thought that was the Austraeoh's job."
"I... I..." Flynn shivered in place. He gazed out the doors again. "I don't know what I've seen."
"Hrmmmfff..." Logan shrugged and marched past him. "Better clean out the nerd-smegma from your lens, bro. We'll need your cyclopticness for the journey to come."
"Right..." Flynn nodded breathily, staring into the soot-stained twilight with a worried expression. "Right on..."
50(?) chapters left! Edit 1: Boy I’m so hyped to see how this book will end. And we haven’t reach the major conflict yet! I don’t know but I feel this is going to get very good, and these next chapters will determine that.
Edit 2: Flynn is still worried about that Dihmer’s behaviour. Not gonna help if he doesn’t tell the others. Perhaps the changelings didn’t take all the emotions from some dihmers.
What are cows?
I know a Dihmer showing emotion is strange but it shouldn't be that worrying to Flynn. I mean they had to have it at some point and it's not completely crazy that some of them actually have a hard time suppressing it, or can't due to age or biology.
8890049
too slow!
C-C-Combo breaker!
Also Dash knows cows, there's a whole bunch back in Equestria.
8890057 OR they're a changeling.
8890057
Except, from what we understand, as far as we know they biologically CAN'T express emotions anymore. They were Fed on by changelings for THOUSANDS of years. That alone will fuck with their emotional chemistry each generation. Then purposely living like that for years and years? If they are anything like Primitive humans, then as soon as a baby or child started showing any emotions, or anything out of the ordinary, they would kill the baby/child/person immediately as it puts them as a whole at risk of being found and killed/controlled by the changelings once more. They were never found BECAUSE the Changelings can't feed on them anymore. If a few started having emotions again, the others would quickly kill them for survival.
8890073
True they could be a changeling but why hang out with ponies you can't feed off of? Why not be a goblin instead?
8890085
Mutations happen, it could only affect less than 1% of them. Just because they were willing to sacrifice an injured member to get away from the worm doesn't mean they would kill a baby. Remember the one being sacrificed did it willingly as well. Who knows though maybe it is a changeling or there is another explanation
Dash, I've seen all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, including Freddy vs Jason. Trust me, the "stay awake" thing never works. Although you'd make a pretty awesome Dream Warrior.
Logan, don't underestimate goblins. That's literally begging for a crescent wrench to the nads.
Oh bloody hells Flynn, its not that hard to wrap your head around. Aren't you supposed to be the smart one? *thinks of Kepler* The other smart one. *thinks of Twilight* The other, other smart one? Just add two and two, dude. Dihmer's suppress emotion, and you haven't seen any real young ones yet, now you've seen a Dihmer show emotion. Ergo... Dihmer who hasn't yet learned to suppress her emotions fully yet.
Or a changeling. One or the other.
And why are you not telling anyone else about this yet? Bah, anyways...
Seraphims x Logan Ship Confirmation Chapter Counter: 58
8890036
I... don’t know about that. IC has never said that we’re shooting for 300 here. In fact, he said that Ofolrodi is going to be about the same length as Utaan word-count-wise, which would put the chapter count around 800 at the pace we’re going. I wouldn’t be surprised if we reach the Midnight Armory by the end of the book, honestly.
8890104
Well, if that happens, this would be the first book in the series to surpass the 300 chapter count. Either way, I’m really excited to see how this ends! It would be great if they reach the Midnight Armory in the same book.
8890129
Me too! And I have a feeling they will — Ofolrodi’s description references Rainbow reaching the Armory:
Utaan’s description said Rainbow would reach the edge of the world, and it was right. It only makes sense that this one would be the same.
Kepler was way too easy to placate there, I feel.
They're going to get to Petra and see statues of Roarke I bet.
-Through the path long forgotten, into the darkness long begotten. Ofolrodi.
Does Rainbow ever smile non-fuzzily?
That is concerning.
(Short Skirts And?)
8890172
Jaynestown moment.
"We gotta go to the crappy town where I'm a hero."
Regrouping for the next quest: Fix the damn machines.
God I miss Roarke. The rest of the Jury can fart about for all I care, but I miss Roarke
Whats got Flynn worried?
8890317
I think Flynn's thinking of the Dihmer that actually showed some emotion by lashing out at him earlier.
The Dihmers aren't as dead inside as we thought.
The Dihmer actually spoke normally too, which was pretty strange.
8890330
Maybe its someone adopted into the dihmae?
8890104
8890129
Or IC is going straight for the 1k. We know that he can do it.
Meat on one side, Blob on teh other, high sulphur metal weakening Dedge Coal comes from scaveging dhimers or shipped in from Petra where they either dont know or someones creaming the good stuff?
Complex but possible to sweeten the sulphur or equivalent out using the trick that burning it out gives acid rain, but hitting fools gold with steam gives ore and sulphide gas,a nd mixing the sulphide and acid together gives water and the sulphur drops out, meaning the sulphur can go back in th sweetening cycle to ramp up throughput and then be easier to handle for other componds and dumping in blobby?
Flyynn is but prawn on barbie of life.
I must say, the more time we spend with Logan, the more his speech begins to grate on me.
Looks like the Herald needs to work on communication problems, as none of them are talking about potential problems to each other.
O.A.S.I.S. for Kepler when.
Dammit Flynn, you were supposed to stick with her. Do some investigating. SOMETHING. Why are you leaving something new alone?
It's been too long since Dash made a place she traveled through awesomer. Just 'cause this is the dark side doesn't mean she can't still do some good. Maybe the Dihmer island is going to involve really inhumane "training" of foals to make them all as unemotional as the adult Dihmers and Dash is gonna try to do something about it?
I don't understand why Flynn will also keep secrets.
8890284
Don't lie, you miss Propsy and Kera and Belle and Pilot and Floydien and Zaid and Eagle Eye and Ebon.
8897145
Wait a sec... You missed Josho.
Or maybe Logan is a better replacement...
More wolfsplosions plz.
8897145
I'm waiting for the inevitable Herald/Jury meetup.
Eh...Keps will think of something. If nothing else, there's Twi and Rarity to work off of.
Also, it's not a question of if, but when Rainbow makes contact with the bats again. It's going to happen. What it means for the ares is another thing.
Spit out out, nerdo. Shit's important.
9001905
If this happens the world might end from the sheer awesomeness.
I have at feeling this island is where all the young Dihmers are, if that’s where they breed.
Wait Flynn is brown? i thought he was blue this whole time.
10227344
I'd been imagining Zaid as blue instead of brown, and Bard as brown instead of blue. Boy I am bad at this
Team Dad Logan with his valuable life advice.
I mean, Pilate had OASIS so he wasn’t completely handicapped all the time. Except when when almost died and met Floydien, and in Stratopolis, and Khao’s herald…
Okay so maybe Kepler is slightly lower maintenance…
But only slightly!
